End of 1st round that has to be traded would be an ideal priority pick
Unless Chad signs and we have no one to use it on.

A savvy club will throw together a bunch of VFL level players and say here's 3 players that will fit straight into your 22 for pick 17 please.

North got ripped off with basically all their PP's cos they had to trade them which diminished their value.

Future 2nd/3rd = Logue and Tucker (TUCKER1)
2x F1 and the end of the round was involved in some covoluted trade that got them Fisher and Dylan Stephens or something.

North just ended up strengthening Sydney and Carlton more than helping themselves IMO.

What is your ideal trade scenario.

My ideal pp would be a pp with no provisions on it.

The ideal is the GCS package.

But to be serious, I think a pick 11 and F1 at the end of the round in 2026 is reasonable and two extra rookie spots.

If you are Oscar though, surely you choose Brisbane over Hawthorn yeah?

Brisbane a better team, better place to live, a more defined role that suits his current game play

Feels like a no brainer to me
Seriously?

Melbourne is a much better city
Much more opportunity post football in Melbourne
Hawks are the media love child

If we don't get band 1, I assume we would just match the Oscar offer because it wouldn't be that big
100% and that’s why it will be band 1.

They ain’t flying over or having meetings with him to get him to commit to then pay less then what triggers band 1 and have to trade their own draft assets to get a deal done and him go through all that drama.

Get your head in the game, you've got a far greater responsibility than that.
We'll give you until COB Friday to deliver a full clunge report.
Now I know why I wasn't on to this sooner.
Went to see the MIL today and on examining the name on the door across the corridor there was no name Warner to be seen. Turns out this must be the grandfather on the mother's side. How was I to know? 🤔

How would it work if the Eagles finished last in 2025?

Are we talking about the possibilty of the Eagles getting Picks 1 & 2 if Oscar walks, and Pick 3 for Priority Assistance?
There is far better people on this forum that can explain it but I will try

AFAIK - If Oscar decides to leave, and the offer from Club X matches Band 1 compensation, we will be compensated. A pick will be allocated after your first round. However it has to meet the requirements for Band 1 compensation.

This is the bullshit called AFL - NO ONE ****ING KNOWS THE FORMULA, its not transparent
"Compensation in the form of AFL allocated draft picks will apply to clubs with a net loss of Free Agents, based on the formula determined by the AFL."

So yes if we finish 18, and it meets the formula eagles will have Picks 1 and 2.

Regarding priority assistance
AFL determined that Gold Coast would receive the following; This is based on the last five years leading into the decision and where GCS finished 2014 - 12, 2015 -16, 2016 -15, 2017 -17, 2018 - 17
  • Pick #1 (Matt Rowell) and first pick of the second round (currently pick #20 - I dont know what player was selected here or if it was traded) in the 2019 NAB AFL Draft.
  • Mid-first round pick (currently pick #11- I dont know what player was selected here or if it was traded) in the 2020 NAB AFL Draft.
  • First pick of the second round (currently pick #19- I dont know what player was selected here or if it was traded) in the 2021 NAB AFL Draft.
The AFL has given the Kangaroos a second-round pick and third-round pick for 2023 on the proviso they are traded for at least one player, as well as granting the Roos two extra list spots. The AFL doubled down again and provided North Melbourne
The League confirmed North Melbourne will receive the following:
  • One end-of-first round selection in the 2023 AFL Draft (currently pick 19)
  • Two end-of-first round selections in the 2024 AFL Draft (currently picks 19 and 20)
  • The continuation of the club’s ability to have two additional rookie list spots in season 2024

This is based on the last five years leading into the decision and where North Melbourne finished 2019 - 12, 2020 -17, 2021-18, 2022 -18, 2023- 17

Eagles in the last five years in comparison have finished: 2019 - 5, 2020 -5, 2021-9, 2022 -17, 2023- 18, 2024- 19.

Do I believe the AFL will give us the Gold Coast Package? No, they haven't even given us North Melbourne's assistance Package of an additional second round and third round. But like any good industry super, comparing the pair I would have to say we sure as **** deserve ****ing something.....I'll put my left nut on it we wont finish higher than 16 for Season 2025. So I think the comparison is fair IMO.

Based on those numbers , I think it would be line ball if the Eagles get it finishing 18th this season.

If I am reading right:

* The Roos in the last 5 seasons before they got their priority pick , their average ladder position was (12+17+18+18+17)/5=16.4

* If the Eagles finish last, the average ladder position would be : (9+17+18+18+18)/5=14.4

Every rule in the AFL gets exploited to the nth degree. They'd be silly to let anyone know what it is.

This is how it should work:

1. How long the contract is and how much it is for (total and average per year), determines band
2. Then a pub test. Is this player really worth that? Are the clubs trying to game the FA system? Or are they paying overs because of the market or other factors?
3. Do we need to overrule our formula and change band?
4. Where is the OG club sitting on the ladder? If they're near the bottom, should we be giving them a top 5 pick for a probably 200 game soldier who if traded would net pick 20-25?

I also don't think they should allow compo into the top 5 picks. If you have to, add extra picks elsewhere. And, I don't like the compo being tied to a club's pick.

There’s no way the AFL give us meaningful priority assistance if we already have two top picks in the draft.

Just can’t see it happening.
WC floundering at the bottom of the ladder for 10 years is AFL HQ's dream scenario. There's no way they are giving us a leg up when we're the richest club in the country

GCS finished 2014 - 12, 2015 -16, 2016 -15, 2017 -17, 2018 - 17

North Melbourne finished 2019 - 12, 2020 -17, 2021-18, 2022 -18, 2023- 17

Eagles in the last five years in comparison have finished: 2019 - 5, 2020 -5, 2021-9, 2022 -17, 2023- 18, 2024- 16.

Good post. That makes me think we are probably looking at an additional bad finish in 2026 before we'd be considered.

Obvious problem with that is we enter compromised draft world.

Regardless of what the AFL does I would hope the club is putting together a strong case for one this year. I suspect if you looked at the value of picks we've received since 2022 there are several clubs with better finishes ahead of us due to how compromised the draft is. That's the analysis I'd be using for the argument.

Haven't seen the Oscar interview. But hearing he didn't express inkling of staying.

I'm so happy last time I cried of happiness was when TB left. Lets gooo

Clarke may have saved wce by getting picks for Oscar and tb. In Clarke I trust

He said he wants to stay.
