Round 9, upgrade season, downgrade desperation, and the forward rookie cupboard has officially been declared a disaster zone.
Spider Eater didn't produce the goods with a song, and The_Steadier and No eye deer still haven't stood up and delivered a decent thread opener, or even a one-line thread opener, despite having a go at mine. Maybe one day.
Anyway, back to Round 9. The good news is there are actually some options this week.
The bad news is most of them come with the usual rookie tax of “he looks alright, but will he still be playing in a fortnight?”
MIDFIELD
Sam Cumming is on the bubble and looks the goods, but at $176k he is not exactly basement priced.
Burton is the cheaper route at $99k, also on the bubble, and probably the better pure cash grab if you are trying to squeeze every dollar out of your downgrade.
Yes, job security might be a concern, but at this time of year that matters a little less. Park Burton at M11, bank the extra cash, and if he gets dropped, Richmond play enough late games that he can become a handy loop. M9 and M10 can be the emergency cover.
Burton scoring 60's every week gives the same cash gen as Cumming scoring 80's every week. The former is probably more likely than the latter. But he also gives you an extra 77k in the bank if you pick him up instead of Cumming. When you take that in to consideration, Cumming needs to score 118 every week for the next four weeks to net you the same cash as Burton if goes at 60. That ain't happening people.
DEFENCE
Busslinger is the expensive option at $215k, but with Lobb out for a month or so, there might be a real scoring and cash generation window there.
The cheap option is Will Edwards at the Swans at $119k. He has looked good enough in both games, even if it has not translated into a decent score yet.
With defensive rookies looking thinner than Stephen King’s logic for playing Sir Max forward, this might be the week to double downgrade down back and cash out properly.
FORWARDS
Zero.
Zilch.
Nothing.
The forward rookie cupboard is so bare it has an echo.
The only real option is Arty Jones if you do not already have him. That injury affected 21 is about to drop out of his cycle, so there is still one price rise to chase.
PREMOS
Finn is available at $499k after Scythe broke him good and proper. Thanks for your service, Scythe.
Shitfield is there too, but you know how this ends. He will burn you. He will miss a game. He will make you question every decision that led you to this point. And you'll be wondering why the **** you did it to yourself. Again. Right, WaynesWorld19
Bailey Dale
looks a very nice option down back. Back in form, priced well, and cheap compared to what he has produced historically.
And if you still don't have Kozzie, delete your team, or get him this week - the Dees have West Coast this weekend and it could get very ugly. Get on my beautiful ex-POD.
Suitcase is getting a lot of chat, but he still has not cracked the ton this year and has a BE of 98. You can wait. Take another look.
Noah Anderson
is another one Scythe absolutely murdered. He looks like a victim of Trac’s injection into the midfield and has not scored a ton since playing West Coast in Round 1.
TIME TO GO
Grlj, Farrow, Jaques, Blamires, J Serong, Robertson, Lombard.
Good luck!!
