I'm probably going to feel like an idiot when I understand it, but this doesn't help. I have 2 kids under 4, I rarely see the news and I'm not aware of any SFC stories on AFL.com lately, so anything about Sydney the location or the football club and winning, has gone straight over my head.
I assume the winning streak is tied to the ladder position (location) not actual teams. For our winning streak we were several ladder positions before settling into 2nd, then collingwood had a bye, so we were first for a week, then we had our bye, putting us back to 2nd. Collingwood had a loss to melbourne, breaking the position 1 winning streak

Yes, I got it eventually.
This actually made me go an confirm the stats and 1) it's true (unsurprisingly) and 2) I learned that the only 3 teams that have in the 8 for the whole season are Collinwood, St Kilda and Melburne.
My guess is that whatever teams have been 15th on the ladder have won for 7 weeks in a row.
