"would like to play another year or two after this one" are words that are like honey to my ears. Make no mistake about it, this bloke helps us win premierships. Is currently on 116 games for the HFC and 157 for Port. 2 more seasons would see him a career hawk.

Would be great to see him reach 300 career games even if he doesn't surpass the 157 games he played at Port. We are so unbelievably lucky to have him in our side with the freedom to play him in a back pocket for half a season. If I could summarise his role for the team in a picture it would be with this:

I was going to bump this the other day.

How good was he on Saturday night?!

The amount of times he crashed and bashed into a pack to either get the ball or shield a path for someone else was fantastic. He's such a super player.

He easily sits amongst the other greats to have pulled on the number 9, IMO.

Yep. He just seems able to elevate himself above almost every other player on the field. There are moments where he was being tackled and just used raw power to break out after trying to turn his hips had failed. Clarkson has a special phone in the coaches box that goes straight to Shaun Burgoyne.

NA-NA! NA-NA! NA-NA! NA-NA! NA-NA! NA-NA! NA-NA! NA-NA! BURGOYNNNNE!

In the beginning, apparently expensive and with dicky knees, some were not too sure of The Shaun Identity
In Hawk colours, he shows who he is, doing what he likes. Catch me if you can. The Shaun Ultimatum
2013 PF V Geelong - no better example of The Shaun Supremacy
100+ games on and a couple of sons growing up in Brown & Gold, we look forward to The Shaun Legacy.

Tucky mk 2

Burger is at 1984 in comparson, already with 3 flags and countless finals

Just another 6 years and 4 flags please Burger !

He has already transitioned into an old guy style of play and isvery durable, misses only a few games

There aren't many players about whom you can definitively say have individually won you a premiership but Shaun Burgoyne is one for Hawthorn. Without him we wouldn't have progressed to the grand final in 2013 and who knows what would have happened beyond that? Now we are back to back premiers. He stands at the intersection of the ultimate sliding doors moment in this clubs recent history. Three quarter time in the 2013 PF.

I think he's the best recruit we've ever brought into the club.

I want him to play another 2 seasons at least, but even he thinks he's playing on one knee and one ankle.

Why is he called "Silk"?

All I see is him under packs fighting for the contested ball, winning the ball in packs, breaking tackles and hitting opponents with bone-crunching bumps.

That's not silky at all

;)

On Prelim Final night, 2013, Travesty Varcoe and his pussy mates were treated to a special screening of the Shaunshank Redemption...

...too far...?

to me, he is the only player in our team who has all the attributes needed in a footy player.. like EVERYTHING.. Hodge doesn't have speed, Cyril is not an elite kick as others, etc etc... Only person i can think of that has it all is Burygoyne.. anyone agree? who else has every single attribute you can think of? dont need me to name the skill set right? mark kick run tackle bump speed goal etc etc.. he has EVERYTHING.. only player in our team that has it all.. If only CYril was more of an elite kick, he would b a better version of burgers.. Cyrils a very good kick but not elite like Burgers if u ask me.

Only thing you could argue is height, though that's obviously not a skill

You know what's frustrating about silk? The guy literally only exerts himself when absolutely needed, imagine if he went full tilt every week! Sublime footballer, makes the right decision with the footy 99% of the time and is able to play anywhere on the ground.

Exactly, he's the Master footballer

But Burgoyne doesn't need to go hard all the time, he's our Clark Kent, only puts on the suit to sort out an emergency.

Timing.
Hopefully we can hide him in the back pocket and keep him playing into his 40's.

If he went full tilt every week he probably would've retired a couple years ago due to his knee and ankle being completely ruined. I wouldn't expect him to play considerably more time in the middle unless we happen to be losing over the next 2 weeks with Lewis and Hodge out.

Extend '2 weeks' to '2 years' & I agree.

I can see Jnr Burger going on like this at least 1 more year; &, he'd be the ultimate Sub in his last year of Footy.
