I’ve been shook for 3 straight days, I am still in disbelief we got Lalor smillie hotton ON TOP of faull AND f en Armstrong!
Then got the best interceptor in trainor and norf gave us a first rounder for pick 27!
Is this real life? This is unbelievable
How good is this
Has there ever been a bigger stuff up in the trade/Draft period than what Norf have achieved this year.
Pick 25 for Daniels
Hold on we need more experience
Grab 2 roasted ducks on Darling & Parker.
Wait there's more
They're so embarrassed they don't take the Kid that they really want because it's a reach. So they Draft a kid who they have a truck load of.
Too top it off in a move too try and save face they give up a f1 for pick 28 which in the end they could've got if they kept 25.
What else could go wrong?
Wooden spoon next year but no 1st pick?
What a **** up.

Recruiting TT and Hopper has actually worked out perfectly. Those picks would have secured us the likes of Hobbs, Erasmus, Allan (Pies player) ….

I’m much more confident on the development of our draftees supported by the big experienced bodies of TT and Hopper than I would’ve been if they were supported by Ross, Dow and Hobbs.

Even having Kosi as a big body with the right attitude off-field isn’t the worst thing to have in the event Lynch gets injured early or Gibcus doesn’t return.

Not saying this was our plan all along, but with 9 x top-30 picks coming in across 2024/25 it has worked out nicely to have model senior citizens for these guys to see what it takes - it’s something that’s been missing at North and they’ve had to bring in Daniel, Darling and Parker 6-years into their rebuild.

Guys, I'm picturing it, 5 years from now The Blair Hartley 8 have all won their first premiership together. The draft photo is contrasted with the same 8 boys, now men, holding their Premiership Medals (Lalor Norm Smith). We will look back and say that all coming is as a group created the strongest bond and willingness to do what it takes to win a flag.
While Saints are still on their 5 decade search for their 2nd.

Copywood then realize after plummeting to the bottom of the ladder when they lose 80% of their list to retirement in 2 seasons, that you need to recruit kids who aren't just good players but already have a special bond throughout juniors so go about trying to recruit 3 players who have played junior basketball together.

This may've been mentioned already but v interesting to hear Sandy coach Rob Harding say Trainor has the capacity to be a tall wingman, inside mid, forward, lock down defender or the attacking intercept type.

Listened to a fair bit of harding and yet to hear him speak of another player with such versatility in this year's crop.
Bodes well hopefully
from memory Kmac, was recruited as a defender, but quickly established himself on the wing. If he’s got the same tank as Kmac, he could slot into the wing role, albeit it’s a tough role first up.I could see him slotting straight into a running hb role, then after a couple of preseasons playing Broadys role.
I don’t think he attended the combine, so not sure what sort of tank he has, but guessing it’s pretty bloody impressive.

McCrap is only in it for the here and now…he will leave the club in a mess ( I’m fine with that actually)

Now that I’m back I have noticed there has been no fondling at AFL house over the no 1 draft pick ussualy they are gushing oil wells about this , what’s different this year?
Pretty simple that the top of the draft was so even that they weren't talking about Lalor all year. Reid was pick no.1 all last year and the entire year it was who will get him by finishing bottom. He is very good and everyone knew that, so you could hype him up and generate clicks.

I don't remember really anything about Cadman after he was picked #1 for example.

Yep, they are going to pay a heavy price for what they’ve done last few years. Lachie Schulz😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
We should thank the Pies.if they didn't chase Shultz then Freo couldn't give us what we got.

Would love to see these kids create an environment like the Hawks kids have.

Reckon young players would be frothing to join this group in a few years.
Rather they stay the Richmond way.
Respectful & Humble.

If we do have picks 1&2 next year and the best player ends up being a key tall do we still take 2 midfielders, take the 2 best players, which could include the key tall, or trade the 2nd for later picks and futures?

Agree. Being a pack of w***ers is fine while you're winning but everyone will be coming for these kids if the losses start piling up. It gets stale real quick. See J.Higgins - Richmond as an example. Everyone will just question their professionalism.

two key things that our premiership heroes had in common were 1. They were TOUGH and BRAVE and LOVED the contest, 2. They wanted to WIN. Dusty, Cotchin, astbury, grimes, vlaustin, baker, lynch, jack, lambert, nank etc. we may have overlooked some more talented players in the draft last week but most of our new draftees have these two things I reckon. Thats what win grand finals (and most importantly prelims because they are the toughest to win I reckon)
I thought it was the obvious.

Think it'll be 2 mids no matter what.

Collingwood is doing the same thing that we did a couple of seasons ago when we recruited Taranto and Hopper. They are trading out their early picks to have an unrealistic last crack with their aging core of players who are past their prime.

Three decades of bad luck, poor decisions and utter pain, seem to have won us a new era of good luck, great decisions and pure joy. After a dynasty of three, how many clubs have the fortune of being able to immediately rebuild with six first round draft picks and eight quality kids?

Forget the CEO, forget the coach; it our Head Recruiter that is the most important man at our club now and he is leading us quickly out of the doldrums to euphoric success! We love you Blair!
