And they'll get pick 10?

Yes. And that's the minimum they get next year (they might get a top 5 pick as compo if their year is bad). To entice them to do it a year early you have to offer a he'll of a lot more extra than p35.

Yes he was. Go back to 2012 and part of 2013 before his knee injury and some people were saying he was our solution and would be a top 5 ruck in the league. The club put too much faith in him (when up until then his durability wasn't great) which is why they let West and Stephenson go and made other decisions like not taking Grundy which bit us. Dawson played a lot of his career at 107-109kg and Conway is a similar height and weight so they are very comparable. For the record I think Conway is a better natural tap ruck than Dawson was but he has exactly the same durability problems.
If Dawson didn’t go down with that back injury we would had won the flag he was in very very good form that year

I said pick 15 and 35

Exactly. And they will get at least one r1 next year. So all they are getting extra is p35. That's not enough. They can't sell that to their members and won't.

Toby Conway, who one day will be in the top 3 ruckman in the AFL is ONLY 21 yo and 207 cms, so injury set-back's in his early career are far more likely to happen than not happen and not dissimilar to champion and outstanding Demons ruckman in Max Gawn. Sure, Toby has had a couple of unfortunate early set-back's but that is all they were, otherwise the club would have never 'resigned him recently' if they had viewed and analysed him through 'your eyes' with ZERO DURABILITY which thankfully they did not. Toby is currently in training, with the club focusing on building up his body and fitness levels to be ready for second half of season in which if all is going well, will be an absolute blessing for all us Cat supporters.
While I have high hopes for Toby, it's important to remember that for every Max Gawn, there's a Dawson Simpson, Sean Darcy, Matthew Kreuzer, NicNat, Hamish McIntosh, Nathan Vardy, Steven King, etc.

For the record, I'm not stating that Conway will be a top-3 ruck in the league, but I was absolutely of the opinion in 2013 that Dawson had the ability to make it as an AFL ruckman.

The big fella had a really, really good month in 2013 - he killed it in Adelaide, the game where Harry missed after the siren - and then he hyper-extended his knee and was never the same.

Yes... But no reason not to be optimistic we have a max gawn.

Also from your list. If conway ends up nic nat with an AA blazer i will call it a win.

Steven King doesnt deserve to be put in that lot , Geel capt , b/f All Aust - and if he hadnt of pinged his hamstring in the 3rd qtr of that Nick Davis final ( the Cats were 4 goals up in cruise control ) then Geel would have yet another premiership !!!

I read on the main board a year or 2 back , it was a belated thread title about Geelongs dominance and im pretty sure it was a Crows supporter , and they said be grateful that its 4 flags theve won just shy of 20 years because they could quite easily have won 7 or 8

And you can pencil in S Kings hamstring being one those 7 or 8

My point is just that his career was destroyed by injury.

We were never winning the flag in 05, regardless of whether we beat the swans or not.

Structurally, Shannon Neale is extremely important to Geelong and although his game against Demons wasn't to the heights we'd like, he did have an 'excellent last quarter' which was great to see. Shannon, being such a 'mountain of a man' but also so, so athletic, was also unlucky not to get a few frees by either being blocked, subtlety pushed in back or arms hit in marking contests. It was so noticable how Melbourne backman 'in tandem' were constantly stopping him from having a run at the ball which is something he'll need to adjust to better but there is an upside because it does allow a player like Paddy Dangerfield a little more freedom to take marks while Shannon is being the heavy focus.

Shannon also takes most of the forward-line rucking duties in forward half which allows our main ruckman to sit behind play which sets us up so much better from a defensive point of view and by Shannon taking the odd centre bounces it also lessens the load for our main rucks.

At present my main criticism of Shannon is that he drops too many marks that he has in his hands, therefore the hard work has been done as he has the ball in his hands but he drops the ball. To me, it comes down to technique..... with him 'fully stretching his arms to mark without turning his elbows in' which is the wrong thing to do as you end up with 'flat hands', you need when flying for a mark 'to turn BOTH your elbows in' which when doing this action 'turns your hands out, thus making far easy to mark the ball' but also while doing this action 'you MUST have soft hands', learn to do that and his marking issues will be over!

Was the third qtr last night a bad one?

It was fine. Not good, not bad, just fine.
I think lots of things need time to work out and as chris Scott said (when he was asked how the cats are going), that’s it’s too early in the season to tell.

Gold Coast and St Kilda are playing well at the moment 😂 , so i pretty much take every statistic with a grain of salt at this stage.

Bloody hell.
SDK was not fit enough. And he's a kid. Did you want to bury him?

Even last night he was patchy, but he was ok. It was like his first day at high school when it came to going back to defence.

Scott has said that using him in the ruck is to increase his skillset.
I think his time in the ruck actually helped him a lot when he played as a full back. He was easily reading the ball, had good touch and was physically outpointing his opponents.

I thought last night was the most physical game I've seen from him. His tackles stuck for a change and he was not afraid of any contact, especially against some of the hard bodies of the Melbourne mids.

Could be a turning point for him. Not that he'd be expected to be winning a heap of contested ball, or doing the dirty work. But it's a nice trait for him to have if he can produce it regularly.
I noticed that he looked way stronger. Probably the affect of one more preseason, plus now knowing that his body can handle the physical clashes.

Anyone else notice vision of Oliver having lengthy chats with Stewart Stanley and Danger both during and after the game.

Probably asking Stanley if he needed any help on the farm. And was practically trying to get Dangerfield pregnant.

Still think he’s very short odds to be at Geelong next year. The more the Dees stink it up the more he’s out. Dees will go full rebuild and he’ll be part of the fire sale.
