Mitchell receives AFL life membership this week :thumbsu:

Mitchell – who is set to become an AFL life member when he plays his 300th official game against Adelaide on Thursday (which includes 270 premiership matches, 27 pre-season games, one State of Origin match and one International Rules match) - is hungry for more success in the second half of the year.

This is what Gus did to Betts in his 200th last year! He MUST stay in for that match up!

Another one of those games where I can't believe the odds for our opposition to win. $3 for Crows to win at home H2H. That will probably go out even further if Birchall is named to play and we don't have any unexpected outs.

Thank god footy is back when I'm reduced to just hoping other wins go our way and not even any BH games to find out how the kids are going it's a long boring weekend.

And we get teams early, just hope we win because it's way to long to our next game

Massive week for the selectors. You could throw a blanket over about 27 first graders. I hope the players are feeling the pressure for spots.

I like Cheney, good honest toiler. If he is in their best 21 then we will have more talent. Adelaide can play good footy, at least this will be a game worth watching.

Can anyone please tell me how Jed Anderson has been going at Box Hill this season? Haven't heard much about him lately and it feels like he is a forgotten man at te moment.
Has he been playing? Is he injured?

He's not injured, he's been playing but just not setting things alight at the moment. Is good in patches but doesn't seem to be consistent throughout a game (IMO). I don't think he's been forgotten, just needs some time to get some form back. (If you mosey on over to the Box Hill threads, several Box Hill watchers write up detailed reports on the Hawthorn players after each match so you will get some more detailed info there).

news just in grigg out with ankle and lever hasn't come up

douglas will come in for grigg, B Crouch a possibility for wright or M Crouch............only had 1 sanfl game back and been out all year

Henderson might be fit but unlikely he comes in after a month off...............we needed lever for gunston so it's disappointing. Cheney may end up on his mate gunston if Kelly doesn't

Who do you think takes Schoenmakers if he keeps his spot? I would've thought Cheney might be a better match up as Gunston is far more agile and would lose Cheney fairly easily.

just like he lost otten easily last year. We don't have many options so I'd expect Kelly or cheney to get gunston and schoenmakers, walsh likes cheney to be a poor man's Gibson and support the other defenders but we may not have that luxury as gunston is such a dangerous player ............they will switch around a bit no doubt but they will be the 2 without lever who will get the job

There's certainly been extra motivation for each of the teams that beat us...

Essendon - Hird hates us. They just missed out on a win the week prior. They were still "riding the high" of the drugs case decision.
Port Adelaide - At home. Were fired up to get some redemption for the PF result. 1st quarter was amazing but they burnt out after that and it was our wastefulness going inside 50 that ultimately cost us.
GWS - At home. Copping it in the media. Actually aren't bad any more and I think our side didn't show them the respect they deserved especially with our outs. We deserved to lose this one.
Sydney - Redemption for the GF. Again, amazing 1st quarter but burnt out after that quite a bit. Good coaching move to push McVeigh forward in the last quarter but we were unlucky not to have got just one more goal in that last quarter (Gunston poster, Breust close miss, Rioli fumble).

These are reasons however. Not excuses. We have just as much motivation to win games as any other side. But I do think in general teams have tried to dig a little deeper when they come up against us.

Now we're midway through the season and only sitting 6th it will be interesting to see if teams still treat us that same way or if they'll be saving it for Freo and Sydney.
Ask Ross about that one

Roughead is in such horrid form at the moment that you might even be able to get away with Cheney on him and then put Talia on Gunston.

Not surprised they announced Sloane's signing just before this game. Hawks better brace themselves for another side hitting them hard early.

In saying that, Crows are, like us, one of the worst starting teams in the comp. So will be an interesting first quarter!

Is it normal for a team playing on a Sunday before the bye to have to play on the Thursday after the bye, making their break shorter than the full two weeks or is this something instigated specially for Hawthorn? (Reaches for tin hat..)
I thought that too. It's subtle but the best "they" could do to undermine us in the circumstances.

Isn't putting two red heads on each other like trying to two magnets with the same polarity together? The universe has laws against it!
