Except.....

Daicos did elevate his game to the point where many were referring to him as 'the best player in the game' from as early as the midpoint of his second season.

And as sr36 mentioned earlier, of course there is upside for a player entering his 4th season - in the same way that he has improved many elements of his game over the first three years of his career.
His improvements have been marginal compared to his peers like the example I provided but if you believe otherwise I guess ignorance is bliss

Only because he was so good from day one.

But if think improving from about the 5th or 6th best player in his team in year 1 to the best player in the comp in year 2 is 'marginal', I really can't help you....

It had always been one of the bigger questions marks over him since day one, the bloke walked in the doors a gun but it was hard to see where we would see improvements in his game to elevate himself to that next level

The guys who he left in his dust during his first few seasons have now at those years to fill out size wise and have that experience that have allowed them to catch him in terms of output

Perfect example was Callaghan on the weekend who looks like he could eclipse Daicos if he continues on his upward trajectory, especially given his size that could see him as one of those big bodied unicorn mids that are what every club wants

Seriously? Did you miss him going from runner up in the Brownlow playing as an outside runner to the following year bieng runner up in the Brownlow due to suddenly having an elite inside game - with top 3 in the league for clearances?

That would be a positional change not an overall improvement in ability

Any dramatic improvement from year 2 to 3?

Like I said
Marginal, especially if you are comparing the improvement of his peers

You'd better tell that to the majority of people who have been, and are, referring to him as such...
A few media pundits isn't the majority. If you have any actual data that shows he's the best player in the game then I'm sure we'd all love to see it.

Cripps was better in 2024, Bont in 2023, plenty of others ahead in 2022.

He's elevated himself to the top 5 players range, but he's still a way off the best.

I’m sure Fadge would agree with those same media personalities who rate players like Rance who some of called one of the greatest defenders in the history of the game if he takes so much stock in what the media says who are not prone to hyperbole at all

Could be just me but almost 400 pages and counting on someone who apparently can't be the GOAT reeks of posters trying really hard to comfort themselves this won't be the case.

You poor poor buggers.
Are you trying to say he will be better than Wayne Carey, Lockett and Gary Ablett senior?

Just retained his status as the best player in the league, despite being forced to play a different role, one that is less suited to his skillset and playing style...

Danger 3.8
Ablett 4.3

Definitely both did more of the hard defensive stuff than Martin. Both retired or will retire older too, so the age excuse doesn't fit.

Higher in contested to uncontested possession ratios too.
Dusty spent a lot more time forward in his later years compared to those two who in their prime were pure inside mids. Not taking anything away from them. Ablett Jnr in my eyes is the GOAT (at least of the modern era) and Dangerfield is a phenomenal player but didn't perform anywhere near as well as Dusty in big games.

The Tigers were very open about Dusty and his defensive pressure - it was his job to push forward whereas guys like Cotchin and Lambert did far more of the defensive work and allowed Dusty to dominate the scoreboard. That's why the team was so successful, they weren't worried about making sure a teammate got 30+ touches a game.

And here we go....

Richmond supporters realising they have a long and miserable 5 years ahead of them, now trying to seek validation for a player who retired 7 years ago...
Im just showing some examples of what the media have said about Alex Rance,

You can’t have it both ways, if you want to use what the media say about Daicos that same level of reverence should be applied to what they say about other players

Same when he spouts off about the Brownlow. Apparently that's the be all and end all of gauging who the best is, yet Fudge ignores Cripps who won by a mile.

It was a relevant award in the whole lead up, but as soon as he realised Nicky had no shot of catching Crippa on the night the award became a farce and irrelevant. Just classic shifting goal posts.

The Brownlow is a farce now. I'm not gonna bother to watch it anymore.
Watching 2 hours of advertisements and having midfielders get all the votes, no thankyou.
