I'd be surprised if Long gets Brownlow votes - they wouldn't know who he is.I don’t predict Brownlow votes because umps have no clue either as has been shown many times but the coaches votes is exactly how I’d have them too.

Never doubt Richmond fans for our nuffynessTime to start the Sam Lalor Can he be the GOAT thread?
Though I think Tiger fans probably won't do that to the poor kid, unlike some....
I think Henry will get the 5. He was awesome.Coaches Votes:
5. Long
4. Sidey
3. Daicos
2. Heeney
1. Cameron
Brownlow:
3. Daicos
2. Heeney
1. Sidey
Now that the Pies have unearthed his trusty sidekick Neck Long, the real question is can this be the greatest midfield duo of all time.

Ideally they'd wait at least 5-10 years, that would be a sensible approach I think, let the kid get established and not draw universal ire.It would be a bit early - they need to wait until he's performing as the best player in the competition 6 rounds into his second season.
So you're saying that Nick is the GDOAT (Greatest Decoy of all Time)?I know the football knowledge at the SCG is very low having been there multiple times myself, but you may as well come out as say you have NFI.
You think Sidebottom and Long have the same influence on the game if Nick doesn’t have Jordon trying to negate him?
Maybe you’re trying to be dramatic and every time Nick isn’t BOG (one of the other two above for mine) it means he ‘didn’t do much’. Forget the fact that Sidey keeps running to space unopposed this year because he’s matched with the opposition’s attacking mid (that’s a nice way of saying front runner).
Let’s watch you melt now when Nick gets a few coaches votes and Brownlow votes from the game.
It does sound like itSo you're saying that Nick is the GDOAT (Greatest Decoy of all Time)?
No knock on Nick Daicos coz he's a sensational player 'hence thread title' but a young Sam Darcy is something else. To have such a giant athletic, multi-talented and highly skilled big man in Sam 'is a rarity' and must have the Doggie supporters in raptures!
Genuine cheat code.
6’9 with reach, sticky hands, crashes packs, good below knees aaaand kicks both feet???
Absolutely. Incredible talent. Think you'll need a change in the game though for a kpf to become as influential as they once were and as influential as the best mids.No knock on Nick Daicos coz he's a sensational player 'hence thread title' but a young Sam Darcy is something else. For most of the time I have watched footy the sensational KPF was the most valuable player you could have. Hudson, Wade, McKenna, Lockett, Dunstall, Ablett, Carey all influenced the game like no others could. Except Matthews.Absolutely. Incredible talent. But as sr36 points out you would have to change the game to see that again. Once possession dominated territory, the game became tactical and played in a enclosed space with precision of delivery reaching a new scale the game changed. Mids importance skyrocketed.
If Darcy played in a territory game where he was regularly allowed 1 on 1 contests like those days he would be scary.
We have had one player in that time who was the prototype of Darcy. Paul Salmon, 206cm, so compared to the KPB of the time had the same height advantage or even a little more, same build, similar mobility and skill set. In his 2nd season, as a 19yo, he monstered the comp, 63 goals in 13 games and most feared player in the game until he did an ACL and missed a year. Had an all time great career, picked 26th in Essendons greatest players ever.
That is the difference. Darcy has huge potential but in the modern game Daicos has been arguably the best player in the comp in the last 2 years. If he even kept up the same performance for the rest of his career he ends up the best player Collingwood has had by the length of the Flemington straight.
This weekGood target but has no defensive game.
This week:
Nick Daicos 9 tackles
Sam Darcytackles
This week
Sam Darcy - 4 contested marks
I won't even bother with the amount for Nick. Everyone knows the answer
Tackle stats - righteo
Are they really desperate enough to be comparing the number of contested marks for a 200 cm key forward and a 180cm midfielder? This week-
Nick Daicos- Influenced a win against one of last year's Grand Finalists
Sam Darcy- Could not influence a win against one of last year's Grand Finalists
Only someone thats supposedly the GOATAre they really desperate enough to be comparing the number of contested marks for a 200 cm key forward and a 180cm midfielder?
What next? Comparison of hit out numbers with Max Gawn?
Ummmm, someone compared tackles initially. I mean, really, cmon. Are they really desperate enough to be comparing the number of contested marks for a 200 cm key forward and a 180cm midfielder?

He looks an outstanding talent for sure. Paul Salmonesque at this stage. The game can't go back to territory, anyone doing that would be ripped apart even with Darcy. KPF just can't have the influence like they did unless rules transform the game.If there was more players like Sam Darcy it wouldn’t be a territory based game. On the open market Darcy would be first picked.
