Are we? I think the more likely answer is the Pies fans are still feeling insecure that Houston wanted to go to the Blues over them, so in turn the Pies fans are desperate to make it seem like we made the biggest mistake of all time taking a kid instead.

Don't reckon I've seen any Blues fans getting too carried away with Jagga, we're all happy with what he's shown but I've barely seen a post on here saying he's the second coming.

As for our future picks? As always, you've got no idea what you're talking about. We have 3 NGA kids coming through in 2025 so our 2nd rounder is likely just used for points matching.

I think if you took your Carlton blinkers off, did a bit more research, and maybe stopped taking everything Jon Ralph and Sam Edmund report as gospel, you'd find that Houston was pretty happy to go anywhere except for North Melbourne and Melbourne.

Oh so you're rebuilding on the run, but traded away your future picks by selling the farm for pick 3 because you have some NGAs coming in next year. Sounds very logical to me.

He would be absolutely insane if he did. He needs to set himself up post career, not slap ass with a bunch of friends.

He should stay til the bitter end and force a offer to be matched. Thats what the option is their for
He's going to get paid a fortune whether he stays or goes. Let's be real here too, players at Carlton, Collingwood, WCE, Geelong, Essendon etc are set up for life through other means post career.
I think you needed both.
I don't, if we were trading in an established player it would have been a KPD or a genuine gun small forward.

According to Cats ITK posters we put quite good deals in front of SDK and Kolo but both decided to stay.

Another quality Half back was just about the lowest priority we could have had imo.

If Essendon went 6 years 9 mill, what would you offer back ?

Set himself up post career? He's already ruled out coming to Geelong

Yeah... Totally 😂

“We had some open conversations, I have a good relationship with him [Voss], and I wanted to play for him, and he wanted to have me in the team,” Houston told 3AW.

“It didn't look throughout the whole time like the Blues could get the job done and it sort of chopped and changed a bit. In the end, it was the Pies."

Blues will be rebuilding on the run with Jagga and Cody Walker as the core of our midfield in the future. Think every one of our fans will be pretty ecstatic about that.

Think we'll pay him 1 mil a year and that will be all. Would be right in line with Curnow and Weitering etc adjusting for the salary increases.

That is of course, if he continues his late 2024 form through 2025 and is one of the best rucks in the comp at the end of the year.

That's cute. Even I could've grabbed a quote from anywhere and made it validate my point.

Yep, and by the time Jagga and Cody are in their prime. All of Weitering, Cripps, Curnow, McKay, Docherty, Newman, Hewett, and Saad will have likely retired.

Sure, but TDK will still be at the Blues at the peak of his powers along with others.

Less than what?

I'm saying if you think cripps is on 850k it will cost you more than that to retain tdk. 950-1mil is my guess.

Yes cripps might be worth more but the market is changing and there's a shortage of top end rucks and talls so tdk will cost more that's just how the market is.

I think he wants to stay so you'll keep him but it's fanciful to think he would take 800k the manager will advise against that.

Then off he goes.

He isn’t turning down millions cos he wants to shower with Patrick Cripps

It’s fanciful to think he will get the same offer Ben McKay got in free agency. He will get much more

They didn’t sell the farm at all. I’d much rather Jagga or Draper than pick 12 and 14. As for the future picks given Norf paid their F1 for pick 27 and Richmond’s F2, Carlton’s F1 and F2 for 14 turned out to be an absolute steal.

Cripps is the highest paid player on our list at around 1 mil before the salary increases. Curnow, McKay, Weitering and Walsh are on a bit below that.

Id assume all of them are on 1 million-ish now adjusting for the increases. TDK would be on the same if he sticks around.

Brian Cook laid it out fairly clearly in a few of his interviews, nobody gets paid more than the Captain while he's at the club.

Both fair points, guess we'll see how it plays out. Also have to think, if Carlton can match an offer... Who's actually paying the draft picks he'd cost in a trade? Can't see anyone stumping up that steep of a price.

That North trade was stupid, but the Blues still paid overs for pick 3.

It’s interesting that you share that opinion considering your mob got compensated handsomely for pick 3.

I think the draft just gone has clouded a lot of people’s expectations. In any other draft, paying a F1 & F2 for 14 is overs. Then doubling down and trading 12 and 14 for 3 is pretty risky. If Collingwood did that and missed out on Houston, I’d be pretty pissed.

Pies and Blues are in very different positions list wise. You're desperately trying to squeeze out 1 more good season from a bunch of likely retirees at the end of the year.

Blues have time on their side with a younger list and less of a need for half back flankers.

Jagga fit our needs to a tee for 2025 and going forward. Was a great move by our list team if he ends up the player they'd be hoping.

If Crippa is on 850k I'll eat my hat.

I'll have to go buy a hat. Then I'll eat that

Yeah but it’s not a dick measuring competition to see who can get the best 18 year old. The aim of the game is to win a premiership.

Your list may be “young” but looking at your top ten B&F results, I don't see many 25 and under.

TDK, Walsh, Cerra, Jagga, Walker.

More than happy to be building around that midfield post Cripps and co

There you go overrating Jagga. Just let him debut first.
