Everyone thought we would be crushed, but mostly, we played well. It’s not possible to have kids or lack experience all the time in the mid. Gotta have some experience in there. More positive then not.
The whole midfield is experienced and slow that’s the problem. What we need is a mix say Hopper Ross and Sonsie interchanging with Taranto Lalor and Smith. Ross Sonsie and Smith are inexperienced but they are not kids anymore. They need to be given a chance.

Kamdyn McIntosh has played 194 games
Needs 6 to make 200. After round 11 we have the mid season draft nurse him to 200 then send him off after round 10.his 200th game against roos at the mcg
He then retire ala Shaun grigg
Play him as the sub then. Actually changed my mind, he’s got two premiership medals thats more than enough. Drop him.

a bit of a dilemma in the vfl if balta is back, blight fwd/ruck and bauer dropped

then our vfl fwd line is going to be faull/sims/bauer/fawcett and ryan/ohb rotating ruck/fwd/bench

that's assuming we're still "managing" colina

guessing we'd throw bauer to the back line since he can play there

or we just say **** it and play tall ball

And take Raso in the mid season draft pls

Considering Balta hasn't played any footy does anyone think we won't select him next week and then he plays 1 game in the VFL before the sentencing decision?
Wouldn’t be against it Coach…

Looks comfortable…9 clearances last week and hit the scoreboard today…?
“If you’re good enough, you’re tall enough…”

only problem is there is no vfl next week

I'd also drop Dow but we all know he's not going anywhere.
I actually didn't think it was the worst game I've seen Dow play by a long shot.
That said I still can't see him as a long term option.
First game I've seen live today. My take was our midfield is pretty trash, yeah no great surprise there, but in general we looked OK most of the match, we just lack polish, no surprise with a heap of kids and our trash midfield.
Our team defensive structures are a problem at the moment, again no surprise with so many kids. Teams just work through us with good ball movement, always manage to keep the ball moving opposed to us turning it over badly.
Just want to see improvement through the year and keep the kids rotating through the team and midfield to build up that experience.

Positives, is that our kids we drafted this year all shown signs they are gonna be good and all played well today and Seth Campbell and steely Green, banks all coming on nicely. Backline is holding up well Miller was very good, forward line was good look dangerous when we move ball quick.

Negatives
Midfield is still getting smashed and don’t know why we are not trying to throw more players through there like Campbell, sonsie, maybe even brown or shorty.

Tresize fumbles way too much and kicking might not be good enough.

Dow has a crack but skills aren’t good enough

Taranto can not kick on the run, we should try him up forward more as well

Changes
Ins Balta, ralpsmith

Outs Bauer, Sonsie (he just doesn’t do enough if he is playing up forward)

Dunno about Dow
No kmac 2 in the vfl this week and Smillie not ready yet

No real options to bring in at this stage

Maybe Ralphsmith for Sonsie

Dow is giving it his all to save his career right now. He has played pretty well the last two weeks with twenty plus each game. He’s also always high in pressure acts.

He’s likely not the long term answer, but he’s improving and doing enough to retain his spot right now.

I genuinely think if he can feel he belongs he could establish a career.

We still started with Taranto Hopper and KMac in the centre again and still preserved with Taranto and Hopper throughout the whole game. Clearly the coaches are locked in on the Melbourne midfield model and are to stubborn to do anything different. Hardly a masterful coaching display
Our future midfielders are young kids, some not even in the team yet. No point flogging them in there too soon, plenty of the year left yet.
Lalor had 10 cba, so a good taste for him, definitely part of our future.
Macca was subbed out, which is probably why Lalor got more toward the end.
Macca and Dow are the 2 taking up a spot in the midfield, but as I said only early in the year, let's not give up hope just yet, I'm sure they will all get a taste as the year goes.

These statements concern me.

I've never seen a guy get caught more with the ball. If he managed to handball it today it seemed to find a Brissy player almost everytime.

Yet he had just one turnover. Dow was ok today. He’s not getting dropped and neither should he.

Ins: Ryan, Hugo, Alger
Outs: Dow, Bauer, Smith

Kmac becomes the sub.

Alger takes Ross' spot at HF (1 CBA for Ross, and seems like most of his touches came around the half fwd and a bit of the wing).

Ross takes Dow's spot in the midfield.

Hugo takes one wing, and either Banks or Trezise the other wing. The other then plays as the 7th defender, with Blight down back.

The extra small fwd in Alger also means you can probably have Campbell move up the field a bit more as well, whether that's to the wing for the outside speed, or into the middle for speed out of contest.

Unpopular opinion but I think Balta will be made to earn a spot via VFL.

I actually think it would send a poor message to slot him straight in ahead of someone like Campbell Gray who has been performing really well consistently.

For culture reasons and match fitness I think he comes back via VFL

The game was pretty much our modus operandi.
Hopperanto smashing in getting 60 between them and the Lynch/Vlas/Broad types helping the kids take positive growth out of the games.
Meanwhile we're working out which fringe players can play a role as we continue to bring in the young guns over the next few years while playing the structures.

Overall, I left with more positives. We didn't get smashed and kept going. Lalor 24 disposals, 2 goals (should've had 3), 4 tackles and 4 goal assists. Trainor 19 disposals and 4 marks. Armstrong was a little quiet compared to the other 2 but chimed in with some good marks and 2 goals. Seth Campbell is looking good, 15 disposals, 2 goals

Just on Trainor, we have a good one here. Love his endeavour and he likes to run and receive, but his disposal and decision-making can be a bit iffy at times. Went at 53%DE. No doubt, as he gains more experience and understands the speed of the game, he'll tidy that part of his game up.

Sims and Faull did well in the reserves today, both strong in the air. We have fixed our spine in the last few drafts ND/MSD
Balta, Gibcus, Fawcett, Blight, Gray, Amstrong, Faull, Sims. Lefal and Trainor will carry us for the next 8-10 years.

Now need to draft a few more speedy mids and some pressure forwards. We had 2 tackles inside 50 and Brissy had 13.
Loved to hear this as my kidneys let me down badly after VFL match I dropped off and didn't open my eyes till like 8 pm.
With the new kids you expect them to drop off in games so hearing they played well again gives me hope. Glad also to see they didn't take us to the cleaners as I expected.
