All over for this year!

Check out our new picks from the draft:
Pick #13 (matched): Isaac Kako - Small Forward, Calder Cannons
Pick #37: Kayle Gerreyn - Ruck/Forward, West Perth
Pick #39: Angus Clarke - Defender, Glenelg
Pick #61: Rhys Unwin - Small Forward, Greater Western Victoria
Pick #70: Zak Johnson - Midfielder, Northern Knights
Pick #6 RD: Archer Day-Lewis - Forward, Bendigo Pioneers
Cat B Rookie: Jayden Nguyen - Defender, Calder Cannons

Lets play hypotheticals again;

a bid comes at pick 13 with our initial draft hand. What does our end hand look like after the bid at 13? A back ended pick?
We get whoever at 9 id say Lindsay or Allen

Then get Kako at 13 and have the rest of the picks we want at the very backend of the draft.... looks like early 70s

hypothetically we had 9 on draft night, what would other clubs have offered us for the pick.

North offered F1 for 27.

would it have been more than what Dees offered?

Holmes would be the successful candidate in the 20s

But id say more often than not has not worked

Cant remember what suns gave up for Flanders or if they did.. memory escapes but he was around pick 11 so far earlier

Geelong traded an F1 (ended up 17 the next year) for Pick 20. Geelong was never likely to have a high pick in 2021 given they'd finish Top 4 year again in 2020, and they're Geelong.

Melbourne's pick could quite easily be a Top-10 if not Top-5.

Unless we think North will be better then the Dees next year.

Which honestly is a pretty reasonable opinion to have. Wouldn’t mind having Blues or Hawks or Pies FRP either they could be good as well

if you don't trade pick 9 how are you paying for him at bid of pick 12? we had no third remember.
We had 31, 53 and wouldve had 70 being our 5th rounder with list spots.

You can trade those for more points on night. Ie lions 27 fir dogs 35 and 48 is an extra 150-200 points

53 and 70 definictly come in post Ashcroft, Lombard and even Marshall bid

Maybe 37 and a future pick for 31 would be enough. Shanahan or Whitlock may still be there.
It has its risk with 3 picks ahead that teams may trade ahead for or take the 2 talls

Would have to be 37 + F2 atleast

If we have them around 15, then we may still consider just an F1, to get it done if we feel its a real need, that would be for one or 2 of the next picks though

No guarantee whatsoever North offer the same pick to us under that scenario.

We got F1 + 28 + 40 + 46 + 54 + 65 for for our First + F3

a.k.a we gave up 1831 points and got back 3625 points

If I've done my checking right, in total we traded out;

9, 44 (F3), 53 (Stringer).

We got

5 (F1), 32, 35, 37, 47, 54, 65

So out 2064 points, in 4093 points.

He's created a fair bit of currency from nothing.

Do you think enough to leave our F1 in tact? Would've been a lot of dealing just to avoid a penalty on next years 1st

Always enjoy your posts

This is a good one and Rosa is off to a good start!

Norf did that because there was a player they really liked available and it’s not as unfavourable to norf as people are making out as Richmond’s F2 will be a decent pick.

I don’t think you can turn down the Melbourne trade offer on the basis that maybe someone will make a better offer on draft night. Maybe in a counter factual situation there is a better trade, but there’s also the very real risk it backfires.

Bit presumptuous to think Dees will finish 5th last again.
change it to pick14
then allow for academy bids next year could be like pick 20.

suns have 3 good academy kids I think Lions a couple, swans 1 Giant.
Jeff Whites boy could be a sun or Dees under father son or academy rules.

Calling it just a future first is an over simplification. A future first is a pick anywhere from 1 to 27. Yes, we received some second-rounders, but the biggest asset is that first-round pick. There is risk with it, based on how Melbourne are going to perform.
There is risk with all picks. It is not really an over simplification. We turned pick 9 into 3 top 40 picks plus we still got our guy. The best draft is considered to be 2001. Try these on for size.
4. G Polak 111 games
5. X Clarke 106 games
6. A Sampi 78 games
9. L Molan 0 games
10. S Power 123 games
11. R Cole 63 games
14. A Watson 7 games
15. B brokks 10 games
16 R Ladson 125 games
18 S harvey 14 games
20 D Elstone 0 games.
What makes a super draft is not just the great players and super stars at the top end but also the stars that come through the late first , second and third rounds.
2014 is the same and it is ranked in the top few drafts. 9 players in the top 20 played under 100 games.
1999 gets rated highly as it had 6 200 game players in the top 10 but it only had 1 super star in the top 10. Had a lot of 200 game players right down to pick 73.
200 had two stars at 1 & 2 and close to a star at 3 but then 4 guys who played under 50 games in the next 4 picks and then 3 okay player in the next 3.
The percentage of finding a better player is a little higher but overall the better asset in clubs who have had the best draft years have been total number of picks in the top 40.
The risk is actually almost as big in keeping it and having the eggs in one basket and on top of that to get Kako we are trading out future picks to get the points.

Picks we did not have.

i recall reading sometime this season that archie roberts had ended up drifting down a fair way, though i could be misremembering.

is there anyone of his calibre who may end up sliding? i know there's some interest in shanahan, but who else would potentially be on the cards?
Maybe Zak Johnson.

Not in total picks.
