I was at the game.

Strong wind to Essendon end in first qtr then it seemed to die down after that.

Nina looked like she popped her finger out at one stage.

Very impressed with the skills and the fitness of both womens teams today.

Was a great day to watch some footy, Sammy was there and I reckon during the game he would of took a 100 pictures with the fans that spotted him.

The women's game is different though; there are players who can kick it long and accurately, yes, but a lot of the time the women are unable to break a line through a long kick alone - makes the games very contested, therefore there's going to be a high tackle count.

It's still all a work in progress though, and things are developing - Geelong's women have come a long way this year, starting to think their way through congestion rather than panicking. I've been genuinely surprised at just how well we're starting cohere.

Today's game featured Maddy Prespakis, I think she's easily the best female player that I've seen in to date, better than Daisy and better than Erin Phillips. I like all 3 of those women, all worth aspiring to. Then there's someone like Chloe Scheer from our team; brilliant 1v1 up forward despite not being particularly tall, and her foot skills are a real weapon. Good to have a diverse spread of players for up and coming girls to model themselves on.

Looking at that tackle again... the girl bent down for the ball, on trying to break away the geelong player desperate lung after she had lost her feet caught the ess player as she was coming up from gathering the ball. She wanted to bring her to ground and almost appeared to roll her over her shoulder. I do not think she did that...I think she lacked the strength to tackle her and roll her. Was the intent to hurt? Was it deliberately meant to happen. No but the outcome is dangerous.

Outcome was definitely dangerous, agree with that.

I felt as though the Essendon player could easily have dropped to her knees to protect herself, she had no need to fling her right leg out and destabilise her position. Tried to milk and in-the-back (and did) but could have hurt herself. McDonald will get weeks.

I've watched the McDonald tackle a few times and not sure what else she was meant to do - if some claimed that Kearns contributed to her AC injury in the round 1 tackle, then surely a Cain contributed to this being dangerous

You can see at the start of the tackle that McDonald is trying to pull her backwards:

The tackle then starts to become dangerous when Cain plants her right leg, and got can also see she's lifting her left arm looking to shrug out of the tackle:

Because of how Cain has planted her right leg, with all her momentum still going forward & her trying to shrug the tackle, it leaves not much option but to go over her right leg as she does

Really not sure what else McDonald was to do in that situation

Just finished watching the replay.

Thought Prespaskis' game was a tad overrated - yeah she got it a stack of times, but most of her disposal was rubbish (I think the commentators said her disposal efficiency was around 42% midway through the last quarter, and she had a couple more ineffective disposals after that), and she was unsighted at the start of the last term when A.McDonald got the first two centre clearances on her, then she was switched onto Morrison who got the 3rd clearance of the quarter to set up Scheer's 2nd for the term, and it was game over. At the end of the game she was the 3rd best ranked player behind Scheer and McDonald, which was pretty spot on IMO.

The backline held up remarkably well considering how much more time Essendon had the ball in their forward line, especially in the first three quarters. On the other hand, we were pretty efficient down the other end too - I think we had 7 scoring shots out of a dozen or so forward 50 entries up until 3 quarter time. It is good to have a win like that where we were down in general play for most of the match, but gutsed it out until we got the game on our terms in the last - shows the maturity which is building in the group.

I can't see how Keryk holds her spot after today's effort either. The only two times I spotted her she actually ran away from the ball rather than trying to attack it, and I think Essendon actually scored from the first effort. I think Fuller is due for a rest too.

Scheer was incredible in that last term - she was actually the difference in the end as she kicked 2.3 in the last and that was the final margin. Agree with those who were praising Bowen and Friswell's games too.

Interesting, watching it live that's exactly how I saw it cats_09 but then I started to consider that maybe my bias had kicked in - perhaps her opponent's lack of injury might work in her favour, but using Kearns as an example/precedent who the hell knows?

We need you defending her on the stand!

The dropping to protect herself is another example of not enough footy nous. The in game know how of what to do is lacking of how to handle tackle and be tackled ...ist part of the same issue.

I feel if it was strong more knowedable player tackling a mens comp situation... their no way it happens like that. Maybe the bear hug then roll. The player being tackled ..I cant remember someone like Joel ever doing that. becuase yes ..as you say he would have protected himself better.

My fear is soon or later with the preponderance of the tackles we have an extreme bad outcome..and that can only be bad for F footy.

By the way looked at the highlights of CS playing FF for us , the one you mentioned. She certainly can play. Nice mark in the square

Amy McDonald I'm guessing - makes me a bit angry because the player really stopped, propped and tried to milk a free - but herself in a very dangerous position. McDonald would go close to the competition MVP this year too; unfortunately she's probably looking at two very very unfortunate weeks on the sidelines instead, right when the team is finally pushing for a significant finals tilt.
Very low impact, no injury to the player. She would be desperately unlucky to be suspended for that.

Scheer will be one of our best ever trades by the end of her career i reckon-gun.
Obviously didn't get mentioned much when he retired but am I right in remembering that Scheer asked for a trade because she loved Selwood and he bumped into her at a game and said 'come play for us'?

Fris chase down tackle in the goal square was brilliant. Moments like that win games.
Bowen on other wing was slick all day. Running machine and def improving every week (but prob should have taken that shot of goal in 3rd).

Bowen at her best when she absorbs any contact (she’s quite slight as you know) then uses her run - agree, should’ve taken that late shot on goal; she could have kicked that …

I meant to post this yesterday, and I've said it before... But Skinner is the worst player I've ever seen at any level. I have no idea at all how she kicked that goal last week.. Defies all logic. She's slow, reactive somehow manages to always be a step behind even when she starts in front and generally fumbles it when she's near it. Honestly I'd prefer they play Bragg who comes from zero background and has so much scope for improvement.
Darby is also struggling bad and done I think but she offers ruck support that Fuller absolutely needs.

Enough negative stuff though, how good a get has Shelly Scott been.. She's added so much class and experience since going forward and its really freed up Scheer IMO, she should have kicked 5 yesterday and was absolutely dominant that last quarter. Strong strong mark, lovely pure kick and she is a step ahead reading the play.
Nina is sensational, reckon Gunj has been fantastic as a defender although Toogood showed her up yesterday, that said Claudia is backing herself and still had a few intercepts and uses the ball well.
Great results to get the 2 wins with no Prespakis

Surely McDonald they challenge, I felt at the time she did not do anything wrong tackling, her momentum had stopped and the only reason it became dangerous was due to the Bombers player taking herself off her feet... AMac is unbelievable though, almosy impossible to tackle and if she is she has the incredible ability to still get the ball out to a target... The kick is as awkward as it comes but also effective. Much improved side, good to watch and getting better each game.. So lovely pure ball movement at times showing through

Yes. I hope they challenge. The Bomber rolled over herself.
