Three years would be an insult.

Club is swinging from one end of the pendulum in offering overly generous contracts to the other in being ridiculously mean.

Didn’t Waterman get 5 or 6 years off the back of one good season, and they offered Yeo three years who is over thirty and very injury riddled. I’d be p***ed if I was Allen.

One of the top handful of kpf’s coming into his prime. Injuries are his problem.

If he’s only being offered three he’s being pushed out.
Has Oscar got the same management team as Barras ? Barass's contract was no guarantee he would stay.

Where are Rodriguez and Curtin projected to go?

If Allen is picked up as a free agent, it is likely on band 1 money, netting is pick 3.

We trade pick 2 to Sydney for Warner. Any pick swaps should involve future picks.

We have Warner, pick 3 and the Hawthorn pick. We should land at least one of our draft targets, possibly two if Fremantle finish above Hawthorn.
I have Rodriguez 3-5 and Curtin 12-18 but Curtin could change significantly, particularly if he plays forward and performs. I’d also only offer Swans the compo pick, not our natural pick.

So would I. I've only suggested trading our natural pick to avoid any AFL shenanigans.

Reality is 5+ years is the market rate for a guy like Allen. People can go on about his injury risk and whatever else but thats the going rate, especially when hes a FA.
If we want to keep good players then we have to give them some security.

This next contract is meant to be Allens big one, lesser players get 1mil+ for 5-6-7 years.

No reason we couldnt give him a contract based on games played like Waterman has performance triggers.
agree 100%

So apparently Swans have an academy kid who could be top 10 in Max King. (WCE_phil or other draft experts might be able to give us their thoughts?).

Looking at it they might want a pick before the bid (pick 3 Allen Compo), then basically from pick ~8 onwards their is more value in them getting our two second rounders to match the bids.

Would be very nice if could keep pick 2 (our first) and Hawks pick 8 - 14 depending on finish, and add Warner while only losing the second rounder and Allen compo.

Keep chewing through that salary cap boys.
I am 100% of the opinion that the Warner deal to WC was negotiated last year, since then Sydney have signed up a number of players on decent contracts and longer term contracts for there key players.
Would be a massive backflip if Warners x 2 were not playing for WC in 2026 imo.

It will depend on where we finish. If we finish bottom two I don’t think we would match provided Jake has another good year and two of Shanahan, JWill and Archer show enough.

Finishing 14th-16th is where it’s a bit murky and also depends on Swans asking price for Warner if he officially requests a trade.
Oscars name would be on wce whiteboard next to Harley's saying pay whatever they want. There is no world in which we wouldn't match the Brisbane's offer. If Sydney came knocking for Oscar and it was nearly a straight swap for Chad I think they'd push him out the door but I feel Oscar will be an eagle for life.

early days but currently Sydney have 3 Academy players, Carmichael, Chamberlain, King that are rated by those who have seen them play as all being somewhere between 15-25.
Significant assets and possible 1 is a top 10, they are going to need significant picks to accommodate them if they all make it onto their list.
Sydney really only have their 1st and 2nd round picks with any draft value if they finish in a similar spot and 2026 picks to trade for points to match.
Another reason I think Warners x 2 are on their way to WC.

Personally don't see how Brissie would have the capital to chase Oscar at this point?

We could float him in front of any number of other clubs and either pick up a top 10 player and/or a raft of good draft picks. What would the Lions realistically offer? A fringe midfielder and a pick in the teens? They aren't gonna part with quality because they'll be looking to extend their window.

That is of course if we don't bend over and present rump because "he wants to get to his nominated club".

We do a deal involving trading for Starcevich.

Also a RFA.

Get a top 5 pick plus Starcevich.

Lose Oscar and a F2nd.

So are we adding Brisbane to Hawthorn in our death riding for 2025??

The more the better I say

Sent from my SM-S908E using BigFooty.com mobile app
IF he goes FA, we will be death riding ourselves, compo based on our finish position, not bris. ie we finish 17th, and OA gets band 1 comp, we would have 2 (finish position) and 3 (compo)

Apologies if I misunderstood your comment.

agree 100%
Security is a 2 way street. The club didn't get much security from Barass's contract.
Was Oscar paid fully for the last 2 out of 3 years he was injured. ?
Give him a 5 year contract at $1m per year and he gets injured and can't play again and it costs the club $5m.
No security in that and it would still count as part of our salary cap for 5 years
This might be dumb question, is it possible to take out an insurance policy on Oscar or would the premium be so high due to his injury history that it isn't worth it. Maybe workers comp would cover him .

Pretty sure you can put stipulations into contracts, so certain aspects will be triggered based on games played etc.

5 years @ $900k for a premium KF of the competition and co-captain, just put triggers on games played and goals.
Believe there where triggers for games and goals for Waterman, would be happy to do the same.
Going to be 2+ years before JW is a suitable replacement and 3-4 for A Reid and Shanahan to be AFL ready.
If he wants a trade or is passed by JW or Reid/Shanahan in 4 years, trade him then for a decent return.

Is he actually a premium KF of the competition yet?

93 games for 139 goals, one season above 50 goals (his only season above 30 goals).

He's 25, it's time his numbers (and body) started to match his talent.

I really like Oscar btw, I don't mean this to come across as I don't rate him. In 2023 he clearly showed he can be elite.

If he can stay on the park he's one of the best forwards going. To do what he did in 2023 with our rabble of a team is pretty exceptional.

Games to goals ratio is a little misleading given he spent a significant amount of his early career in defence or ruck.

I agree to an extent, he's yet to (or really yet to have the chance to) demonstrate he can maintain that high level over a long period. It's a really big season for his career (fairly obvious statement haha).

If you had asked me that 3 years ago I would have agreed. The fact that he hasn't really improved over the last 2 years is a massive red flag.
There's no such thing as a draft steal at pick #46😂 Every recruiter in the country passed on him more than once for a reason.

As did every recruiter to a greater degree on a young Lachie Neale. Time will tell 🤝

David King, Ben Stratton, Caleb Daniel and Tom Gross = steals at pick #46
