Your claim was that he was meeting Harley Reid, and that it was reported. I linked a video of McClure (who is also the source of your article) saying the reported meeting was with Oscar Allen and refuting that it was with Reid and that they're of different managers.

Your article,

The only part about Reid is that his management was also in town.
“But Allen is not the only Eagle in the Hawks’ sights as the ladder leaders target No.1 pick Harley Reid.”

You missed this bit….

Ten’s Lachy Reid reported along with Mitchell’s meeting with Allen, the second-year star is “also a (Hawthorn) target and coincidently his (Reid’s) management was also in town”.”

It’s implied they’re meeting Reid’s people at the very least.

The possibility is implied, an actual meeting was not reported, which was your claim. With all due respect those are two different things.

There will always be links but you can also rebuild via trade and looking at players under 25 that you will get 6 plus years from. Rebuild is not simply drafting.
No doubt, think a banged up 25 yr old isnt matching that though in this case

Harley a different story though
I don't think so. Rosa's doing due diligence. I would have thought it was standard practice.
As well, we are bereft of leaders.
I'd trade McGrath or Parish for Butters in a heartbeat, with some kind of sweetener because they couldn't be that dumb.
Yes, but they wouldnt agree to that

And also a 'sweetner' would be a top 10 pick

So i dont see the point in saying something so ridiculously unrealistic?

“Sam Mitchell was in Perth this week speaking to Eagles captain Oscar Allen but did not again catch up with Reid after spending some of Barrass’s wedding night with the young star.”

From todays ‘moneyball’ article. Hawks did not meet with Reid.

On another note, hawks are now favourite to secure Reid if he leaves.

Who might fit the salary dump category this season? And what sort of pick upgrade could we expect? I'd think the bowes deal won't be a realistic aim for us unfortunately. Can't see anything that good ever coming up again.
Not sure, but I was thinking more of a Craig Bird/Peter Wright type that flies under the radar and less Jack Bowes and Geelong getting kissed by head office. Doesn’t have to be a great player, you just have them on the list for a year or two while you take the picks to the bank.

The right time for us is probably next year when he's a FA instead of having to give up draft capital this year.

Whether that hurts our chances of getting him or not is besides the point. I'd love a butters type in the club, but can be right player just wrong time for the club, I'd argue it's wrong for now.

Also gives us another year to make Parish's contract easier to move.

If I was a hawks fan I would love that my coach is doing that and being that hands on.
I'm jealous.
It's one of the red flags I have on Scott, a lot of "my job is to coach, leave that to recruiting".
I don’t think he’s that hands off, if anything he wants the latitude to have a say on the whole footy program (at least AFL, not necessarily W). He just didn’t want to be left to do it all himself and end up spending half his work week doing admin or bookkeeping/HR stuff instead of working with players and coaches, like at NM he was basically also the gm footy.

On the other hand you had Worsfold being excluded from recruiting and list discussions altogether, which is far too much the other way.

I don't think he is totally hands off no, but I also don't think he's driving the vision for the club, I think that would be Vozzo.

Mitchell is driving their vision imo.

In my ideal world our coach would be a bit closer to the Mitchell end of things

Yeah it wouldn't surprise me if Butters' manager is just turning the screws on the market to test it out. Butters seems like the kind of person to see how the Port transition plan works out first.

I don't know why they dumped him as Captain in favour of Rozee. Reckon Butters is twice the leader Rozee is.

They traded a 'banged up' Duursma for BZT.
You actually have no idea what they would or wouldn't agree with.

If anything imagine being Carlton and selecting Walsh over both Rozee and Butters.

Heck even Caldwell from the same draft is doing better than him this year and is leading him on average in every stat so far.
Walsh was a clear cut number 1 draft pick if my memory serves me correctly. His first year was as good as any number 1 draft pick. Injuries from the over reliance from Carlton has made his almost 25 year old body appear to be 31

In 8 years, Reid could be playing for his third club like Jake Stringer is.
True, but that’s for any draftee. If he requests a trade, then the only thing we know is that he wants to play for us.

We’ll know where Reid stands (and what our draft hand is) at the end of the season.

Even rebuilding sides loaded with top picks don’t always nail it, let alone select a player with the ceiling Reid has.

We’ve busted so many first round picks (either because of injury or talent) that it’s time to get a player with proven elite potential at AFL level. Getting a win in elite talent acquisition is so important to us and we’d be lucky he’d be in his third year

Perhaps you're right.

But now imagine Caldwell in Carlton's midfield being fed by Cripps. Scary.

Walsh was like Scully. Clear best junior that didn't have the attributes to transition to the same role at AFL level. Both of them would have killed it going to a top club and playing mostly outside football.

I likened Walsh to Scully a couple of years back. Very similar attributes. Walsh a bit more dynamic and able to win his own ball.

We cannot allow Hawthorn to waltz in and get both Reid and Allen.

Carlton need to finish 9th so that West Coast don’t accept Hawthorn’s trade offer for Reid. I’m not watching another Hawthorn three-peat while we sit there still figuring out how to rebuild.
Wait. So you're saying that to some extent, we actually need to cheer for Carlton.
This crazy life!
