I recall it not being a great day weather wise but why was the crowd for this prelim back in 2019 only 77k?

It could hail on Friday night and i reckon it would still be 90k+

I doubt the AFL will be keen to allow two non-Vic teams participating in the grand final. The Giants with need to overcome some very lop sided umpiring but I reckon they are capable of winning despite this.

Don’t worry about them. A lot of neutrals (particularly on this forum) are Collingwood haters in disguise. I wouldn’t worry much about what they say.
I've never disguised my dislike for the Pies. You can dislike other teams, not a radical concept. It's all in good fun though, don't get crazy about it like some overseas soccer hooligans.

Why?

You think they’ll sell less tickets? Or do you think less viewers will watch the AFL GF if it’s not 2 Victorian teams playing?

These posts seriously confuse me…

Would be good to have GWS win in a boil over, but I have a sneaking suspicion that Collingwood will have them covered across the ground.

GWS have nothing to lose, if they come out to play hard & take it to Collingwood they are a chance.

Couldn’t disagree any more. For brand expansion north of the border a QLD V NSW GF is an AFL marketing wet dream

Pies by at least 50. Then they either get a beat-up Carlton side or an interstate side in the GF, both of which are automatic wins.
I wish this were true.

I don’t think GWS will be an easy win, or a guaranteed win. 2019 is a prime example.

IF Pies get up, they either face a side with more talent/X factor or an underdog who has the wood over us in GFs.

I have never understood the 'nothing to lose' narrative. I don't care if no one expected a team to make a Prelim but once you get here there is a whole lot to lose for both teams, a shot at winning a flag. People said this about us last year that we had nothing to lose playing against Sydney in the Prelim but losing by 1 point and a chance to play on Grand Final Day was a massive loss.

Genuine 50/50 contest this one. If we can stay with them in the middle then that will go long way to us winning. Easier said than done though given the form of their midfield.

Fair dinkum why do you bother following the sport if you believe it's that managed? Obviously your team will not be allowed to win. Maybe time to find another sport if the AFL will never allow you to win.

I think GWS will win a close one.

Taylor, Idun and Buckley down back are criminally underrated and the Pies don't have the class of tall forwards to cause them trouble.

It'll be blokes like Hill and Elliott who'll need to do most of the damage for the Pies to win imo.

Whilst I agree Taylor, Idun and Buckley are criminally underrated, I think the Pies actually have the workhorse type KPFs to work them away from contests. Mihocek, McStay and Cameron/Cox will play their normal game, like they did with Lever/May to minimise their intercept marking.

Good thing about Collingwood’s forward line is we aren’t reliant on the one forward to break the game open and it is a death by a thousand cuts if Hill, Elliott, McCreery, McStay and Mihocek can each contribute with a couple of goals.

To your point though, Pies will have to be very smart with how they bring the ball i50 against the GWS defence.

Pies weren't as good in 2019. They'd finished only 2 places and two wins ahead of GWS in the H&A, and GWS had had a good record against them. Pies were lucky to get a poor finals performing Geelong side in the QF, but it then, in hindsight, wasn't that surprising that GWS got the scalp. Collingwood weren't a great side that year; they were barely top 4 but got lucky to face perennial finals chokers at the time in Geelong.

This year the Pies have finished 6 places and 5 wins ahead of GWS, and they've clearly been the top side in the comp for the entire season. The last time you played GWS at the 'G you crushed them by 65 points. Now it's going to be an MCG filled with rabid Collingwood fans and a finals environment and atmosphere while GWS have an extra finals game under their belts and a trip interstate. You'll get over them with ease. Game will be over by quarter time. Wouldn't surprise me if we saw a repeat of the 2010 PF here.

Carlton are the team you'd least likely want to play in the GF at this point based on form and the loss of home ground/crowd advantage, but if they get there they are the walking wounded at that point and lack the experience the Pies have. Brisbane's record against you in GFs 20 years ago means nothing. Currently they're a team that's weak ass piss away from the Gabba, especially in finals. Biggest bunch of top 4 finals pretenders since Geelong circa 2016-209.
