If we get corr and draft a kpd , you’d think he’s gonski.

Im not too sure why people here constantly wants Durdin gone. If David Astbury is anything to go back, sticking with durdin will net results. He is turning 25 in 2021, so he is getting to his prime. Tarrant is 1 injury away from being finished so it's not too off the road if Tarrant gets a major injury in 2021. The thing with key defender is that, they take much longer to get into when everything is the same but once they are in, they can stay for a longtime and will provide lot's of benefit. They are like the wicket keepers, teams don't change keepers regularly. So by the end of this season, Mackay and Durdin cementing key defensive posts would go along way to settle set the team up structurally for the next 5 years. Then you add Larkey and Walker, the spine is suddenly straightened once more. We injected game time into a whole bunch of kids, once again we are developing the core. Injuries to Ziebell and cunnington probably will be the most important event that propelled us forward.

At the moment he's solid depth. Certainly wouldn't be the first I'd cut given the age of Tarrant and the structural benefits of having a spare mature KP player.

It would seem that way.

Shame as a 1st round pick.

The same round pick we should tank for to guarantee we will improve, ironically for many........

Pick 16 is lightyears different than pick 2. I'm not defending tanking, but that's just a dishonest point.

A tad harsh I would have thought. Hasn’t really ever played poorly but is always first out. Would have thought he should have played the rest of the year to audition himself. Especially in front of Tazz who gains nothing but risks everything playing.

If you're still needing to audition yourself in your 6th season on the list...

Of course.

It's equally dishonest winning a game or two means we end up with pick near 16.

It will still be far closer to pick 2.

We can finish second last and we will not have pick 2.

If we finish 15 we likely don't have a pick in the top 5.

Do you get how tainted the draft actually is?

It's not my speciality no.

But a win or two in home run won't affect us too much imo plus give momentum to next year.

No one's claiming we'll end up anywhere near pick 16. If we scrape a handful of wins though what is more than possible is that we end up with pick 4. Still a good pick, but in a year where there appears to be a clear top 4 echelon of unaligned players (AKA only 4 'great' players not being stolen via bs academy picks) it becomes the difference between choosing the one that suits us best and having the choice made for us. God forbid we end up with a worse pick though, because while it's still quality there's a bit more unknown this year.

Also god forbid if Sydney get a higher pick than us. Considering their academy rort this year that would be absolutely ****ing disastrous and would set them up disgustingly well.

Fair enough Devington.

I still want to win.

I don't believe in this Super draft, only certain top players at top etc.

It's proven wrong nearly every year. (admittedly GC done extremely well last draft at top)

It's less about it being a 'Super Draft' and more about it being a 'Super Compromised Draft' due to NGA picks and COVID ****ing the underage leagues into the dirt. From what I read that top handful of players are as locked in to be elite, or near elite, 200+ game players as any other crop of kids on a given year. Outside of them though shit gets really murky really fast.

That may be right mate.

Boyd a certain star, Patton a certain star, etc etc. Things happen mentally and physically.

So yes ok you are discussing this high pick priority yet I prefer our team to start winning WITH our young players in the team.

Agree to disagree.

You don't have to look too by referencing David Astbury, he was a whipping boy for half a decade and now when given a sustained run in the side, a very dependable defender. Getting rid of durdin would be a stupid decision.

Getting "momentum" from dead rubber wins has gotten us here.

I don't agree.

We are here due to an inept coach we bizarrely gave a decade.

This is a new squad with a new coaching framework.

Wins are important for all involved, if not wins then clear direction which when you see who has and hasn't been selected is obvious.
