I see Billings on the bench. Am interested to watch him tonight as a Saints fan. I was one that was disappointed with the trade… Sub or do ppl think he starts?

Good luck tonight lads and ladies! I've had a name change over the off season. I was The Phresh One, but that was a high school nickname some battler gave to me. Bald is far more appropriate now. Not sure why I felt the need to tell you that.

Hopefully Schache kicks 8 this week and 0 next.

Nathan Eagleton is that you?

Hopefully he kicks 8 this week then gets dropped for Ben Brown.

Well I for one am pleased to see Josh Schache in the starting line up.

If Melbourne win this by 50 points, I won't be surprised.
If they lose by that margin, I won't be surprised.

A nervy start to the footy year.

Here for random meaningless stats, let me point out our record in being the season opener (The first game of the year before any other game)

1996 Friday Vs Geelong, lost by 127
1997 Thursday Vs North Melbourne Won by 15
2000 Wednesday Vs Richmond Lost by 2
2007 Friday Vs St Kilda Lost by 31
2022 Wednesday Vs Western Bulldogs Won by 26

I remember going to 1996 and 97. 97 is a great example of not reading too much into the opening round. We won the first game against the reigning Premiers then went on to lose the next 10 or whatever it was. Opposite in 04 lost to hawthorn then won the next 6, hawthorn lost the next six or something like that. We didn't just lose to hawthorn it was a bad loss. Pretty sure Shwab said hawthorn are going to win the premiership that year.

This stat is BT worthy

MAKE SOME NOISE :megaphone:, because the DEES are back for another wonderful, wonderful season.

The off-season came and went without a hitch, and now we're up against our biggest and longest rivals: the Sydney Swans. I don't mean "longest" in a literal length measurement sense, of course - though some swans can be lengthy!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :laughv1:

The Sydney Swans will be without several important cogs, including Luke Parker, Callum Mills, and the newly acquired Taylor Adams. But they will be WITH our dear friends Brodie Grundy and James 'Johnson Jigglesworth' Jordon. Personally - and this is me speaking personally now - I hope they collectively accrue 85 disposals, but LOSE the game to their more demonic opponents.

On our side of the fence, we have three club debutants, including two league debutants: Caleb Windsor, Blake Howes, and Jack Billings. Windsor in particular impressed in our last practice game, whilst Howes has apparently been training strongly, and Billings has shown why we parted with a future 12th rounder of something to get them to the club.

This game is inexplicably being played on a Thursday night :madv1:, which means we have the opportunity to be on top of the ladder at the end of night one, or have our season written off instantly. It's a blessing and a curse.

In our two games last year, we WON - which is interesting because I swear we lost at least one of those games. I guess I'm thinking of the lost final the year prior.

Those games were both played on a Sunday, of course, so I guess we don't have a true indication of THURSDAY FORM. :roflv1: :roflv1: :roflv1:

At time of writing, teams haven't yet been announced, but I assume they will have been by the time this thread gets published - so either I'll add the named team to this thread at this time, or perhaps somebody else will!

Good luck, everybody. This Round Zero game is coming, whether you like it or not - all we can do is JUST.HOLD.ON.

Not zero... Round 'O'.

Round "opening" ;) :)
