4 Quarters

Please forgive me for venting, but can someone remind that side of the old saying "4 Quarters".

Is this club EVER going to be able to play on the big stage instead of getting stage fright in front of a big crowd for the first half of a match? I think not.

I have watched this for years & just when I get my hopes up that maybe MAYBE we are a club that can have confidence to beat anyone with the skills we have....and then the same old.

How could we ever win a grand final with these sort of nerves or whatever it is we get? Even if they get there they'd bog themselves!:(

Just said the same thing in another thread. We couldn't even play 4 qtrs last week when half a hawthorn team showed up.

I just don't understand how after all the hype during the week, big stage friday night footy, 2 red hot clubs, top 4 potentially on the line and we come out with that intensity.

Not overreacting but that effort tonight could seriously come back to bite us in the ass and cost us a top 4... for those who haven't looked at our draw it aint pretty.

Just rewatching the last quarter on seven...

Some of our players need to learn that when the pressures on, which it will be during finals to back themselves a bit more and try to hit a target instead of bombing it long into the forward line because we dont have players like Riewoldt or Gardiner who will take a huge grab when players from the opposing team have flooded back. In some situations they didnt have time but quite often they did and opted for the long bomb.

Thing is people believe you need a big forward to win you a premiership and the only reason why this theory exists is because when the game gets tight which it usually does in finals, players tend to just bomb it long and the big forward provides a get out of jail card. This was obvious in the Geelong Saints match. When it got tight players like Gardiner took massive pack marks, whereas Geelong got it in the forward plenty of times but most of the time they didnt hit a target and it went to a pack contest and it went to ground which enabled a Saints rebound.

Hopefully our players have enough experience and composure to not turn it over so easily and hit targets in our forward 50 because when we're on we tend to be very efficient when going forward.

Also when there was 17 seconds left how funny was Minson. He tried to punch it hard from the bounce and it barely scraped his fist, then got the ball again and went for a big kick in the hope someone would mark it around the forward 50 and shanked it :D

In the end it was good that we came back to gain the experience of pressure football which will run for 4 quarters when playing finals. Hopefully next week we can put away teams like Essendon in 4 complete quarters to make sure we have a top 4 spot.

Just mirrored these comments in another thread. Their complacency and inability to mentally prepare for 4 quarters is something which should have been dealt with a long time ago. It sometimes feels they turn up for a friendly game of kick to kick.

Houston we have a problem :(
