It honestly sucks to watch his fumbles.

He genuinely looks disappointed and cares.

But he does it again when the ball comes in 30 seconds later.

It takes him til after the bye to stop fumbling then he looks good but it's so annoying

We won't solve his fumbles under Hinkley for the same reason we didn't solve Butcher's goalkicking. Hinkley's method is to mentally disintegrate you until you wish you'd been born in western Mongolia and toiled away in the fields herding Yaks having never heard of Australian football.

The gap between his best and worst is large. Let's not forget he played some genuinely good games last year.

There's something to work with for a competent coach who acrually bothers to instill self-belief in his players. The fumbles are in his head.

He's not that bad. He had a bad game against the pies but let's not burn the kid round 1. I think we should look at moving him to another position maybe the wing? He has speed and power, i just think he is not suited as an intercept defender because his overhead marking is his weakness.

Yep have to agree with others here, 100% mental. And that comes back to training methods and intesity levels. Fumbles because he just needs to feel comfortable and at ease out there and that comes down to training that comfort into him. Goes for the whole team really.

Connected off the field, but on the field zero connection.

Has anyone else noticed that he no longer goes after the man like he used to? He should be playing in the Maynard mold—striking fear into the opposition whenever he's nearby. It almost seems like he's taken that edge out of his game.

Exactly the same as DBJ imo. Used to both be hardened defenders with no fear when entering the system. Now both marshmallows who look scared out there.

Lachie cant play, he is so bad. It’s hard to watch him. I thought he was just scared but I think he has no feel for the game at all. Maybe the multiple concussions have stopped him playing competitively as he just seems plain scared.

Yep. We've seen him take marks, it's not a skill issue, it's 100% mental, and we won't fix it under Hinkley.
I don't think it's mental - we have seen him have stinkers like this before. It may have even been against Collingwood last season where he put in a very very similar showing and just kept fumbling.

I think it's down to a lack of prep on his part. It's round 1, so everyone is a bit rusty, but this is beyond that.

Watch any player (at lower levels obviously) that haven't played for a season without having really touched a football in that time. They get in the right positions etc., but their ball handling is cooked. This is what he reminded me of.
