I think the voting getting worse over the years has a direct relationship to the number of field umpires on the ground!

What is the reason we have four field umpires now???

Games are now too fast for umps keep up. One ump can only see part of the action.

More umps probably gives us better voting to be honest. The problem lies elsewhere.

Well deserved.

I thought at times during the year, it looked as if it was a man playing against boys.

A great player and the only knock is his lack of goals. If he had that in the repertoire, Cripps would be in the same discussion as some of the best midfielders we have ever seen.

Look at the differences when posters vote for our top 5 every week. Imagine if it was only for 3 players, and from both teams! It would be all over the place as it is subjective. It is a tough task for the umpires on top of a pressure job of running and umpiring for 2 hours. Why would an ‘expert’ panel do much better?

Anyway, after 100 years of the Brownlow being decided by umpires, the AFL won’t change it.

The umpires don’t have a feel for the game. Their egos get in the way..
I’d much prefer a proper panel that relying on donkeys.
They’ve been useless all year and Cripps topping 45 votes is just laughable.

2/ they obviously made him change the lyrics.

He's playing at the sound doctor (Anglesea) on sept 26
He usually plays solo for an hour.

A panel of 4 at each of the 9 games? Think of the cost and the massive differences of approach between each panel.
Or one panel watching 18 hours of video every week?

And further to that.
For anyone that saw the oils in Geelong in circa 21' Dan played 45 minutes as support.
And he spoke about how his life was stuffed and that when he hit the bottom of the barrel that he saw who his true friends were. Because most of them walked away from him.

He then played for the oils and garret let him play electric guitar and sing beds.
Still the best rendition I've ever heard.

The guy has dragged himself off the floor. And a lot of his lyrics point to that.

Which highlights how bad the umpires call it than anything else.
Wasn't named in the best according to the AFL, Gulden, Warner and Heeney were clearly the best 3 players on the ground.
Sure he kicked 4, all of them in the last 25 minutes of the game AFTER the Swans had the game on their terms, and the lead.
Just another bullshit vote.

Didn't watch it at all. Not shocked Cripps won but the highest vote tally ever......after the other year I'd be checking betting accounts for people on the Cripps overs.

I don't get this narrative that allowing umpires access to statistics is going to help make the count more accurate. If anything it will just exacerbate the disproportionate bias towards midfielders. If an umpire lacks an accurate subjective sense of who were the best three players on the ground were, telling them to go to the stats sheet is just going to get them looking at the highest disposal winners (ie midfielders)
