I thought the enforced small forward line worked well, albeit there wasn’t much pressure at times from Richmond.

If Essendon are playing 2 rucks I would look at keeping a similar small forward line and just have at MOST Soldo & Georgiades down there at the same time.

I expect Hinkley to bring in Finlayson, Atkins and McEntree for Lukosius, Burton and Jones.

DJB and Jase Burgoyne to go back with Atkins on a wing and McEntree forward.

Yep, really hoping they move Burgoyne back to cover Jones instead of bringing in Atkins. Give Lorenz or Moraes a full run on the wing.

Also don't mind giving Berry a stint as sub, he is struggling to stay involved throughout the game and having an impact role might suit him.

Only loss was to Carlton by 50 points in 2023 when they made finals and got to the PF and we went out in straight sets.

Edit the 2pt win against Bulldogs in RD 23 2021 was a bloody good win. Bulldogs lost their last 3 games and went from top to 5th and lost 9% and missed the top 4 by 0.5 % ie about 8 pts, and fooled everyone that maybe they would do nothing in the finals - but they made the GF.

And I think half their side would struggle to make most other sides. Even though we are undermanned in areas we should win

The script may change slightly with Essendon in terms of the timing of its absolute best and worst, but the bottom line is always the same. Not good enough. Not nearly skilled enough. Not nearly tough enough for nearly long enough, either physically or psychologically.

But even that may not be the worst part for Bomber fans. It's probably more painful still watching rivals like Hawthorn go down the ladder then up again and past Essendon. Maybe the likes of Gold Coast, Adelaide, even a resurgent North Melbourne, are now set to do similarly while the Dons languish in entrenched mediocrity.

Bombers should be keen to ‘show something’ but are very young and inexperienced. It’s a quick and smaller deck a than the G.

We are also young and inexperienced and are missing key players. It was hot on Saturday too with a short turn around. Likely both sides will fatigue.


It’s a danger game for sure but Port just has to find a way to win.

For me this is actually the game to play some experienced players, maybe opt for speed and mobility. Use the overlap run so that they can’t set up in the midfield defensively.

I would back the guys we have, like Berry, give them time to settle in.

Finlayson for Luko up front and second ruck. Uncontested open game will likely suit him. If Lord’s shoulder is fine, then get him in but get him 100% right otherwise so he can have a serious crack this year.
