Total debacle.

Burning up precious draft capital to bulk up the list with 27 year old filler.

The only explanation i can come up with is that the WAFC, which effectively controls the club, has told them to prioritise getting out of the bottom 4 even at the expense of building a platform sustained success with a good player group 5 years from now because they are worried punters will stop going to games and the royalty cheques will shrink if we stay in the bottom 4.

I was a Pyke supporter up until today. He has burned up all credibility and goodwill with me now. The excuses are pathetic. It is basically "we made a commitment to Liam". Well, why did you do that? It is not like Baker is going to be the difference between a top 4 finish or bottom 6 finish. It is not going to cost us a flag if we don't get him. You could have told Baker "We will offer a pick in the 15 - 20 range for you if we have one and then it will be up to Richmond to accept it or not accept it. And it is a possibility we won't have a pick in that range depending on how things pan out". Just be transparent and tell him what the lay of the land is with no guarantees. And if that is not good enough for Baker and he nominates Freo instead then so be it. You don't pledge to a player you will pay whatever it takes no matter what and no matter how much draft capital you have to burn to get him to your club.

And they got led around by the nose with the Barrass trade. It is obvious now they never got Hawthorn to agree with a ballpark trade value. That should have hapenned first given he is contracted. They should have shut the whole thing down until Hawthorn agreed and committed to a trade value. It is obvious now that Barrass was just an insurance policy for them. They wanted Battle from St Kilda as a key back because he wasn't going to cost them anything as a free agent. Barrass was the back up plan in case that failed. Once they got Battle they were free to low ball us.

Graham, Owies, and Baker, will at least apply AFL level pressure to the contest.
I’m looking forward to WC playing at an AFL level again.
I agree, I used to love watching Richmond's high pressure game style when they won their premierships rather than the Weagles Web and keepies off kick mark gameplan.

Hopefully we see a bit more pressure and run and carry this year under Mini with assistance from Owies, Baker and Graham. The last two years have been putrid.

"An aspect of the Eagles trade that shouldn’t be overlooked is the desire to be competitive quicker to enhance the chances of locking down Harley Reid. Whether it works or not, who knows, but it’s an understandable strategy for a generational talent.."

Even if we don’t follow through with cancelling memberships I think it would be a good idea for a fair portion of us to send emails to the club implying we won’t be renewing.

A mass amount of potential cancellation requests has to get some sort of attention.

Next we are going to trade Harley for Jack Darling.

Without getting into the merits of the trade, there are a lot of social media mouth-breathers who are going on about why didn’t the Eagles just walk Baker to the pre-season draft. When was the last time an established good player went to the PSD? It’s been absolute ages. Clubs have obviously made a tacit agreement not to use threats about the PSD to try to rip each other off in trade negotiations. If the Eagles decided to do that with Baker it’s not hard to see an Eagles player with Victoria ties being walked to the draft and going to whichever VIC club finished at or near the bottom of the ladder.

Given its the same point I made, I feel it necessary to advise that I am not Daniel Garb. (I am Don Pyke)
