Round 18 Recap: Bears 100 - 93 Wonders
The Bears wrapped up Season 38 in style, hosting the Wonders at the Stadium in the Sky for a match that may not have mattered for finals but meant everything for pride and for Shadow Man and @JoseMourinho’s 50th games for the Bears. Despite the low stakes, the action was anything but, with RonnieRaven delivering early fireworks in his new forward role and the Bears starting strong. After a third quarter wobble that saw the Wonders wrestle the lead, the Bears roared back in the final term, sparked by Cap and capped off by @kane249’s clutch goal. A nail biting finish saw us hang on for a 7 point win, proving that while we missed finals, we didn’t miss a chance to finish on a high.

That ends our count for tonight, now to reveal the winner for people who couldn't be bothered counting or can't count which I expect is most of you.

In third its the back to back winner of the past 2 seasons Millky95 who was unable to make it a hat trick.

Ladies and gentlemen, it's time to present our Best Rookie Award. Now, SSSSSS might have won this by default as our only rookie, but don't let that fool you, his stats tell the story of someone who truly earned this honour.

Finishing second in kicks for the season, just one behind Chipmunk (who we're pretty sure was hoarding them like nuts), SSSSSS made the field his playground, collecting possessions at will. He ranked sixth for marks, third for handballs, and despite his well documented aversion to tackling, somehow managed to wrap up 18 opponents, though we suspect they just froze in fear when they saw him coming.

The umpires seemed particularly fond of our rookie too, giving him the fourth most free kicks on the team. And with 11 goals and the fourth highest Dreamteam score of 1,082 points, SSSSSS has proven that even in a field of one, he would've been tough to beat.

Please put your hands together for our Best Rookie, SSSSSS!

Mateflon Medal.png

Ladies, Gentlemen and Bears, we've arrived at the pinnacle of our awards night, the Mateflon Medal, the highest honour at the Las Vegas Bears. Tonight, we celebrate not just an incredible season but a historic achievement as Cap claims his fourth Mateflon Medal, the most in our club's history!

He's now won it every three seasons, starting from Season 29, so I guess we can already pencil him in for Season 41.

On the field, Cap was nothing short of exceptional. Despite playing one game less, Cap finished just one Dreamteam point behind the leader and ranked in the top two for hitouts, handballs, tackles and free kicks received. He was top five in almost every category, except marks, where he was second last. Clearly, Cap believes marking the ball is overrated when you can just tap it perfectly to a teammate.

Off the field, Cap's influence was just as impactful. Leading the team with an incredible 818 posts in match threads, he kept spirits high, the banter flowing, and the team engaged. Cap's presence made a huge difference across the board.

Cap's contributions, both on and off the field, embody everything this medal represents: excellence, consistency and an unwavering commitment to our club. Ladies, Gentlemen and Bears, please give it up for the first ever four time Mateflon Medalist, the one and only, Cap!

Ladies, gentlemen and Bears, before we announce our Best Club Player, I need to address the... interesting geographical spread of our voting panel. Apparently, the Bears' influence reaches far and wide – we received votes from Latvia, Luxembourg, Romania, Turkey, the UK, and the USA. We even got a vote from the Gulf of Guinea in the Atlantic Ocean. Now, either we've become the most internationally diverse team in SFA history, or some of you might have gotten a sponsorship with Nord VPN. But hey, who are we to question the global reach of Bears nation?

And now, to the moment you’ve all been waiting for: the announcement of our Best Club Player.

This year, the honour goes to someone who’s truly earned it – Art Vandelay_

First, let me confess: I tried to check if this season was Art’s highest posting output ever. But after realising I’d have to dig through over a decade of archives, I decided that my time was better spent... well, doing literally anything else. So, let’s just say it probably is and move on.

Now, Art might always find himself playing second fiddle to Matera92, but this award is proof that his teammates wanted to give him a taste of what it’s like to be the star of the show. And let’s be honest, Art deserves it.

He’s been an incredible teammate, lighting up match threads with sharp wit and engaging banter, while also keeping things lively and entertaining in the team PM. Art knows how to bring people together, whether it’s with a clever comment or just making everyone laugh.

So please, put your hands together and let’s celebrate our Season 38 Best Club Player, Art Vandelay_!

Checking the leaderboard for the final time we see Cap has finished with a flourish, winning by 12 votes from Chipmunk. Last season's winner Millky95 claims third with 35 votes, SSSSSS finishes an impressive fourth in his debut season, with Tony (25 votes) and RonnieRaven completing the top six. Meanwhile, Bears Hall of Famers Art Vandelay_ and Matera92 couldn't be separated, both finishing on 14 votes.

Ladies, Gentlemen and Bears, it's time for the Captain's Award, or as I like to call it, the "Who Made Me The Best Offer" Award. After carefully considering all bribes, I mean nominations, I'm pleased to announce that Chipmunk's offer to split his winter stash of nuts was simply too good to refuse.

But in all seriousness, choosing a winner for this award was genuinely difficult. We have so many Bears who contribute enormously to our club, making this decision anything but straightforward.

However, Chipmunk's contributions this season have been exceptional. From his tireless work in the Leadership Group to his instrumental role in recruiting our newest rookie Bear, he's been a driving force behind the scenes. His match reports have become must read material, though I suspect he writes them between setting odds at ChippyBet. Speaking of which, I should mention that this speech is officially sponsored by ChippyBet: "Where the nuts are always on the line!"

Joking aside, Chipmunk exemplifies what this award represents; dedication, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to making our club better.
Please join me in congratulating Chipmunk, our Captain's Award winner for Season 38!

Awww thanks 😍

A genuine pleasure to log in and see what’s happening with the team - apart from sim results of course 😂

To next season!

You won the best award.
Far better than a frying pan dedicated to a talentless slug.

Can’t think of any other way to use that award 😂

Nope … no other function.

Bears have got the hypothetical SFA Chess Championships in the bag with Chippy as well. Onya mate!

Capppaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

The great dancing bear! What a feat - one every three seasons for 9 seasons - how's the consistency! You dominate on the field, and in threads keep things flowing and yet satisfyingly off-beat. Not to mention a fantastic teammate and chat around the club. A very cherished Bear and a behemoth of Sweet.

Congratulations Cap. With such fine form expect a Song Contest tag any day now!

Ladies, Gentlemen and Bears as we wrap up another Bears Best and Fairest night, let's take one final moment to congratulate all of our award winners. Though I suspect most of them stopped listening after receiving their awards and are now focused on the free food and booze.

I want to thank everyone for coming tonight and making this such a special evening. Your enthusiasm and engagement, both during the season and tonight, is what makes the Bears such a unique club and so great. Although, given those voting locations, I'm still not entirely sure where some of you actually are.

A special thanks goes to the Leadership Group, whose hard work behind the scenes this season and in preparing tonight’s event deserves a standing ovation. Well, maybe just a polite clap. No need to go overboard, we’re Bears, not seals. But seriously without your guys this job would be a hell of a lot harder for me and I couldn't do it without you all.

To everyone here, I hope you've had a fantastic night celebrating our club's achievements. As we look ahead to Season 39, remember: win, lose or draw, at least we’re not Norf!

Now go, enjoy your night, and remember: what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. Unless it’s a really good story, then it ends up in the team PM.

Go Bears! 🐾

Thank god its finally over, oh crap my mic's still on.
