Reading the Krock article from Scott's press conference today, Mannagh doesn't sound a certainty for next week and it'll be a while before we see Martin in the seniors

Mannagh will be back in a week or two once fully fit and Martin will be a while fitness wise but he's more shot at the b22 than Wiltshire is we are stacked in that role.

Would have been a good way to lose your money last week considering Hill didn't hit the scoreboard
I have NFI why you defend him. Constantly as well.
He needs to learn in the VFL and is a liability in defence.

I'm thinking Humphries on Cameron (hopefully not Henry)

Mullin on someone like Rayner maybe - tell him just to stick on his hip, run where he runs and just be a pest
Humphries could be be wasted minding Cameron. He is a creative playmaker who may be neutralised having to keep a close check on a that type of player.
On the other hand might be an intriguing matchup.

Just reporting the basic facts - Mullin's key matchup last week was Hill and Hill didn't hit the scoreboard, so the notion that Mullin's opponent is good for 3+ goals in the dry doesn't exactly hold true

I also have no issue with him going back to the VFL supporting the idea that the role they want to see from him in the seniors is the role they then get him to play in the VFL; but he does seem to play different roles to what we see from him in the seniors, so not sure how much that's helping him learn a role

It's pretty clear though that the coaches see something in him which is why they are persisting with him in the seniors, likely in the hope of accelerating his development, and that's the reason I'm not surprised to see from hold his spot

And at the end of the day I'm not going to blindly throw him under the bus like some seen determined to do

I'm trying to remember who played on him up in the rain last year cause he really didn't have an impact; maybe it's because motorcycles don't travel too well in the wet that he seemed invisible

We've seen Cameron get the better of Stewart in the past, and it frustrate Stewart to the point he was reported & fined for wrestling Cameron - so that's a matchup I'd avoid if Stewart did get up to play

On Saturday night we saw Henry struggle against Higgins at times who just managed to get away from him, and Cameron is a better player than Higgins

It leaves the likes of Bowes, Guthrie, Humphries or Mullin as the likely candidates - I want to cross off the latter, and thinking it'll be a Guthrie or Humphries on him

Who do we think is going to be the sub out of that team? Of the likely candidates (Clohesy, Clark, Mullin) I’d rather it be Mullin, even though he has an important role to play this week on Brisbane’s smalls. But I do fear it’ll be Ted, even after he played such a good game last week. Clark showed good signs with a full mid game as well

I do think O’Connor comes in for Stewart, in which case he could also be the sub.

By reading that article, I would of thought Mannagh will be playing next week..

As much criticism of Mullin is floating (or more the jury is still out) he is dour and can run all day in the Irish rain.
Ted has his fans and deserves a continuation, which they like to do usually (but not always)
So I suspect Clark might be it, still building a tank, but he's a gun.

I think it was Kolodjashnij

☹️

He's definitely one player we're missing at the moment - his ability to play on taller opponents, but also smaller does seem to get overlooked by some Geelong fans

I could see a situation that when he returns it's Mullin who is sent back to the VFL, and we continue to use O'Sullivan more as the 3rd tall alongside Henry & Blicavs, as he doesn't deserve to lose his spot based on his form to start the season

Bowes had zero CBAs in round 1, and collected majority of his disposals in the attacking half of the ground; 23% defensive half & 77% offensive half

He then played a totally different role in round 2 - the following is what I posted earlier this week in regards to his match against St Kilda

He had the 9 CBAs against St Kilda - all were in the first half

You can also see a difference in where he collected his possessions across the game:
  • 22% offensive & 78% defensive for the game, BUT
  • 50% split in the first quarter, then
  • 100% of his possessions were in the defensive half after quarter time
He's something of our current 'Mr Fix-It' where it looks like the first choice role for him is as part of the midfield rotation, but when we lose a rotation from our defensive unit, he gets moved behind the ball

IF Stewart doesn't get up to play this week, I expect we'll see him play primarily behind the ball against Brisbane - it's the role we saw him play against Brisbane last year when Stewart went off with concussion

As fans we've got our expectations for what we want to see from him, but I'm thinking the coaches are looking at his role slightly differently and it not necessarily being all about the numbers

9, 10 disposals in any non-key position role is simply not enough.

Could Bowes be the sub?

We've used him in that role in the past and he potential offers a bit more versatility than a few other options who are currently seen as more single role players

Has to be Clark. He's still getting pushed off the ball so easily, and he'll fare even worse in wet conditions. Need as many bigger bodies as possible in these conditions.

Reckon Bowes plays either midfield or gets the job on Charlie Cameron and also think that will be determined by whether both Stewart and Smith play.

You make it sound like he's a 13yr old.
Clark did fine last week. He needs minutes at senior level in order to progress. He's been very good in wet weather footy throughout the VFL.
Bowes was deplorable last week. Seriously, he should have been dropped for that insipid effort.

Clark, Knevitt, Smith, Dangerfield, Atkins, Holmes is good enough to match it with this Brisbane side who narrowly got over the line against us last year in the prelim.

I reckon Ted did the role as sub a little too well last week, so I reckon he gets the vest again. Not many players can have impact in such a short amount of time, like he did. Could be as simple as tactically subbing out COS given the wet, and bringing him on second half for more pace - if it looks like that's what we need.

I do agree that Bowes has been bad, but Clark has been a liability over the ball. He’s had the right intent, but he doesn’t have the size or strength to compete just yet. He only managed 5 contested disposals last week, if there was a stat for contest win % it wouldn’t look good. I’d much prefer Clohesy in his place.

I feel like we lose this one very comfortably, but I'd love to be proven wrong! Brisbane now have an ingredient they've never had: the self belief of success. They'll be very tough to beat. It's a perfect measuring stick for our team right now to see what we can do.
