Lol in what world do we move up as early as next year. We have no midfield, and barely a forward line anymore. Norf of all teams carved us up.

More likely to be bottom 4 than top 4 for the next 5 years.

Yeah I do not see it that way. It is never as bad as it seems and I have belief in the youngsters and others to enable a real rebound

It is not like we have not had injuries and do not have the artillery behind the scenes to create a catalyst

We don't though. Name our starting midfield and rotations for next year. Name a key forward who looks like being able to take over from reiwoldt. Lynch barely plays and when he does most the time he's pretty average, and Bolton is the only small forward we have of any worth.

I think we have to start considering trading a couple of decent players like a Rioli (I know he’s been great) but we really need to restart our next generation of midfielders…it’s worryingly bare. It worked with Deledio and helped us bring in Prestia, caddy and nank. Just have to make those tough decisions sometimes
Think we'll be right if we trade in a starting mid this year and draft one or two more. A pre season in the midfield for Short and maybe Baker would be a huge help for them too. Sonsie should be a starter next season. I don't think we should be trading away any best 22 players.

Prestia, Sonsie, Short, Hopper? Bolton, Dusty, Cotchin should be able to contend at the very least with most midfields on paper. I reckon we need a gun midfield stoppage coach. We've been poor in this area for years and it's a huge area of growth opportunity.

Plus we should be in the position to get a decent free agent next year when all of Cotchin, Jack, Edwards, Lambert, Caddy, Castagna, Aarts have moved on.

We are the second best centre clearance team in the league behind only the dogs, we are dead last in around the ground clearances. The issue isn't so much the personnel, it's the way we play and have played right throughout our success. We play a spare in the backline and prefer to win the ball cleanly there and rebound then win a dirty stoppage.

Our two best clearance players (Martin/Bolton) spend more time forward then they do playing midfield as there ability to win 1 on 1 or 1 on 2 opens up the game far more then what would with 10 players around the ball from a boundary throw in.

That's not to say we don't need reinforcements in midfield which we certainly do and I think Hopper would be best option for us but even with the addition of a player like Hopper, the clearance issues around the ground won't change all that much. But his bigger body would help in terms of limiting any influence the opposition has from each contest.

Lol, the cats had young players of the quality of Hawkins, Taylor, selwood and Duncan on their list in 2011 which helped bridge the gap and keep them at the top when their stars retired. We don't have anything like that.
We have Gibcus, Sonsie, Bolton, Baker, Balta etc. It's do able with good list management, coaching and culture. We have two of those things.

Agree with that. Chris Scott has shown this year that gameplans and sytems can be tweaked to re emerge with the contenders without radical list changes.
Only between March & August.
They'll win it this year.

Why would I have to name a forward to take over from JR and Lynch??

Why would JR and Lynch go anywhere??

As for he mids, the youngsters will have to get more involved. If we drop away we should be playing more youngsters at the end of this season like Sonsie to prep us for a better tilt at 2023

Gibcus looked interesting in the ruck. He seems to move like a utility so where he can play is anyones guess. Biggy looked effective to a degree in the ruck as well. The ease with which Gibcus straightish kick to the point post was impressive. I think Gibcus is a little more than just a backman.

I am liking the look of Banks in the twos and all our draftees from last year have shown a bit and have to improve, its just a question of how much and how far they can develop

Plenty of opportunity for improvement in 2023

I don't know if they will win it this year but personnel changes and a new style including Cameron up the ground has helped them fur sure. The might be closer to a pinch hit before they hit the wall. The umps can carry Duckwood for only so long

They've been pretty damn average for 7 weeks now bar Brisbane who are dog shit @ the G. They'll need to get motoring soon. Hopefully not though, can't stand the bastards.

If cats can maintain the rage they will shit it in. Hawkins and Jezza are too big a task for anyone with the form they're in.

Reiwoldt will be 35 and Lynch 30 with a badly failing body and tbh 3 years of average to sub par performances.

As for the young mids, what young mids? Were pinning our hopes on a first gamer in sonsie, Graham, and 2 kids who can't perform consistently in dow and Ross. There's literally noone else.

Our recruitment the last 5 years has been shocking for the most part. Partly because we've been good, but we have missed every decent pick we've had since 2017.

Lol who are jack Cotch Vlas grimes and dusty , a bowl of gold fish , silly comment . Our defence should pretty well remain intact next year which means we remain competitive , we re currently sec highest scoring side in the comp bet u didn’t know that , which has me scratching the head , htf we find ourselves in this position

Banks, RCD, Cotch has been okay this year. Dusty has been known to be handy at times. The world is not falling in yet. Brown should develop, where he ends up playing is debatable, looks pretty versatile. Ralphsmith will be better next year again, likewise Dow looking likely

we have the forward power, we just need the midfield strength and robust defence.

I actually think we are looking good for next year. Can't what for this year to end so I can load up, back the truck up, I am on!!

Yep I see em as firm fav too with us the only chance of beating them , fav don’t have a strong record though

Lol, 2 guys who have 1 year tops remaining with no obvious replacement, and a guy who might even just retire this year. Grines himself only has a couple years left.

Still being on the rcd train is just sad, and cotchin will be gone by the end of next year. And banks hasn't played a game yet.

Does baker want to be part of a rebuild away from home or at home?

Either way, Richmond and Eagles are about to lose a ton of veterans with little to no ready made replacements

Who are we losing this year that we will miss? Edwards? Not on this years form. Caddy? No. Lambert? Yes. Cotch and Jack will go around again.

Your too negative. RCD will come up trumps and Banks s looking good while Cotch is showing plenty of commenable fight. I was also on the Rance train when others where bagging him as he was developing
