I'm really happy for Marshall and hope he goes well. End of the day, perhaps it's time to try something new in the ruck.

But could someone explain to me how Hickey isn't even an emergency? If Marshall gets injured in the warm-up then we bring in Gilbert? Just seems odd, like we're taking the piss out of Hickey or something.

The perception with Hickey is that he lacks heart & fight & quickly drops his head. You cannot have a player like this as your ruckman. A ruckman is the biggest bloke in your team that says cmon follow me into war. Longer, for all his flaws, is tough & has fight in him, hence why he’s been backed in. Hickey lacks fight, can easily be dominated, & lacks the mental toughness to overcome it.

Our ruckman rankings:

1. Longer
2. Marshall
3. Lonie
4. Hickey

gee i feel for Bailey Rice ... from reports he has been going great in the VFL and he still isnt up for consideration as an emergancy ...

Another ordinary pick up. You can tell he just doesn’t have the right skills to be an afl footballer but is prefect for vfl. And I don’t mean kicking skills

I’m the opposite Richo has already conceded the game if he’s hoping three guys with 2 games experience between them is better than what we had in. It doesn’t do much for a player to drop them in the deep end against a top side. I think it’s a worry and won’t help their long term development unless somehow we just catch the Crows napping. The likelihood of that gapping is about 3000 to 1 unfortunately.
Completely get that point of view, my stand point is Marshall and Coffield should’ve been playing since week 1, so in my eyes I see us basically starting with what we should’ve from the get go.

I don’t agree with steele and Clark being dropped, both played out of position for most of the first two games but then who do you drop? Tricky situation you very well could be right. Just how I see it I guess.

Funny that he wasn’t like that when he was confident of being our first ruck. Disgusting man management

Who does he lodge out of the back line he is not ahead of Brown,Carlisle,Geary,Robbo or Savage maybe the only one is Webster but i doubt it, also with White & Coffield he has competition.

I think we need to realise that we're never going to be an amazing contested ball team so we might as well just try to keep contested ball even and win with skill. I mean for the love of god Billings, Gresh, Ross, White, Coffield, Sinclair, Savage, the list goes on of players we've brought in over the past few years that could all use the ball. It was meant to be a key focus during the rebuild but you wouldn't know it if you watched us the past 18 months or so.

Still think we've got forward line issues. If we can't lock it in there for long periods the Crows will run rings around us.

Get slaughtered in the midfield... bring in more half back flankers
Actually we brought in 2 elite kicks. Which fixes the biggest issue from last week.

Setting up play when we win the ball. If coffield and white can be effective in retaining possession and slingshotting us forward then it doesnt matter if we lose the clearance. I like both those selections.

Dunstan for me, if he can replicate his back end form of last year on a consistent basis has the potential to be one of our best mids in a cunnington like mould.

Marshall will have been selected for his contest and mobility. Huge ask however. Really hope he stands up because this is a huge opportunity. Could be the making of him.

We can win this game. It's on our home deck. I just don't feel confident on which stkilda turns up anymore.

Surely you can’t rate Marshall if your reason longer was better than hickey was hit outs. We know Marshall will get smashed there. Hopefully richo has realised how overrated hit outs are.

I rated Longer as last season and in 2015 he gave us first use of the ball and was strong with his pressure work in the centre. He also gave us a contest which is more then Hickey gave at any point during last years home and away games.

Marshall I'm not expecting to get close to Jacobs for hit outs. But he has to ensure the red carpet isn't rolled out for their mids and really hurt the crows with spread. This is the big question mark. Saturday night could be the making of the kid or it could be Hickey time in round 4/5

no one thats the point .. thats why i feel for him cause he is pretty much stuck... i wonder if he has regret at choosing us over the blues (although he would have a similar issue there)

Fair enough. We will never agree what is the most important thing for a ruckman. The one thing I do know is the best get all parts of their game right and that is why we have poor ruckman.

i get what you are saying but the same has been said about many players who have once given their shot lifted to another level ...

triggering bro let me predict your thoughts for the game...

McCartin 12 goals straight and a knock-out of Daniel Talia
Billings 35 touches 4 goals
Acres 42 and 3

Saints by 157 points.
