Sorry, my mate from Melbourne sent me that. They all think it's incredibly racist. Glad to get an alternative opinion
Have you informed your mate that this is a language commonly spoken in aboriginal communities across northern Australia? There would be similar translators when non-aboriginal staff from Department of Communities or WA Country Health travel into closed Kimberley communities.

I sure hope they aren't the type of people who constantly moan about lefties accusing people of being racist, considering how quickly they were to assume that a harmless video intended to increase vaccination in remote communities was "incredibly racist."

Thanks champ, if I wanted to hear an arseh*le....

Have you ever had something to do other than bigfooty. I kind of feel sorry for you.
Chill, mate.

In answer to flu deaths , this part of the world you cannot visit a nursing home unless you have a current flu shot . So flu deaths are not acceptable here . Before Omicron some countries including China , Australia , New Zealand , reigned the virus in to basically 0. That showed it could be beaten by everyone isolating for 2 weeks at once with essential workers wearing masks and following strict protocols . Saving lives can't be best achieved because we don't have 1 United World Government and we don't have obedient subjects who would stay still for 2 weeks . The fragmented government leaders will try and find their own way to deal with it .

Cheers

In the first post you mention "flu deaths are not acceptable here" due to not being able to visit nursing unless you have a current flu shot, that as we see is a Covid times instigated measure. As a society we've probably learned a lot about how we haven't done enough to protect some vulnerable groups in the past but it also demonstrates that we (everyone in this thread) accepted that a certain number of the elderly & immuno compromised are going to die of or with the flu. It seems that with Covid there seems to be a thought by some that it's totally unacceptable that anyone should die of it regardless of the other societal costs.

Oh boy, Dan Bongino. RWNJ is right. He probably has some of the dumbest followers/listeners on the planet.

Kimberley Kriol (or more broadly, Aboriginal Kriol) is fairly widely spoken and it's good for the premier and interpreters to team up and try to increase vaccination rates in remote communities. This is obviously targeted at Kimberley communities, but Kriol is spoken throughout indigenous areas in the Kimberley, NT and far north QLD. It's a pidgin language, basically a bastardised version of English, but people who speak it would have a much easier time understanding the translator than they would the Premier. The language is spoken as a primary or secondary language by thousands of people in remote communities.

Not that Danny Bongos and his far-right fans would have any understanding of Australia, the Kimberley, the language, or aboriginal culture(s).
That just looks stupid and condescending. Add whatever words you like. Has done it with all his various 2.3m captives but it looks more and more like his latest nonsense is a break out issue.

The actual Petition has been corrupted due to those who didn't read the Doctors request. However the awareness it would have generated means those within the health system with similar views have a central point of contact, so in that regard it's probably been very effective

It also lets people claim that thousands of doctors are against McGowan. Not with any factual basis, but that hasn’t mattered for some time.

Fine though for McGowan to claim that "Australia with an average of almost 5000 hospitalised a day since the start of the year with Covid". Not with any factual basis, but that hasn’t mattered for some time.

It was two weeks ago, it's already been discussed and is a complete non-issue
Agreed. That interpretation stunt was just cringe. Pathetic and condescending. His vax dictates, threats, divisionary politics then betrayal this week is a bigger issue. Well done many of the medical profession for distancing themselves. The whole world is moving in the opposite direction to this bloke and luckily people have finally started to wake up.

I don't know how to crunch the numbers properly without manually doing it, but it appears the 5000 in hospital nationwide since the start of the year may only be slightly off the mark - we've exceeded 5000 for the past week.

Announcement was made on Thursday the 20th, we'd had 3 days over 5k.

I doubt very much he came up with it himself, was probably asked to do it.
Most places went the opposite direction to him and us over the last couple of years, has worked out pretty well so far

Even if you scrub off the last four days, you still have a fair few days of 4000-5000+. It was also entirely reasonable and logical to surmise that hospitalisations would be not be dipping any time soon (and it hasn't so far).

There are plenty of legitimate complaints about his handling of the pandemic but this is not really the 'gotcha!' moment some are hoping for.

Just spoke with an doctor about this, let's just say she wasn't very supportive of the poll.

That's means all doctors are against this poll of course.

When Mark made this claim Australia had a couple of days of 5000 hospital admissions but at the time the average for Jan was 3700

I would also say quoting 10 or so people in the poll who obviously aren't Dr's invalidates all of the rest of the 6000 signatures in the poll (whom the creator specifically asked be Dr's only)

It's not about a gotcha, this was in the announcement giving the reasons why the border opening had to be delayed, a decision that impacts in some way nearly all of us. It was a time for reasons with factual backing.

Would you have been at ease if he said '3000 hospitalisations on average per day since the start of the year' or '5000 hospitalisations per day these past few days?'

I posted, as examples, four screenshots each of four consecutive signatories to the petition, none of the 16 were doctors.

That doesn’t mean only 16 non-doctors signed. It means that there were large swathes of non-doctors that signed. Large enough that if you take a group of four at random, there was a good chance they were all non-doctors.

Yeah we can see that by looking at the table but you do realise this isn't any substantial ground to stand on as pointed out by another poster?

It's neither here nor there, more a fact that polls where any numpty can vote on should be taken with a grain of salt, whether it suits your argument or not.

FFS it wasn't a stunt. He was asked to do it by the Aboriginal Health Council of WA, which was trying to increase outreach into remote communities. The woman in the video translated from Australian English to Kriol, which is spoken as a primary or secondary language by thousands of aboriginal people in remote communities across the Kimberley and other areas in northern Australia. The fact that you think it was cringeworthy and condescending just shows that you don't actually know anything about the language or the people who speak it.
