Waylon Davey Motlop is playing in the SANFl for Glenelg this year and has supposedly lost a lot of weight and is taking the game more seriously.

That sounds exactly like the path Willie Rioli took to get drafted.

Going to try and do an ongoing power rankings of AFL draftable guys for the year, updating weekly. Round 1 may be a little skewed as 3 teams had the bye (Frankston, GWS, Gold Coast), but here it is;

$5 Luca Muratore, Western Bulldogs VFL, 22 years old, 180cm, small fwd / midfielder
Kicked 4 in a resoundingly one sided affair against Northern Bullants. Expect big things from this buzz box

#4 Cam Nyko, Essendon VFL, 20 years old, 180cm, utility
Kicked 3 and turned the game in a topsy turvy game in the Bombers favour. Looks a class above

#3 Nick Williams, Southport, 18 years old, 190cm, utility
16 possessions in a clean display across half back for an under siege Sharks side.

#2. Riley Baldi, Casey Demons,, 23 years old, 181cm, small midfielder / forward
31 possessions for this country star. Inside midfield

#1 Riley Mason, Collingwood VFL, 23 year old, 197cm, key forward (Link to a Rookie Me summary of his game)
4 goals from 10 possessions in a 25 point win for the VFL Magpies.

Some honourable mentions and ones to keep an eye out for 2025 that may feature soon enough.
Ethan Williams (Southport) Wyatt Greenaway (Brisbane), Tobyn Murray (Richmond VFL) couple at Frankston im keen to see next week.

Anyone impress you on week one of VFL football?
Donovan Toohey, elite kick, 40 possessions for Coburg.

Obviously some byes in round 2 are skewing the rankings at the moment but can only go off what we have. Some movers and shakers.

Riley Baldi moves to the top of the rankings after another big game for the Demons, 181cm/23 y.o small forward Flynn Young jumps up to second after a hugely influential game for Weribee against my mob on Saturday. Riley Mason couldn't do anything as his Pies had the bye. Josh Hamilton has had two big weeks for a largely undermanned Northern Bullants, the 21 year old, 179cm midfielder has now had 27 & 25 possessions and a goal a game over the first two weeks. Lively Richmond small fwd Massimo Raso has jumped out of no where to put up some decent numbers in the first two weeks. 19 & 2 in round 1, 24 & 2 (behinds) in round 2 are big numbers for an 18 year old standing at 171cm. Ethan Williams (Sandringham), Nick Williams (Southport), Josh Green (Por Melbourne) and Taj Campbell-Farrah (Frankston) close enough to the top 5.

#1 Riley Baldi - Casey Demons (up 1 spot)
#2 Flynn Young - Weribee Zebras (NEW)
#3 Riley Mason - Collingwood Magpies (down 2 spots)
#4 Josh Hamilton - Northern Bullants (NEW)
#5 Massimo Raso - Richmond VFL (NEW)

HM. Ethan Williams (Sandringham), Nick Williams (Southport), Josh Green (Port Melbourne), Taj Campbell-Farrah (Frankston), Joel Trudgeon (Coburg)

His first two goals were impressive, the latter two were one out the back and a fairly straightforward set shot after winning a free. Personally I was more impressed by Liam McMahon's haul of four.

Has anyone mentioned Richmond's Tom McCarthy yet?

I watch all games that Kane McAuliffe plays and this fella has really caught my eye 2 weeks in a row, a real aggressive runner off half back, good size and excellent skills, a real metres gained type running back,

You're not "that" SEN caller are you?

Huh?

I just watch Richmond VFL games because I have interest in Kane McAuliffe's games, no other reason and Tom McCarthy has been a standout for a player I wasn't aware of until watching Kane's games.

There’s a guy who calls in to SEN every now and then to rant, and always mentions McAuliffe not getting a fair go at senior level.
Not me bud, it's just that he played for the same colts team as I did Central Augusta and for other personal reasons.

That's like 73.8% of Richmond fans tbh 😁
Not bad by Kane considering he only played the 3 quarters before being rested as back up for the seniors?

