Tuohy at Carlton vs Geelong

OP arguing with and insulting other posters on our board because he's adamant that Tuohy is a far superior player at Geelong and was only a 'fringe player' at Carlton while most of us think he's about the same, he's just playing in a better side now which makes it easier. Goes and starts a thread on main board hoping to see people agree with him.

Includes this in his OP: "Obv Carlton posters want to dismiss any other supporters advice as biased and trolling but there must be some posters out there that can put a decent sentence together explaining a fair opinion."

Yet most of the responses here have again said he's about the same but is playing in a better team which explains his slightly better play/stats.

Cmon OP, face up and admit most people, even non-Carlton posters, don't agree with you.

Yeah I would agree with most Carlton fans. I think Geelong won the trade but Carlton are well stocked for HBFs. He's improved mainly because he plays in a better side which allows him to be more aggressive in his game style and his mistakes can be fixed by his teammates. Most HBFs would perform better in a better team. Heck, most players in general would.

Didn't Carlton lowball him with their contract offer? I thought it a strange move as Simpson, Murphy, Gibbs & Kreuzer were the only more experienced staples on the list (plus Armfield and Thomas whose futures were uncertain).

With Gibbs now gone, Docherty sidelined and Simpson about to tick over 34, playing a more attacking style via reliable run from the backline looms as a challenge for Carlton.
We have plenty of options down back, having a player who is a naturally attacking play as a stopper due to having Simpson and Docherty isn't great, we had holes everywhere and a small/med def is one place we had enough of.

We have plenty of talent (some unproven) in def, it will still be one of our strengths.

Tuohy was one of the few that had currency and the offer he received from us......was, well....it wasn't a real offer.
I don't know this as fact but I'd say that the seeds between Carlton & Geelong were sewn pretty in 2016 in regards to a Tuohy trade.

There are some Carlton posters who say that the deal was a bad one for us, but it really wasn't.
GWS wouldn't have accepted our second rounder, but took the chance on Geelongs 2017 first. The fact that there wasn't much difference between the two is a moot pint. The deal had to be done.
Some Carlton supporters also forget that Carlton gained a future second rounder in that Marchbank/Pickett deal that through then doing a favour to hawthorn, turned into Macreadie, Williamson & Kerr. Pretty happy with that.

Docherty going down is going to hurt and something that wouldn't have been budgeted for, but don't be surprised to see Garlett deployed in the backline.
I'm not too worried about our back-line for 2018. It won't be an issue.
Note also that Ciaran Byrne was seen to be much the better player going forward, although he's had his fair share of injuries unfortunately.

It is spelt Toohey. And you can only get it at the SCG

Dude I was talking to over here the other day reminded me of the ol' 30 cube. I'd completely forgotten it existed...(does it still?!?!?)

He was actually nostalgic for them...it was all he could afford when he was a backpacker in Sydney.

Classic.

I like his dare and decision making off half back. Not sure he is playing any better at Geelong may be more consistent (which comes with maturity)

Who did blues get from the draft with the first round trade?

Blues gave up pickett and their 2017 r2 for marchbank and pickett which isnt too bad.

We gave up pick 15 for tuohy and 22 (fogarty) but we probably would have picked fogarty at 15 anyway as we rated him quite highly.

What about Lachie Henderson? Is he better at the cats?

Would like him to be a bit more durable but when he plays he is very good. His worth will be seen this year with Lonergan retired.

Has improved out of sight at Geelong. Good player consider we got Caddy for pick 24 and a third round pick upgrade that we got Jack Graham for. If it wasn’t for Tuohy it probably wouldn’t have happened.

You would have got Jack Graham anyway, not sure why you would include him.

Caddy is OK, would take Tuohy ahead of him all day long though.

Tuohy was an excellent player in a poor team at Carlton, which is why Geelong was willing to include a first rounder to get him across (albeit the deal as a whole was a steal for us).

As others have said, he’s basically been in a top 4 team his whole time with us and played his whole Geelong career alongside the likes Dangerfield, Selwood, Duncan etc.

He may not necessarily improved as a player as his strengths were clear at Carlton, but all players look good in a better team and better system.

I couldn’t be happier to have him at Geelong, always liked him at the Blues and absolutely love his toughness and thumping kick. Seems like a great guy too which only helps for locker room cohesion etc.

SOS was super keen on Marchbank and GWS were demanding a first.

Tuohy also wasn't in the right age bracket for the rebuild and SOS was trying to cut salaries.

Geelong definitely in the right place at the right time getting a very solid player for a 5 or 6 pick downgrade on reasonable salary, big winners.

Looking at the output of Marchbank and due to injuries Carlton would have been better off just keeping Touhy for culture purposes.

Bump.

This bloke deserves a heap more respect than he gets.
He ain't no novelty.
Skilled, tough, resilient, smart.

Super talent and player who deserves a sh*t load of respect.

Outstanding and hats off. What a good value deal Geelong got here.
Only behind Stynes as the best Irish AFL player.

Im assuming you’re talking about Kenneally? Debatable who’s been the better player
No my plan was to post the video of Michael Quinn running into an open goal in the 09 elimination final against the Crows and tripping over his own feet.

Can't find it though. :(

Helped Mark O'conner choose Geelong?
Wouldn't be shocked if O'Conner was a 200 gamer one day.

He's a small defensive liability IMO but if you can protect him from a bad matchup then his kicking can be a real weapon. Geelong has actually traded quite well recently with Touhy one of a number of traded in players that play an important role in the side. Hard to say how much of it is elevating there game though, and how much of it is about targeting players to fill a hole.
