Why is everyone so annoyed. Tb didn't get as much blowback.

The wce nuffies better not end up bullying Oscar into extending.

Christ inb4 Oscar comes to the media and says he's an Eagles for life unless wce pull the rug

So When Shuey was captain I was pretty hard on him and had called him the worst captain we have probably had to date.

I think I might need to take that mantle off Boots and give it to OA.

&^#% Me, We just lost our third match for the year in a row, Lost a Derby in poor fashion.
He didn't do any media and then sneaks off to have meetings with an oppo coach?
From a player pov what a shit thing to do, you're 3 games in to a new gameplan and coach and are preaching buy in to the kids at the club while racing for the exit.

He was supposed to do the Coast to Coast pody but bailed on it, wonder if he had "prior commitments"

At least boots was 100% in, even on the pine he was all in and you could see it and hear it.
The leadership from both Duggen but especially OA has been well below what is required.

Give it to Ginbey and Hough, at least both those boys will go 110% and don't make excuses.

From a contract POV, He can go and get us Band 1.
Looks like Pyke finally has that stick out of the clubs ass and is looking at Priority picks as well.

For those that are in the "it's just a business" camp. I thought we were sick of the "the club is a business" stuff and wanted to get back to winning games and being a footy club again? It's all well and good to ensure you are looking after yourself and family but if you want success there sometimes is compromises made, players taking less to fit other players on the list purely for success. that kind of stuff. Gov taking less, Hurn taking less to ensure they could retain talent. If players only look after themselves then you just end up at Carlton, get paid well but be garbage for an eternity.

We were harsh for sure but it’s a little different. Barass was upfront and honest. He did this with our blessing. Our so called captain is doing squirrel meetings behind our backs without telling us.

How do we know about this oscar meeting?

Are hawks leaking like a sieve to put pressure on their target?

Or are they literally meeting out in public for everyone to see.

I feel like we're constantly told who Mitchell is meeting - feels like a strategy for them.
I was just about to post this. I suspect Hawks are leaking to create a wedge.

Damien Barrett can eat a big a dicks.

For the record...

Oscar Allen deserves a fair clip. You form has been completely shit. Nothing screams "I've checked out", than meeting with a potential suitor three games into the season. You're the ****ing captain for chrissakes. Plus, it's 2025 ffs, can't you catchup with Mitchell online?

But Damien Barrett? Yeah, you can still go eat a bag of dicks.

We won't be lectured to by the likes of you.

Not sure Hawks would risk leaking it as it might put Oscar off i would have thought?
OA shot himself in the foot here, captain meeting other clubs after a derby smashing when dewar has more disposals and goals than him? Hes all but killed any good faith from wce fans towards him with this imho. He stays and captains a club with everyone knowing he was trying to leave and is hated, or leaves to hawthorn and is hated

Trying to think of the last time a captain was traded from their club to another club. The last one I can think of was Geelongs Leigh Colbert when he wanted to move to a premiership contender, back then in North Melbourne.

Fair to say Geelongs fans weren't too happy with him.

The treatment of Oscar Allen by some supporters on this subforum has been disappointing, to say the least. Oscar has been one of the club's most committed players, he consistently puts his body on the line in games. In fact, aside from Jeremy McGovern, no one has the on field balls to do what he's done for our club over the years. been as dedicated to the club’s cause over the past few seasons as Oscar Hang your head in shame you Kents! Fickle fans seem to have turned on him.

For a player like Oscar, who has given so much to the club, it’s disheartening to see some supporters so quick to push him out the door. It’s easy to forget that players like Oscar are at the mercy of both their managers and the club, and when things are not aligning contract-wise, it's a business decision—nothing personal.

If he decides to leave, we should respect that, wish him the best of luck, and let him chase his own success. If that means he ends up at the Hawks, then fine. At least we'd likely get a band one compensation pick, which, in the long term, would benefit the club.

