TDK would do amazing things for our system.

Can’t say I’m surprised. He hasn’t been overly impressive during his train on period and with Allan, Gross, Grego and Davis being drafted, Burgiel wasn’t a pressing list need

It’s a shame because I thought he had real potential but struggled with his hammies and couldn’t seem to get the best out of himself

The vacant spot is now Brock’s to lose
Such a waste. Hammies obviously let him down but did he do everything he could to get his body right for AFL? You’d think he would have done a power of running over the last couple of months to make sure he kept up with the top runners at the club. Has elite speed but just looked like he was going through the motions and disinterested at times. He’s exactly the player we needed, very disappointing.

Think you might be right.
Very open ended statement with another spot open for someone else to join training?
Would they go for Kane laine who was on Brisbanes list for a few years. He is 206cm and is in WA. Though i really have no idea if he is any good or not, cause getting cut from Brisbane isn't really a lot of evidence as they have a great primary in the big o, a quality back up in darcy fort and had dahiner as a ruck forward for the whole year.
Amother player i would like to see train is Ethan Phillips

He's not going to end up there, not much chop at it so no point putting him in that group.

Chesser ends up a HBF or playing on the inside, I can’t see a different role for him with such a poor footy IQ even though his physical attributes suit an outside runner role.

Apart from the obvious ones that are way bigger, most of the ruckmen around his height are a similar weight. O'Brien who led the AFL hitouts by a fair margin in 2024, is same size and weight as BW and doesn't have BW's leap.. they just outsmart him in the ruck contest then tear him a new one around the ground.... trade him, a 3rd rounder would probably be overs.
We know BW isn't good enough, I'd rather get games into the others as a back-up if Flynn stays fit.
Rob has a way better reach. For his height Baz alao has a short wingspan. For his leap and his lack of reach and footy iq really hirts his game

What can you tell us about these lads? Would be great to uncover a Stephen Michael type. Or a Ted Kilmurray.
I have seen a fair bit of both of these 2 over the years. McGlade is normally in the guts at community level and is very quick with plenty of tricks. Takes a good speccie too. Pretty sure he has made a few state basketball teams.

Garrison is a jet. Agree with the other blokes, elite left foot, short, long, at goals. I'm no expert but Id be surprised if he doesn't play AFL. I think I heard he is moving to a PSA school in 2025.

I was at the NGA games at Cockburn a couple of months back and the entire 2008 Eagles NGA team looked very good. Spanked the Dockers NGA team by about 10 goals (I dont think the Dockers got a goal) and beat the WAFL All star team by 2 or 3 goals I think. For some reason I believe the WAFC didnt let a heap of state players play though.
Gazza was good along with quite a few of the boys. Michael Brauns young fella has improved plenty since I last saw him. Hopefully a few of them get a shot.

Did you ever look at the ruck battles this year? When Bailey stood next to Xerri the difference was massive.
The ruck rules favour ruckmen who prefer to not leap, and generally the 199-202cm rucks struggle unless theyre elite at some other trait.
Marshall has elite endurance and can rack up touches all over the ground, Xerri is a tank, Nank is a tank, Obrien is an endurance beast who is very hard to budge.
The other thing those guys all have is that theyve trained as ruckmen since their junior days. Bailey has always trained as a ruck/fwd, with the intention of spending most of his time forward.

Bailey is fine to keep on the list, no reason to trade him out for chump change

Not saying Bailey is a world beater and my preference would be upgrading him to a TDK if doable (in which case if we can extract trade value for him then sure), however also wouldn't be undervaluing him or throwing him away especially if our ruck stocks stay as they are.

There's a difference between weight alone and genuine strength/core, particularly that hardened strength players get from their mid 20s onwards.
(If weight perfectly equalled strength there'd be plenty of players in the AFL I'd comfortably push around in the contest!)

He's improved fairly linearly each season, while still being young. He's proven very durable (so underrated for a ruck) and while his actual ruck work is a weakness his work around the clearances is very good. He's fit enough to run all day and contest the majority of stoppages allowing us to pick more run in the side when required. If he continues to add that 5% each season to areas of his game he needs to work on, like ruck strength and craft or timing and positioning for marking contests, think he'll hit fairly serviceable heights in the realms of a Lycett by the time our younger mids are starting to come on.

All that being said I disagree with those who see him as a 2nd ruck option - his forward craft is simply not good enough and with so many good fwd/2nd ruck options on the list don't think it's worth wasting time on, would rather improve his ruck strengths. If we get a better option in while Bailey is still on the list, have him as a serviceable backup #1 and let him play WAFL otherwise. I see the 2nd ruck/fwd role as a very different position which JWilliams absolutely owns at this stage for mine, with AReid or a ruck/back like a Jamo or Barnett next in line over trying to play both Flynn and BWilliams.

tend to agree.
Make or brake season for Chesser imo.
Especially if Warners x 2 end up at WC, can see Cory Warner being an outside player across 3 lines and higher upside & footy IQ, same age.

What have you seen of Corey to decide he has higher upside than Chesser?
the fact that Chesser has had plenty of opportunity in a poor team and has not improved.
Corey Warner has been very good in VFL and when Sydney have needed a player thru injury in a premiership favourite side all year he has been the first in, or been sub. Good credentials in a team stacked with talent and been only given limited opportunity because of it.

Most of the time players develop better in a good AFL environment over a poor one. If Chesser was at the Swans, he'd likely have had much better development.

Guys, whilst I think it's unlikely Burgiel will be re-signed, many of you are confusing his SSP train on period finishing with WCE actually not signing him.

SSPs can only train for a certain period and they have one more player to trial after the break. Brock's period will probably also end soon and we'll have another player we don't know yet to train on.

That was my thinking but could he be a lock down small defender. Does not need to win the ball, only needs to be able to stop the likes of Pickett, Schultz, Kako, etc.

I thought hbf and would like to see him play behind the ball but his inability to read play means he looks lost as a wingman and so far he has not yet shown it as an inside mid at WAFL

As a R1 pick he is a bust but we might be able to salvage something
