Rumour GFC 2025 Player Trading, Drafting FA, Rumours and Wish lists Pt 1

Thank for the jungle drums ...

Nice to be linked to players ..but hard to see how we get these all done.

To me Reid would have to have a full blown JHF meltdown to be traded while in contract especially if Warner stays at the Swans.

One would think any chance of Reid in 26 would require a hat trick of top20/top10 picks .. and getting Rowell also would require substantial future picks. They seem mutually exclusive deals…. unless we lost a player that enabled to gain extra picks.

100% mutually exclusive. It’s either one of those without the other. That’s where free agents in 2026 come in but I don’t want to get too far ahead with it because even reaching for the end of the season at this point is tough. Nothing locked in, yet.

My understanding is that Oliver is unlikely. He reported some things back to Melbourne after meeting some of our players. I'll leave it at that

Been told we are a very good chance on JUH.

My source is part of the list management team at another Melbourne club.

We are hearing the same thing about JUH then. And interesting what you’ve said about Oliver. One of my good sources used to play with Oliver and he was adamant Oliver wanted us badly. If they keep losing, it will sour again.

Three things I’ve got to relay after my lunch today.

We are still trying to find a way for Reid. The belief is he wants us but having the assets while he’s under contract seems basically impossible right now.

In spite of what Twomey has said today about Rowell staying we are still in deep talks with Rowell’s management and my source is confident this is the one most likely to happen.

They are the two main plays here. Obviously both can’t co-exist. The Rowell move makes more sense just in terms of him being out of contract.

I’ve spoken to my source from Melbourne. Oliver is doing his best and been focussed but if the opportunity arose again, he would again request a trade to us. So maybe if Demons completely bomb this year, who knows…

And the big one is, my mate is confident on JUH. Sees us more viable than Sydney to land him. A lot to play out but he believes there is zero percent chance he stays at Dogs. The issue will be what they ask for him at the trade table.

Also, we continue asking the question of how happy Bont is.. not sure why this isn’t a story yet.

Gee, you or your mate have just put a finger in every pie.
A broken clock is accurate twice a day.

I think Fishgutz is a good poster, and presents info as he / she hears it.

I don't think anything said is unrealistic.

It'd be due diligence on the part of the club to put a finger in every pie, and as conceded in the post, it's unlikely our enquiry re: Reid will bear fruit.

Rowell is quite possible, and JUH might be a freebie. Nothing controversial there.

That the door is still ajar for Oliver is interesting and a mild surprise, and if you never ask the question you'll never know, so Bont is as good as any to ask.

I'm liking the idea the club is casting its net far and wide.

Thats up to you if you believe the players in question.
Of course we cast a net.

I still maintain that we dont have 20 mil for Reid. We'd kill everything.
Gee, we couldn't even meet the Melbourne demands for Oliver. And he wanted us.

Time and further evidence will determine what I believe, but what's been said isn't inconceivable and is worth listening to at least imo.

We're doing our due diligence with Reid - it'd be negligent not to - but Fishgutz does qualify this with the comment that it's virtually impossible for us to meet Reid's asking price atm.

Rowell is realistic, as is JUH. Who knows with Oliver?

And Fishgutz does say we can't do them all. It comes down to who rises to the top once we've finished stirring the pot.

I see no way JUH can get to Geelong. They’re obviously filthy at us for the Smith deal, we would be the last person they listen to in regards to a trade for him. Him being in contract makes it pretty impossible unless we give up more than he’s worth (which is rock bottom imo).

Too many targets, and we can only get one.
1. Bont
2. Rowell (probably fits us better but simply can't say no to Bont)
3. Oliver
4. Reid
5. JUH

CATS OPEN TALKS AS 'PRE-AGENCY' RAMPS UP

GEELONG has opened talks with star small forward and key 2025 'pre-agent' Gryan Miers on a new deal, with clubs already beginning to turn their attentions towards next year's star-studded free agency crop.
Pre-agency refers to the group of players on the verge of being one year out from free agency and has become a key part of the trade landscape, with players often using it to explore their options or as leverage in contract discussions.
Miers, who is contracted to the end of 2026 when he will hit free agency for the first time, is among the best 'pre-agents' on the market this year but has already kicked off negotiations on an extension at GMHBA Stadium.

Id see some sort of funnel approach ..its starts wide but narrows as players fall out of being tangible options till there is only one real trade target. Id not be surprised if none happen.

I feel like Miers is low key one of the fundamental building blocks of Geelong footy. Dunno what we would do without him

If the Doggies want him out and he says he will only go to us... Then he gets to us every day of the week... Easy.

Ben Rongdit joins Lindsay in the AFL Academy.
The 184cm Sudanese defender’s leap is off the charts and he regularly produces moments of brilliance with his athleticism.

It isn’t just Rongdit who is tied to the Cats. Hybrid marking forward Jesse Mellor, who was born in Thailand, also trained with Geelong over the summer. He is the son of former Richmond assistant coach Greg Mellor.

Depends on the price. I would back our club culture and leaders to be able to give him the best chance to thrive on and off the field. Think getting the dogs to trade him to us would be the hard part.
Especially JUH, with his troubles.. you wouldn't want to give up much in a trade..
To high risk

He is still contracted for next year, so there are no guarantees.

At the moment you’d be getting cents on the dollar for trading JUH. So there’s not much incentive for the dogs to do a deal.

What do you mean "no incentive".

He is on 900k and not playing and has all kinds of issues going on.

He is only worth cents on the dollar... You ain't getting paid for this guy if you want him out.

I doubt the club wants to cling on to that just to get a little bit more in a trade.

Believe all that and I think Oliver wants to come but now he's playing well ship has sailed melb won't allow it.

On Rowell I can see why we want-i think he will sign for 2 years with gc but who knows.

On Reid I'm sure he does want to come here but without trading humphries (which we won't do if we are smart) there's no way to pull it off until he's ooc so you revisit in 12 months. The issue is if we do big trades this year it will wipe most of our currency to trade for Reid the year after.

I can see us wanting JUH but after smuth I think they will ask for too much and we won't pay.