However, some of the comments posted on the forum are a sad reflection of the modern mentality that sees players as commodities to be traded or disposed of at will. Take, for instance, the harsh sentiments expressed by users like GoEaglesGoSGIO, who openly state that Oscar should be stripped of his captaincy and dropped for even thinking about his future beyond West Coast. This kind of knee-jerk reaction only fosters an environment of disrespect for players who, day in and day out, put their bodies and hearts on the line for the club.

Additionally, the suggestion that Oscar should be punished because he met with another club's coach is absurd. As several users pointed out, meetings like these are a part of how the AFL industry operates in 2025. They are a way for players to make informed decisions about their futures, even if those conversations are uncomfortable for fans to see. The real issue lies with the club’s handling of the contract negotiation, not with Oscar, who is merely navigating the business side of football.

If Oscar does decide to leave, we shouldn’t view it as an act of betrayal. He’s been one of our hardest-bravest players, and if his best option lies elsewhere, then so be it. There’s a chance we’ll get a pick 1 or pick 2 in return, which could help us rebuild quicker than expected. And to those who might still feel bitter about him possibly leaving for the Hawks: consider this...What other options do we have? Do we hold on to a player for the sake of pride, or do we look to the future and make decisions that benefit the club in the long run?

The treatment of Oscar Allen by some of the WCE supporters is a low point. If we want to remain a successful club, it’s crucial that we support our players, especially those who have shown time and time again they’re ready to give everything for the jumper. If Oscar decides to leave, we can only thank him for his contributions, and hope that whatever happens, the club comes out stronger for it.
Just to let you know, we were a successful club.. there is nothing the club has done the past 7 years 5 years that show we are anything other than a rabble, more interested in social causes, virtue signalling and hugging everyone instead of making the hard calls which should have been made be it on players, coach or off field staff…

Wasn't Judd still captain when we traded him?

Judd was our captain when he left for Carlton.

Pretty poor look from a captain under fire in the first few weeks of the season.

Not sure how it works for the players - they've obviously voted both duggan and Oscar as captains again, but personally i don't like the dual captaincy. Feels like we're not seeing a heap of outward leadership from either of them.

This is wrong. Brisbane's deal for Joe was 3 years, reportedly worth about 800K. They then added 2 more years about 18 months in. The additional years were at a lower wage. They didn't move money from the first 3 years in to the last 2 to "smooth it out" because you can't do that with free agents (see the buddy precedent).

The effect of the additional 2 years is that Joe's entire 5 year deal may not have triggered band 1 compo for Essendon which might have resulted in them matching and Brisbane needing to trade.
Correct.

Ralph & King were big in misrepresenting what happened, and repeatedly ran with the b.s. smoothing out story on their respective shows, that most people believed what they said.

Brisbane got Joe for free and inflated the compo for the bombers in th process.

The 2nd part is wrong. It just so happens that McKay became a free agent at the end of a CBA cycle and the new CBA was due to increase substantially the next year. The AFL ranks contracts for free agents against players of the same age in the competition of that year.

So the average money per year in Ben's contract starting in 2024 was ranked against all 25 year olds in 2023 without factoring in the CBA increase.

That's the way it's always been and it just so happens that with McKay, the salary cap was increasing by 12%, so difference when comparing 2023 v 2024 would be substantial.

The AFL didn't "forget" anything.

He did but that doesn’t mean Clarke hasn’t given the green light and not reported it to Pyke. In fact it wouldn’t surprise me at all.
So you think if that was the case, Pyke wouldn't have spoken to Clarke before being interviewed on radio?
Seems doubtful.

Also doesn't excuse that fact that it shouldn't have been done in private.

He used the colloquial term "us" ie the club. "that it was news to us" and "if it happened". Not that he personally wasn't aware of the meeting. I doubt that Clarke wouldn't of informed Pyke before the media interview if he knew about it beforehand.

I knew somehow it was 'Woke's fault.

100% agree with your second point. Unless it was done in private and the Hawks leaked it to the Vic media which is also very plausible.

Absolutely nothing would surprise me with Clarke. Nothing.

I would have thought it was leaked by Allen's manager to put pressure on the eagles to increase our offer.
