The telecast times varied from 10:30 pm-12am depending on C9 Sunday night schedule.

An hour, or 5-10 minutes?
It was always a LOT more than 5-10 min of those two waffling away. It may have only been 30 min, not an hour, but it was always a lot more than 5-10 min.

Thank God there is F1 again because footy is currently dead to me

Keen for this race, love the Japanese GP, always an eventful race, and such an amazing track.

Its still only FP1 but so far TSU has actually been neck and neck with VER, only being a tenth off

Meanwhile....LAW is still 3 tenths off his RB teammate

Hopefully Lawson's confidence hasn't been completely shattered by his experience with the Red Bull (team & car).

Scratch that... this is Lawson we're talking about. Hopefully his confidence HAS been shattered.

Did I read that Alpine has replaced Jack Doohan?
Only for FP1.

Teams have to have rookies drive FP1 for at least 1 (2 or 3?) races per year. Alpine are taking advantage of the Japanese GP to put a Japanese driver in the car, knocking off the rookie/FP1 requirement in front of a home crowd.

Scratch that... Teams are now required to run rookies in 4x FP1 sessions in 2025. Given that they won't be doing it during Sprint weekends, this makes the Japanese F1 GP a very strong candidate for getting the requirement out of the way.

The definition of a rookie is a driver who hasn't completed 2x F1 GP. This means that Doohan counted as a rookie in Melbourne, so he only needs to be replaced by another rookie driver once this season (i.e. today); Bortoletto, Hadjar & Antonelli all counted as rookies in Melbourne & China - thus there is no requirement for replacing these drivers in FP1 at any stage this season. All other drivers will need to be replaced 2x in FP1s at some point this year.
