Road to Sakura Genesis Day 2 notes:
Tanahashi beat Taguchi.

Shingo Takagi and Yota Tsuji beat EVIL and Dick Togo.

Robbie Eagles and Fujita retained the IWGP Jr Tag Titles vs Taiji Ishimori and Robbie X. Post-match Master Wato and YOH came out and said they want the next title shot.

El Desperado retained the IWGP Jr Title vs Clark Connors in a Hardcore match in a brutal main event, very good. Broken glass bottles, barbed wire chairs used. There was even a spinebuster off the top rope through a table on the outside. Post-match they had a beer together and then gave each other the finger haha. Then a video package aired of CMLL's Templario saying he wants a title shot.

NJPW Sakura Genesis notes:
Yuya Uemura beat Sanada.

Great-O-Khan won the NJPW TV Title from ELP via a countout due to Khan giving a tombstone to ELP on a chair on the outside. The title is able to be won via a countout.

Shota Umino beat Tanahashi.

Ren Narita, SHO and Yujiro Takahashi retained the Never 6 Man Tag Titles vs Drilla Moloney, Gabe Kidd and Taiji Ishimori. During the match there was a ref bump, the House of Torture tried to use a wrench, Clark Connors made the save. Sanada also came in wearing Seth Rollins style big red boots lmao. He then turned on the War Dogs costing them the match by hitting Drilla Moloney with a guitar, and then joined the H.O.T.

Konosuke Takeshita retained the Never Openweight Title vs Ryohei Oiwa.

Jeff Cobb and Callum Newman won the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Titles from Naito and Hiromu Takahashi. Cobb not going to WWE?

Yota Tsuji retained the IWGP Global Title vs EVIL. Before the match EVIL jumped Tsuji during his entrance, and it turned out to be Tsuji's twin brother. Tsuji outsmarting EVIL. Chris Charlton said "I'm seeing double, 4 Tsuji's" lmao. During the match there was a ref bump and the H.O.T. beat up both Tsuji's, then Shingo Takagi made the save. Before the finish the H.O.T accidentality threw powder and spat whiskey in EVIL's eyes. Post-match Yuya Uemura came out wanting the next title shot.

Goto retained the IWGP World Title vs David Finlay in a good main event. Post-match Goto said he will defend against Shota Umino at Windy City Riot, crowd booed.

Added to Windy City Riot:

NJPW Windy City Riot notes:
TJP beat Tom Lawlor.

Jorel Nelson and Royce Isaacs retained the NJPW Strong Tag Titles vs Kevin Knight and Kushida via low blow while the ref wasn't looking. TJP was at ringside with an eye on the titles.

Ishii won the NJPW Strong Title from Gabe Kidd in a 30 min Iron Man match. The 30 mins ended 1-1 and then Ishii won in sudden death.

Naito and Titan beat ELP and Rocky Romero.

ZSJ beat David Finlay. The ref counted 3 as Finlay kicked out, then they did the finish again, weird.

Goto retained the IWGP World Title vs Shota Umino.

A video package aired of The Young Bucks challenging War Dogs at Resurgence next month. They teased that Gallows and Anderson might tag with them too?

Konosuke Takeshita retained the Never Openweight Title vs Tanahashi in the main event.

NJPW seems to have developed this awful habit of trying to use its belts/big spots as a negotiating tactic. So they put them on guys who aren't under contract - which, given what we know about NJPW contracts, has probably been the case since the end of January with Cobb - and trip over their own dicks when Paps H rings and says "hey Jeff, Raw after WM, get to Vegas".

NJPW has announced today that Bushi is leaving, despite being named for BOSJ.

And in much, much bigger news, Tetsuya Naito is also leaving. Both are finishing up at Dontaku in a few weeks.

That's pretty wild in the case of Naito. He's been freelancing all year. They still haven't really used him to put guys over in the same way they failed to do with Okada. They've handled the end of this Okada/Tana/Naito era really terribly.

I don't imagine he's going to WWE or AEW at this stage of his career, so I have to think he's just freelancing and maybe taking some time to rest his body.