Equal top coaches votes and that other fella Tom McCarthy also featured :)

Boyd had the luxury of going up against a guy who has never played footy and should probably never again.

Kane is starting to show glimpses of his burst from stoppage which we didn't see last year which is exciting.

McCarthy been good twice. I didn't watch a lot last year but apparently started well before dropping away. Not sure how old he is.

Don't worry I've looked into Tom McCarthy's footy background, he's 24 and has virtually come from nowhere in regards to top level footy.

Yeah that Colina bloke is pretty useless, Samson Ryan was far more competitive when he went into the ruck and way way better skilled by a long long way.

I have completely overlooked him, probably because he came from my (VFL) club but Joel Fitzgerald (Williamstown), the former Northern Knights captain and Vic Metro representative has started the season exceptionally well for the Seagulls in a mid/def role.

The 21 year old (born 8.8.2003) should certainly be in contention for the mid season draft if he continues his rapid rise

#1 Riley Mason - Collingwood VFL (UP 2 SPOTS)

moves back into the number 1 spot after a terrific outing today for the Magpies in a see sawing game at Barry Plant Park (Coburg home ground). Managed to catch about 80% of this game on the box and he was terrific. Took some wonderful contested marks, kicked truly. Was even mentioned in the broadcast he has been added to the VFL state squad for next weeks representative game against the Croweaters.

#2 Massimo Raso - Richmond VFL (UP 3 SPOTS)
The little terrier was apparently terrific for the VFL Tigers in a big upset win over the often powerful Brisbane Lions reserves. Kicked 3, had 11 touches, 2 inside and rebound 50s showed his silliness to work up and back the ground. Being 171cm is the big slight at the moment. 5 goals from 3 matches is one to watch

#3 Nick Williams - Southport (NEW TO LIST)
his 20 year old is quietly putting together a fairly consistent start to the season. Another high teens game with largely positive influence. Has been named in the bests in 2/3 games so doing the coaches direction well. A quiet MSD chance?

#4 Riley Baldi - Casey Demons (DOWN 3 SPOT)
Well beaten today with the 15 possessions in a tough loss on the road to the Cats. Never stopped trying with 3 marks and 4 tackles to go along with his 15 touches.

#5 Tom Macarthy - Richmond (NEW TO LIST)
The 24 year old has quietly gone about his business and enters as a real smoky for the MSD. Started as a skinny rangy outside player but has moved more inside and is leading the young VFL tigers well. Just over 22 touches a game, 4 I50's and 4 marks a game, he is one to keep an eye out.

Some honourable mentions for the round;

Ethan Williams from Sandringham had 29 possessions (assuming a large amount of kick ins consider the 29 kicked by Gold Coast?) and 12 rebound 50's. He sits JUST outside my 5 at the moment after a solid first three games.

Josh Hamilton (Northern Bullants) Had another 29 touches, He probably sits outside my top 5 as not named in the bests by coaches despite a big stats day.

Jackson Voss (Frankston) is a father son to St.Kilda and posted during the night that I think he has attributes to play at the highest level. 26 on Saturday night, 11 marks (largely intercepting)5 rebound 50s so one to keep an eye on for the year.

Ollie Lowe (North Melbourne VFL) had a big day with 29 possessions, 8 marks and 2.0. Had a decent past fortnight to put his name as one to watch.

Jovan Petric (Williamstown) is a 21 year old key forward who did a bit of everything this weekend. 3.0, 17 possessions, 6 marks, 5 inside 50s and 5 hitouts. One to watch if he can continue to build on a reasonable enough start to the year.

Had a couple of hiccups from guys on my radar, Luca Muratore, the mature ager returning to the VFL kicked 4 in round 1 had 1 possession. Assuming injured this round? Flynn Young was well held to 7 possessions and 1.0.

Anyone impress you on the weekend ?

I reckon Floyd Burmeister (GWV rebels) Key Forward and Charlie Orchard (Dandy) 190cm half back would be the leading candidates from the Coates League as MSD options for those clubs looking for younger options with plenty of upside.
Sulzberger was good for Tasmania on the weekend against Calder. Cooper Herbert was very good as an overeager
