Past #24: Sam Durdin - delisted after 21 NM games/1 NM goal - thanks Durds (drafted by Carlton in '22 MSD)

He's been one of the best defenders in the comp in the VFL has he?

Must of missed all of those performances over the last 7 years.
Absolutely you have missed them.

He is comfortably above VFL level, but perhaps not quite AFL. He is probably delisted at years end but cut the revisionist bullshit Pykie to suit your narrative. You jump on the Hosie and Murphy threads 'this guys got something' when they have shown very little, in fact less than Sam but it's a bit speculative so that if they do make it you can say in a few years 'I told you so.'

Comfortably above VFL level? No, sorry. Comfortably VFL level? Yes.

He's been named in our bests 8 times in 5 years.

McKay has been a much better defender at VFL level.

Anyway, I'm not going to keep shitting on the guy ~ 21 games in 6 years from a former first round pick probably settles this debate.

As for the other two, yes, they have shown bits and peices. 1 has been on the list for 12 months, the other is in his 3rd season. Not his 6th, the latter is long enough to have made an informed judgement.

You do realise Hosie would of won the Frosty Miller in the VFL last year if he played the whole year in Victoria? He's shown plenty at the lower level, more than Sam ever has in a much shorter time period. (Named in the bests 4 times from 7 total games...)

He didn't finish top 10 in our VFL best and fairest last year.

What an absolute rubbish post.

Missed start of last year with his finger. Played 3 VFL games. Promoted on the back of his near BOG against the VFL premiers. I repeat played 3 VFL games. Played 10 senior games. Could be why he didn't poll so well in the BNF.

Helps to actually watch rather than Google bnf results mate.

And what has McKay got to do with anything. Sam is 4th in line, clearly.

I edited my post prior to this, remembering his finger injury.

Not that I really care, he is clearly not to standard. What are you arguing?

I'll freely admit that Murphy and Hosie probably get delisted, I just want to see a bit more of them before casting judgement.

Are you really saying Sam needs more time to show something?

Sam has taken 8 contested marks in his entire AFL career. Josh Walker has taken 22 this year alone.

There are much better defenders out there for essentially nothing and he is out of contract.

He has had plenty of opportunity that others before him didn't receive.

Hahaha Remembering his finger injury and his 10 senior games. Unfortunately you can't delete it from my quote. I'm not arguing, just pointing out some typical grandstanding, flawed logic and terribly uniformed reference to his 2019 BNF position. Enjoy your day Pykie.

I would be happy to retain Sam as a rookie for depth. Nothing more. But his papers are probably stamped. No need to shit on the kid which you habitually do on anyone that draws your ire

Pykie just how many times are you going to edit your posts?

I edited it as soon as I posted. You were pretty quick on the reply though.

Lol, then stop biting in this thread, I replied to a comment regarding if we are able to find anyone better? Quite clearly we already did this year.

The end.

Whilst revising the whole kids career. Anyway, your howler of a 2019 reference is nicely stamped in my comment. The end.

I think the best defences in the League at the moment are West Coast and Richmond, not only for their defensive capabilities but also for their danger on turnover and rebound. Both have similar characteristics and have players who are flexabile and can play small/tall, are generally very athletic with good speed and agility and predominantly decent users.

I really hope Rhys is transitioning our defence into a back 6 that is shorter and punchier on turnover and switch. Guys like EVW, Kyron and Bonar give us the flexibility and compliment Robbie, McKay and Walker well. I would suggest Durds is a 2 spots out of the team and behind Majak who has probably lost his spot to Walker.

maybe retain as a rookie as i am not offended by his presence in the team when he is selected but i think he doesn't have the attributes to be a long term first choice option.

good luck to the kid, seems like a good fella.

Feel for Durds. Comes to the club as a first round selection, never hit his straps, few injuries and prob years and years of living under constant stress and pressure. Contested up forward tonight and brought it to ground, in dry conditions who knows sticks a couple and we all want him hanging around on a one year deal. If he gets delisted I understand why, but if we keep him as insurance I won’t be disappointed, at worst is 196cm 90kg defender with AFL experience

Feel bad for the guy . Looked gutted in the rooms , but at the end of the day Sam didn’t reach the heights that he , the club or us supporter’s were hoping he would ... we need players who will have impact on games for us to be a better team. Best of luck to Sam in whatever he decides in the future .
