You might prefer Higgins but it surely couldn’t be based on the last month’s form? Higgins has been very ordinary.
Don’t agree. He’s been solid.

I'll happily take more ordinary form from midfielders if they're averaging 23 disposals, 6.25 marks & 5 tackles a game

Quality is sometimes more important than quantity, and for mine, his possessions haven't been overly influential or damaging.

Was just about to say the same. Has no penetration in his kicking. Set shots have been terrible. Even his field kicking has been so so…

Depending on how much credence you give to these ratings, Narkle had his season best game while Higgins was good for Collingwood. :roflv1:

Over the past month one of them has averaged 23 disposals, 6.25 marks & 5 tackles per game, while the other has averaged 21 disposals, 3.75 marks and 2.25 tackles

So if I'm basing the decision on the past month, then yes I'm selecting Higgins over Narkle - if focusing on just the past 2 matches it becomes a tougher decision
Don't forget that one of them failed to shepherd for or communicate with one of our best players so that he got absolutely smashed in a tackle resulting in him missing the rest of the game and the game after that.

To be fair (if you're talking about Higgins) it was always going to take time to eliminate the North Melbourne in him

This forum is like a cult. People actually defending the dropping of a youngster who has shown great form in recent games while we continue to play Dalhaus (seriously, look up his stats this year), Higgins (occasional nice skills but not needed along with Smith and Duncan), Menegola (coasting so far in 2021), Atkins (honest trier but more upside in playing Narkle).

Some of you have apparently forgotten how Geelong got to be good in 2007. Multiple younger players allowed to develop through some ups and downs over the preceding years. Players like Narkle will apparently never get that chance because it's more important that we play Higgins and Dalhaus every game so that they can fail in finals for us.

Also people apparently familiar with football who seem to believe that you can only select ins and outs on a precise like-for-like basis.

Face the evidence, which is that the club has actively chosen to completely abandon the development of younger players in the senior side unless forced to play them by sheer necessity. If Harry Taylor hadn't retired I bet we wouldn't even be playing Jack Henry. Narkle's manager will be on the phone to other clubs tonight and rightly so.

I wouldn't be playing Danger. Prefer he had another week. By his own admission he still isn't 100%.

I think you’ll find his “admission he still isn’t 100%” refers to the fact that it will take a few games to be back to the full match fitness only playing an AFL game can bring. More weeks off won’t solve that issue.

Do people really think it works like this? That unless you play the exact same role you're not competing for a spot? Come on.

Well the MC clearly don't want him anywhere else but on the inside otherwise they would have made space for him. Could have pulled any of our small forwards or shuffled Tuohy back and let one of our low possession small defender out but chose not to.

Ill reserve judgement until we see teams tonight, but if Zac Guthrie remains in the side while Narkle gets dropped im coming back here to melt.
He's failed down back this year and last game they tried him on the wing (again) where he predictably failed in spectacular fashion. He's versatile though so maybe he gets thrown up forward to kick a bag.

If both Dangerfield or O’Connor are ordinary coming off long breaks when we have a fit, in form Narkle sitting on the couch, I’ll bloody spew. The news of his omission is making me fume. Taking two underdone players into an interstate match against a top contender is absolutely insane and arrogant. And I bet it comes back to bite us on the arse. Scott owns this selection brain fart.

Lots of rain this week in Adelaide, he could at least do us a favour and misread the radar again and drop Stanley.

Its in the Guthrie Family contract, clause 256 (C) There must always be a Guthrie in the AFL First team
