Swings and roundabouts.I suspect a lot would be data driven. Eg statistical record is worse against offies going around.
But in subcontinent, I like it, if the good part of the pitch is offering some turn, it threatens lbw more and thus outside edge as they have to be genuinely trying to hit it.
Could say the same for Cooper (and McSweeney, maybe). These two may be the backbone our team for the next decade if things go right for them. I have no problem with giving them a taste then having them step back. Gives them the hunger. As I said, I'd play Cooper in Sri Lanka as his spin provides a point of difference, they want someone who spins the ball the other way to Lyon and Murphy. Konstas can come back in for the Windies games, more Tests with no consequence and experience on offer.Have to play Konstas, surely. It's a free hit - play two tests in the subcontinent with no consequence if we lose. Even if he fails four times, he (and selectors and coaches) will learn a bucketload from the experience.
I think they'll go younger. A back up to get experience on tour and in Asian conditions who might play if conditions make Boland ineffective.
I'm hoping it's Sangha or Pope, but Rocchicolli if it is purely back up.
Tell me you haven't watched Shield this year without telling me you haven't watched Shield this year.Sangha isn't ready yet and pope is an absolute spud at FC level.

Nah. He's developed nicely in their grade system. He was excellent against Victoria, won them the game. Has developed more control, his leg spinner is a lot more dangerous than it previously was, which in turn makes his googly (which was already threatening) much more dangerous too. He's not the finished product but you can see how he'll get there.Oh no I've watched him I just look beyond stat's. As I said spud.
As someone who moved over from SL to Aus 20 years ago more and more Aussies seem to know more about Sri Lanka and more and more have visited sri lanka. when I went back in late 2022 post economic and tourist numbers being really low, I came across more Aussie tourists there than I did in the 2000’s.The more accessible options (Bali, Singapore, Thailand, etc) makes it difficult to justify going there for many, particularly families. It’s not really somewhere you “pass through” either. The old marketing on Channel 9, even led by Tony who loved the place was just a few plane shots. SL tourism could do a lot worse than tap into the Australian market using cricket as a vehicle. I’d be more than happy for the government and even Fox to subsidise some of the advertising cost, just an incredible place. If there was some resultant demand for it I’ve always thought a flight Perth to Colombo then onto Maldives would be commercially viable.
