So much for he was perfectly fit for weeks and left out on purpose.
Juts goes to show so much of the rubbish we read about in the press about footballers is speculative made up crap. SDK's knee genuinely not being 100% isn't a sexy headline, but "Disgruntled premiership star exploring opportunities after being overlooked" is.

In regards to SDK, I wasn't completely surprised if he was to have further surgery after the season - this is how it was reported at the time:

“Sam has been managing a knee injury, more particularly with his patella. He has had a minor procedure today and we expect him to miss one-to-two weeks," Johnson said.

“It is unfortunate for Sam, but he is ready to tackle his rebab head on. We look forward to seeing him back in the coming weeks.”

My interpretation of that is that the minor procedure was to get him through the season and to be available for finals if he was available, but there may have been more to come once the season was over the address the full issue
