He's probably going to end up being a Cam Rayner type if he makes it.

Hasn't shown the ability to accumulate yet, and the endurance struggles will probably hinder that for a while.

Might just never be his natural game either. Accumulation tends to be a trait that's inherent rather than developed.

Still though, if he can be that powerful forward matchup who spends 5 minutes in the midfield per-quarter, we'd probably take that.
I think accumulation and endurance are inherently related. You cant accumulate without high work rate covering ground and you can only achieve this with a good endurance.

The 25-30 disposal a game mid gets to alot of contests and good positions others dont

Pretty boring update this week:

The Round 5 GMHBA Health Update is in ahead of the Cats’ game at Gather Round against Adelaide on Thursday night.

Mark Blicavs is set to return after he was a late withdrawal on Friday night with illness, while midfielder Mitch Knevitt has been cleared to play after missing the game against Melbourne with foot management.

As revealed yesterday, defender Jack Henry is set to miss the next three to four weeks with a right hamstring strain.

I wonder what does "management" mean for Jack Martin?

When he was a late withdrawl from the VFL the other week they mentioned it was due to calf soreness experienced in the warm-up

Then this was the update from a couple of weeks back ahead of our clash with Brisbane:

“He’s quite away from AFL selection,” Scott said. “And we’ll just be thoughtful around when he plays versus when he trains.

“And hold me to it; we’ll be as transparent as we can possibly be around his return. But if you ask next week, it’ll likely be, “No. It’s the status quo”.

“We’re still sort of thinking about his preparation. But there’ll come a point in time where we’ll say, “OK. Now it is about performance”.

I think with Martin & management, it's likely about trying to build him up over a period of time to try and see if they can get him "bullet proof" as that increase his training loads

So it's not necessarily a single issue keeping him out but they are working on an overall conditioning plan

Achilles.

Be a minor miracle to see him again.
I wonder when we'll just bite the bullet and get the MSD pick.

A guy like Kreuger is unlikely to make or break a season...but he's got more chance of adding something in 2025 than Guthrie at the moment.

He's been a champ, and if these last couple of years are just topping up his super, then so be it. He's earned that.

That still doesn't take away from how much of a charade this feels like though.

We've essentially got two useless list spots right now for completely different reasons.

Surely they're making their moves behind the scenes?

We're down two players, and need to compensate.

Could have sworn Kolo was 1-2 weeks away 3 weeks ago.

Don't ask me where, but I read today he's somewhat stalled with his recovery - sounds like when they've been trying to ramp up his training that he's been somewhat hitting a hurdle without being able to get over it

So it's not like a month ago they thought he'd be a month+ away, but he's not progressing as they had hoped - though once he does take that next step, then we'll be seeing him back out there

It could also be though that with no VFL this week, they're opted to hold him back another week in the hope of him being able to get a run in the legs next week

Tendons are notoriously slow at recovering. Less blood flow usually results in a slower rehab. Repeat tendon tears just adds more layers of complexity ontop of it.

I think they are really being cautious because this is probably his last shot to get it right. If he tears it again that’s probably career over

We’re talking about Kolodjashnij who is recovering from a groin issue

You'd hope so.

Dom Brew and Kreuger for instance, are they going to impact results heavily if they get a shot? Probably not.

With that being said, we've got two guys right now where we KNOW they're not going to impact at all this year.

The devil we don't know here, is better than the one we do.

With the class of '24 (bar Polk and PR) all out of action too, we could do much worse than picking up some solid depth.

If they suck, then just let them go at the end of the year. That's the whole point of it really.

With our track record of drafting mature aged players, I would absolutely back us in to nab a gem again.

History is on their side

I hope Neale is alright. He looked very proppy in the rooms after the game. Had ice around the foot. He didn't look good last week either. Should he have been risked?

Maybe some lingering effects from when he hurt his foot/ankle against Brisbane - the key question to ask, 'Is he playing injured, or is he playing sore?'

I'm not suggesting playing sore is ideal, but it's something players kinda have to get used to as they'll pick up the odd knock which can leave you not 100%, but playing on wouldn't be expected to do further damage. Playing injured is different and we'd be stupid if we're doing that

One thing noticeable about Neale's game tonight is that he really did step into the #2 ruck role, when he's really been seen more as a tall forward who can pinch hit in the ruck if needed until the past fortnight. We got a bit of a taste of that last week when he took 17 ruck contests & 4 CBAs, tonight that increased to 27 & 7 respectively

SDK took a solitary ruck contest tonight after taking "just" 6 last week - all in the first half, most likely before Henry was subbed out

While we're without Henry & Kolodjashnij, I think we'll continue to see Neale play as our second ruck, splitting his time between the forward line & ruck duties as that will allow us to leave SDK & Blicavs behind the ball for now

With this slight adjustment to his role, it'll hopefully help Neale work into games if he's not having an easy time of it up forward, but it may also see him a bit more sore from being banged into in ruck contests
