He's not playing the Shaw role at all!

He's basically a defensive midfielder, coming in off CHB and loitering somewhere across that line. Still heavily reliant on winning the ball in intence traffic.

Heath is a last line interceptor. Doesn't operate under the same degree of pressure.

Either way, disposal eficiency is a joke of a stat anyway, so not worth bothering with.

This. It isn't a move that I really like myself because his skill level against the better teams will be more of a hinderance than a help, but he's adequate in the role because he wins ground level one on one's.

Fingers crossed we can raid GWS at years end for one of Wilson or Williams to be the real long term solution to the Shaw sized hole we have in the back half.
Can't we just get Shaw back!

I think Taylor is currently playing what Pendles played in the first two rounds, defensive mids, behind the ball and lead the backline.
Pendles is too slow to play like that and we miss his quality in the centre.
However, Taylor is quick enough to play well in defense and he show leadership there for a very young backline.
I still remember when we play WB two years ago, Taylor marked the ball on the wing and looked around, then turnover the footy. He has significantly improved since then, I believe he will be a wonderful servant for the club

Geez, it's emo central around here. Anyone need a cuddle?

Not really that funny when the actual Heath Shaw got 38 disposals at 97% efficiency.

Adams is a promising young player but we are badly behind in that trade to date.

Our only hope to break even is that Shaw retires first and Adams is still playing good footy for another 5 years.
Heath Shaw is playing phenomenal football, so good luck to him and GWS for that. Taylor Adams is improving all the time and looks like being a wonderful long-term player for us.

Adams is still only 22 (23 in September), Shaw is 30 (31 in November), so they're basically 8 years apart age-wise. I'm totally confident we'll still have Adams playing very well for us long after Heath has retired.

Unless Shaw can play elite footy until 35 then otherwise we are better off with Adams. No point having an all Australian when we are missing finals. Adams' peak will coincide with the rest of the team.

Also on the subject of rebuild, I think a lot on here are short sighted. Our rebuild is coming along nicely but we need to be patient. We laud sides like the western bulldogs but their rebuild was longer and more painful than most of us care to remember (including myself).

Last 6 years finishing position:

Year WB Coll
2010. 4th 1st
2011. 10th 2nd
2012. 15th 4th
2013. 15th 6th
2014. 14th 11th
2015. 6th 12th

They started their rebuild end of 2011. We started end of 2012. I'd say we are doing pretty well. Every year we have competed to play finals and the last two years we have come up short. It's not like we have stayed on the bottom of the ladder getting smashed every week.

Heater just played the best game ever from a running defender! I think some slack is in order for wanting a premiership player back that shouldn't have been dealt with the way he was.

I was having a bit of a laugh, given that he's not coming back. I miss him too, but it's done and dusted.

Maybe I should get a tattoo over my heart of a koi with "Heaf" across its side. Light a candle for him every time GWS plays.

This is just a matter of opinion and is going over old ground, but you raised it so I'll respond.

Heater was dealt with appropriately

I'm also happy with the deal. It was win/win for me, even though he was always likely to play really well up there out of the Collingwood fishbowl, just as Rhyce did. That's the thing... I think leaving was good for him, just as it was for Rhyce.

That's enough from me though, I'll leave you guys to imagine what coodabeen.

I think your opinion may change if you find out why he was dealt with the way he was. Then the tattoo will be full chest not just over your heart :)

I'm not unhappy with the deal because Adams is a quality player. Right from the get go my displeasure is that we had to give quality to get quality when for me the right decision was to give the shot at quality instead (mainly pick 10).

On to the thread at hand Adams again provided stability in the back third, but burned it at times (that kick into the corridor in the last was horrendous). He teases in that role and is literally a 10% increase in skill level from being extremely valuable in the role I just don't think we'll see it.

What I saw in the public eye was enough for me to want him to move on. There may have been other reasons for the trade, and he may have had mitigating factors regarding his behaviour. But I can only deal with what I know. Speculation and little hints don't learn me good.

As for Adams, I keep hearimg about his leadership around the club and onfield, which is great. I'm hoping that his current position is just a part of his development (and it appears to be). His disposal doesn't quite lend itself to the role, even though I think he seems to do quite well in other aspects (it's sometimes hard to judge from the TV coverage). Ultimately I'd like him in the guts full time.

Oh please give it a rest FFS, chances are he wouldn't be playing quite that well for us now, wouldn't be making us premiership contenders by merely playing for us and would most likely not have gotten the wake up call that has obviously restarted his career and form.

Adams will be with us probably winning B&Fs & AAs long after Shaw has retired, and won't be yelling at the coach, telling him what to do and talking to his undermining, bitter ex-coach every night bitching about said current coach. This Heath Shaw shit is reaching MM/Buckley proportions.
