The NSW fan boys in the media got their way. Maybe the practice wickets are garbage over there but wouldn't have thought it is the worst thing for him to experience some different conditions even if not playing.
He's only played 13 first class games and will be playing in Lords facing seamers in June. He's just had a two or three week crash course in batting in Asian conditions and will be better prepared for ruture tours if he's still in the running for them. I think it's good that he's gone back to have another game against seamers.

Selectors could've easily gone with Konatas over Labuschagne to give him experience in Asia but it shows just how desperate Aussies are to win in SL for the first time since 2011. We were in this exact same position last tour, so expect us to come out equally fired up for the 2nd test. Will be much tougher on this wicket, esp if we lose the toss.

I don't know if it's necessarily desperation. Don't we always pick our best available team? It always seemed unlikely that a bloke with so little experience would get picked to play on his first tour of Asia, or impress more than Uzzy or Labuschagne. He would have had to take to it like a duck to water.

SL will bat batter. They had a shocker. They're much better than that.

Will keep an eye out for Konstas in the lounge pre flight. Sounds like he had a shithouse tour, being dropped and struck down by gastro, so he is prob rapt to be coming home

Edit. Think it's only $25 for the lounge so a good option for those here for the cricket

Given the demolition job that was the first test i reckon we do have the luxury to bring back in Konstas to give him some experience in the conditions, but selectors sticking firm -- which i am all for.

Thats an option Luke...Joel Curtis scored another ton for Perth Grade cricket on the weekend ....good replacement for Inglis if that happens and he plays as a pure bat

Exactly what should occur push Inglis to 4/5 and Curtis in to keep

So what about Connolly ?? if Sam Konstas being sent home no reason for Cooper to hang around if not playing

There just in case there’s an issue with a spinner same with McSweeney there to cover the bats. Abbott to cover the quicks. Surprised they haven’t sent a quick home too they aren’t playing more than one and you only need one spare

In this case they have done the best of both worlds- he’s had a month to learn. Now comes back and doesn’t miss a Shield game

One big positive about Curtis is that he's only just turned 25. If Carey keeps going for another few years, blokes like Inglis will already be 32-33 themselves, whereas Curtis (if he's remotely in contention for bigger things) would still have close a decade ahead of him.

All of that channel changing shits me, got even worse with the women's test on, rain delays etc etc, real first world problem of course.

But you missed the Chase

We got into an issue thinking this way and ended up with Wade costing us test matches with the gloves. Please no. Pick the best keeper with flat wickets these days it’s horrible if your keeper is iffy. Now if Inglis keeps for WA and is better than Carey with the gloves I’m all ears but we should not be picking guys as a keeper for their batting ability only.
England learned that lessen with with Bairstow keeping....

Yep, look lets not think Carey is McGrath with the bat either he was 48 n.o last test too, if we batted on he'd have nearly made a hundred too, and he was good with the bat in our home summer. I love Inglis I do but we aren't playing two keepers away from Asia where you need your best players of spin playing.

Pitches are so flat these days in general as boards want matches going 4 plus days now whether the batting is good enough to do that is a completely other question but that's what the board wants. Why are we wanting to have to take 22-23 wickets when your keeper fluffs 2 a test. It makes no sense, I'm taking slightly less runs if it means we aren't dropping catches with the gloves. First and foremost your job is with the gloves. We were very spoilt when we had Gilchrist who was outstanding at both disciplines but can we stop trying to get the next Gilchrist every time. Did we forget how Wade lost us test matches...

If you care to make your way this way gents.

Sri Lanka just have to turn out a tricky spinning pitch - they're not going to get 20 wickets otherwise. I'm of the view that you don't play kids until you think they're ready. To me, it was always a long shot that he'd show enough for the selectors to think he'd be ready for conditions so foreign to what he'd experienced.
