Dunkley was a chance to go to Port?

How are they selling the farm? They aren’t using this years first anyway and next years could be devalued by a deficit . $650-700k isn’t extortionate wages either.

Agreed. Next years first is devalued due to possible deficit. In that context 15 and fr1 with later points back the other way is ok.

I don’t think Port were ever a sniff to be honest. It seems like they were used by Pickering purely to secure a better contract offers from the Lions and Dogs.

Simply came down to living in Melbourne and continuing the status quo at the Dogs or moving to the sunshine state and taking up completely new lifestyle for his future.

I'm not sure if there's a limit on the deficit carrying over. They'd always be able to bring some other picks into this year if they had to. Would have to work out all the approximate point values to figure it out.

Ultimately it's their problem to solve, I'm sure we'd help if it means a good deal for us but it's really on them to find the currency somewhere if they're going to go shopping for high value targets ina year they have so much tied up in bid matching.

Except Lions only have 15, 33, 44, 69
15 is gone for Dunkley.

Leaving Lions with a combined 974 points.

They need 2250 for Ashcroft
Potential 2nd round bid on Fletcher, let's say 450 points bringing it to a total of 2700 points required.

If Dogs pick 29 comes back (673 points)
We're now at Lions having 1647 points.

McStay compo will probably be 2nd round.
Lions have to go into deficit next year, does anyone know if there is a cap?

Do you know if there is a cap on going into deficit?

Cant find anything on it.

Just reminded of the ability to go into deficit the year after for father son bids, should be fine then
I'm pretty sure the limit on how much deficit you can carry on a matched bid is based on the value of all your future picks if you were to finish first the following year.
If you don't have enough future points based on a projected finish of first you can't match the bid.

2 first rounders seems like a lot. He'll never be you best player, but he'll be consistently top 5.

A 1st and 2nd for me is fair.

If Ashcroft and Fletcher both get bid on first round, our 2022 first gets wiped and 2023 first goes into deficit. We are in a unique position in this draft period, so we'll trade them off for Dunkley and try to make up points using multiple lower picks in return.

He basically steps into the Lyons role and conveniently gets to inherit the #5 from Mitch Robinson (unless you choose to retire his number).

I’ll miss the back half of 2019 and first 6 games of 2021 Dunkley when he was an absolute brute in the contest. Hasn’t reached those levels since (despite an impressive 2022) and I sure won’t miss him lining for goal 40m out and not making the distance (he makes McCluggage look like Plugger kicking for goal).

So, he sounds like he is not worth much then

You’re not making sound like a great pick up and to think Dogs wants 2 first round picks for Dunkley

Reckon Brisbane's first this year (15, becoming 16) plus next year's first (assume 15/16) is fair all round.

Lions can trade down their Mcstay compo (19?) for points (Suns being the obvious party).
My guess is the McStay compo will be 2nd round, so pick 38 or so.

???

Do you follow footy? Lyons is in our VFL side.

I don't think its out of the question that the Lions apply for a priority pick from the AFL to get over the line on points.

This is fair given that north just got one. I think we deserve one given how long we've waited to win a prelim
