PS5 is half a decade old and sold at $800 for a long period.
And is still more powerful.
Switch was around PS4 price for many years until that got phased out by PS5. I think sales will be fine everywhere except USA depending on what the hell Trumps govt actually decides on doing. Pack of flogs.
We shall see I guess

the PS5 was over a grand

Was 750 for the disc edition.

Again, I don't think the cost of the console itself is the issue but rather the cost of games. A fair bit to play out, but unless Nintendo adopts the deep sale modus operandi the other key players use then it is certainly a bit concerning.

And people are complaining about that too mate.
Not sure what you're on about. My Switch 2 is already paid for.
I found a couple dozen eggs and at $30 an egg we're all sorted.

To be fair, digital copies will be cheaper than physical..

I don't like it myself, but I think we are moving to an era (on all platforms) where software companies will try encourage more people to buy digital instead of physical copies of games.

Same concerns exist there though - Nintendo never gives deep cuts on their library, be it digital or physical. If I had to pay retail price or close to for PS5 games, I wouldn't bother.

Yeah the console price I can understand, but the game price increase is worthy of criticism. Even though the storage is higher, still having carts as a 'key' to download like discs now is a bit rich.

Like mickelboy182 is saying, they would want to be doing some legit sales on the games if they want to rope people in.

Sub service isn't like Gamepass or PS+ (which is I haven't gotten in years now) so they don't have library for people that don't have money to burn to fall back on.

They really needed to have a proper flagship game like a Zelda or 3D Mario to launch with and build excitement and let people sink their teeth into.

I've pre-ordered and looking forward to playing Kart and titles when they get out, but launch is definitely worthy of criticism.

Kids are getting into area games and shooters and the even younger kids are playing tablets.

With handheld PCs more popular now, Nintendo have far less of a point of difference then they did a decade ago.

The key carts things is another misinterpreted thing. Looks like Nintendo games will still be on the cart, the key cart is more for developers that do not want to spend massive amounts on high capacity carts.

I don’t mind it, it’s an improvement on the download required games we saw with Switch 1 like Wolfenstein which came with a code instead of a cart, means you can resell it later on.

That seems to be the way I interpreted it, there's been a LOT of misinformation lately when we don't even have our hands on the system yet. I'm sticking to the official Nintendo sources rather than being another one of those 'do-your-own-research' types that'll shoot themselves in the foot.

I don't really understand how people don't understand the price, hasn't everything in life gone up? food, cars, houses...
That’s correct, and if the switch has a larger screen, better performance was always going to come at a higher price.

Metriod Prime 4,Donkey Kong Bananza,Mario Kart World don't have the "key card" warning on their box art

As long as Nintendo games remain on the cart I'm not fussed. recon it will be a lot of big 3rd party games that will use key cards and I play those on my PS5

As someone who grew up playing Yoshi's Island and Mario 64 on a 51 cm CRT TV I couldn't care less about Gamechat and a little camera on a stick. But a bigger screen and new Mario Kart? Shut up and take my money!

Agree the pricing seems a little high but also I remember games costing a lot more relative to what I had (mostly as a kid, so I had **** all). I have an Xbox game at home with a price sticker on it and it was $90 in 2004.I don't remember exactly but I thought Goldeneye was about $80 and that was the 90s. You can see searching online that a PS2 was $750 and FIFA 2001 was $99 and this is coming up on 25 years ago. So in that context it doesn't look so bad. But also my Switch 1 Mario Kart bundle was $399 (not at release) and the Switch 2 bundle is almost double that...

When I was buying games as a uni student I could get petrol for under $1/L, a footlong sandwich from Subway for $5 and jugs of beer for $8. All those these like many other things are up 2-3x in the same time period.

If the US are too going to be selling switch 2 games for $80-$100

What is Australia going to be in for.
They probably will be $150-$200 a game.
Hard pass on this Switch. And it's all digital so that dictates the market
and makes games even more expensive.

Nintendo are being greedy with this console.

On EB games they're currently around $110-$120 for standard non limited edition S2 games

Oh that's not too bad. So all the talk of price increases on games is only the US prices increasing.
So far yes. I think it’s an unlikely scenario that the price is raises in regions other than the US, at the moment anyway.

No. Switch games were 80 dollars here, some even 90. This is a 30-40 price hike for us too.

Mario Party Jamboree as an example. 79.95 on switch. 109.95 on switch 2.

Nintendo is probably seeing new release PS5 games being sold at $120 and decided to follow suit.
Seems that's the going rate for new release games these days.
Assassin's Creed Shadows retails for $120

Nintendo must see themselves on the level of PS5 with Switch 2 so jump up the prices accordingly.

Crazy if they do. What on earth makes Mario Party 30 dollars more on switch 2?

I am talking about further price increases in the US due to the tariffs imposed this week.
In that case my apologies.

I don't think this level of sensible level-headed thinking is appreciated in this thread
