Boots is worth pick 24 by himself.

What about:

BL send Docherty to Carlton
Carlton send Boots to WCE
WCE send pick 24 to BL

No thanks.

I'm not willing to part with a talented young player who is contracted for a talented young out of contract player looking to come home who has reportedly nominated Carlton as his preferred destination.

That's the definition of paying 'overs' which is something we should not be considering under the circumstances

Pretty sure as soon as the media gets wind of two BS rumours involving the same player and 2 different clubs, they start printing the word 'shopped around'. I'll wait for official announcements thanks.

Nah about Carlton announcing that Boots isn't being shopped around

Where is this info on the CFC Twitter? "announced that Boots hasnt been shopped around, had a couple of enquiries about his services and are not considering trading him unless someone comes up with a fantastic offer to acquire his services."

I might not have been on twitter, but I did read somewhere that Carlton are not shopping Boots and Lucas around and that the rumours were false.

I think that The_Wookie also said something about it as well... we fielded some offers from other clubs, below market value, we knocked them back and from that... Jay Clark and Jon Anderson made up that story that we were shopping them around!

If we were shopping them around, there would be more talk about it on trade radio.

I rate Bootsma too, but surely if the market rate for Docherty (pick 12 in 2011) is 28/29, then Bootsma (pick 22 in 2011) can't be worth more, especially considering both have had similar careers to this point, a handful of games without setting the world on fire. Trying to find an in between because if all they can get is pick 40 then they may as well keep him and continue developing him.

Bootsma is contracted - signed to an extension by a club that has faith in him and he in it or else he wouldn't have signed on. Sam Docherty is out of contract, homesick for Melbourne and can put himself into the draft should Brisbane opt not to trade him. Brisbane are in a no win situation. Carlton, on the other hand, is in a win-win position. Either we get overs for Bootsma or we keep him. Either way we are satisfied.

*knock knock* is there anything in there???

You do realise that with GWS getting like the first 8 or so picks, plus activating some traded compo picks, pick 22 was still a first round pick? In fact, check it out, round 2 didnt even start until pick 30.

Pick 22 would have been pick 13 in a normal season (pick 14 if you included GWS in it)

He didn't request a trade, Carlton want to trade him for whatever reasons they may have, so they surely aren't going out demanding the world for him, they just want something they think will help the team. West Coast haven't sought him out, and word is he doesn't particularly want to go. Carlton are instigating this, meaning they're the ones who may have to give a little in the trade.

What round it is means nothing, pick 22 is pick 22 whether its round 1, 2 or 20. The fact is, in the same draft, Docherty was deemed to be a better option than Bootsma by 10 picks. Neither have done anything yet to show that one will definitely be better than the other, therefore you have to assume the status quo applies and Docherty is still more valuable than Bootsma.

Then... would either of them gone first round if GWS didnt have 9 picks in the top 15 and all the talent that they pinched, thanks to the AFL, had been available?

So therefore, using your logic... Kane Lucas is worth much more than the third rounder that people are saying we should accept for him.

Help me Robinson Kreuzer you're my only hope.

I am thinking of just going out and buying a 2l bottle of vodka and skulling the lot... the resulting headache would be less than trying to deal with some of the 'experts' running around on here!

It doesn't matter that GWS had all those early picks, regardless of who had what pick, Docherty was deemed to be the 12th best player in that draft pool, Bootsma the 22nd. What round of drafting it is means nothing. Are you seriously suggesting that pick 22 in a draft where it is in the first round is worth more than pick 22 in a draft where it is in the 2nd round? Pick 22 gives you access to the entire draft pool minus the 21 picked before it, who cares what round it's in.

I am saying that the entire first round in 2011 was screwed because it was so compromised with GWS taking so many of the good talent before the rest of the league stepped in.

But what you are saying is that even if all the GWS picks were taken out, Docherty would still have been the 12th best player in the draft? Or with the GWS picks taken out, that pick would have been pick #5 (GC17, Port Adelaide, Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne) which was traded to Brisbane by Melbourne for Mitch Clarke.

So you are therefore saying that Docherty is the equal of Matt Buntine? all things considered...

WTF? I think it's pretty obvious what JezBlues is saying, it's not that hard to grasp is it?

Has anyone else been thinking that Malthouse is just out to win another premiership before his time is over and not setting up for the future? by putting these (soon to be superstars) up for trade and showing interest and older guys? (eg. podsiadly, chapman...

It's a fair point. However, it may just be that he realises that we either pinch one before '16 or it may well be a long time after that while we wait for GCS or GWS to settle down. Of course, we still have to see what transpires in the draft - so far it's a mix of middle-aged and young-ish that we've brought in.

Yep, driving/eating across western Europe.

Started Barcelona》nice》florence》rome》milan》geneva》paris》Bordeaux》Barcelona

Hopefully with a day trip to emirates stadium if I can get tix

I leave the Greek Islands for Turkey tomorrow. Oddly, bumped into a fellow Carlton supporter who was also a fellow Coburg man on the island a few days ago....Not sure if you've been here, but it's bloody amazing. I don't really want to leave but time and money are getting tight. In saying that, I'm excited for Turkey as well. Did parts of western Europe before flying across. Loved Ireland, Nice, Paris and Edinburgh mostly....How outrageously expensive is Geneva?? Sheeesh. I think it was about 10 AUD for a large coffee from Starbucks!!

Who cares who had what picks, the same players would have been available no matter what.

Doc was pick 12 and Bootsma was pick 22
