It seems that we tend to underrate players from WC and Freo, because we don't see a lot of their games in Melbourne.
Pavlich is the classic example - he was a true superstar, but would have been huge if he played for a Melbourne based club.
So we've seen little of Schultz, and he's flown under the radar, although our footy scouts will have been keeping an eye on him.
We took Fraser with Pick 1.

Pavlich went at pick 4.

AVERAGE CAREER GAMES PLAYED (1993-2008 AFL National Drafts)

Pick 1:
239.6

Pick 2: 208.3

Pick 3-5: 162.3

Pick 6-10: 122.9

Pick 11-20: 119.2

Pick 21-30: 81.1

Pick 31-50: 81.0

Pick 51-70: 48.6
In other words, the second round has inflated value and the third is undervalued.

Another Ashcroft to lions
Crows have a FS prospect

Gold Coast and Sydney also both have academy players.

Strong possibility of AFL also lowering the pick where Next Gen players can be matched by clubs. Currently pick 40 onwards. (Another Quaynor possible for us).

Desperation creeping around the corners and it’s only Sunday. If Walls has his head screwed on properly this trade period(honestly debatable), we’ll wait till Wednesday last 5 minutes and we’ll get that F1st.
I'm down with that, as long as your F1st comes back to us 😁

This years 1st is a fair offer. We could always wait till next year and pick him up for nothing and in the meantime take Jack Gunstan cheap to fill the whole on a temporary basis. Looks like Jack is homesick and most probably contributed to him not producng his best at the Lions. Has the connection with Wrighty.

Gunston didn't request a trade to Vic, only to Hawks. They'll get it done

It must suck being a Freo supporter right now? The best you’ve got is to bust our chops over trading a future v current first. About to lose your best forward, stuck with Bell end and JL and with a ridiculous over investment in the least important role on the ground because you can’t trade Darcy with all the players you’ve lost… Enjoy your September holidays over the next few years 😂

Yes i know about the carlton twins.
Im wondering what orher players are ties to clubs next year to make the draft next hear more comprised than this hears draft.
I can’t remember the exact names, of all of them, but I saw a list of expected first round kids and there were the Camporeale twins, Ashcroft, a kid from Adelaide, and at least 2-3 northern academy kids too. Obviously things can change in 12 months, but next years first round is looking like a bloodbath in terms of how it’s compromised, because that’s 6-7 spots down already before you even get to FA compensation.

Looking at Pick 18 probably being pick 24 or 25 - a second rounder. Throw in three FAs and it's almost pick 30!

Mitchell is a hard task master ! its not a given that Gunstan gets back there. Clubs will definitely at least knock and enquire . No brainer

…..and then Tassie come in.
Might be 2025 draft, might be 2026….

Clubs will need to know more certainty as futures value will depend on it.
Either way, you’d hate to be crap right now. Because it’s going to be slim pickings in R1 for the next 5 years.

Edit: forgot to mention the fact using “2 firsts” to leverage a player out won’t have the same value as normal.
Picks are going to fly around everywhere as clubs look to use minimum chips in the draft.

This table is a great example and shows how steep player quality drops off. People really do overate draft picks outside the top 10. I also think the fact that between 20 and 30 and 30 and 50 the average games played is the same highlights after 20 it really is a bloody lottery. For context after pick 20 we are more likely to get the next Callum brown. Any wonder clubs trade multiple firsts to try and get into the top 10. They aren’t worth much at all most of the time

Stormy, the skill is picking the good ones at the lower picks.

I must have read a thousand times that a team can't get a key position player outside the first round and yet teams do it.
