But you will be up against Tredders, if he runs again.

This is the issue, and it's why we need more member voted directors, even if it's not total control.

We get a vote 2/3 years and because of the bullshit yes-men stagnant board Koch has fostered, those member elected positions are almost always going to be filled by someone high profile. The average supporter has no real control.

There should be at least 6 elected out of 10, given board members have 3 year terms, so that there are 2 people who can be elected every year, if at least 3 people nominate every year.

Hi,
I am Christopher Fitridge, one of the board election candidates.

You can be rest assured that fans and members are at the forefront of my action plan, and will have your best interests in my decision making with the board. Fans and members are the most important stakeholder in any football club.

I would appreciate your vote. My email address is on my Candidate Statement if you have any questions.

Thanks

Hi Christopher,

I’ll keep this short and simple.

What I would like for you if you get voted in as a board member is to do these things.

- Please bring back accountability and demand excellence for the president from the last person that walks out the door each day.

- Please be as honest and transparent as possible to us, the supporters, and please demand from other board members. (We aren’t stupid, silly, white noise, or bastards, as referred to by a certain board member that views the members in this view.)

If not, we will vote you out.

- Please advocate to the best of your ability to the board to create a members-elected board. In 2028, the Adelaide Crows will have a fully-members elect board, as it’s written in their constitution. With all the unhappiness about a lack of success and ruthlessness that was shown in previous administrations under the Port Magpies, it's about time that our club goes back to that and us the members.

- Please sack Hinkley and, with a huge broom, sweep out any person that’s putting our club behind.

Thanks for reading this.

Kind Regards,
Portwrld

Rob SNOWDON OAM
Current
Director, Port Adelaide Football Club (2022-present)
• Chair, Power Community Limited
• Member, Football Strategic Committee
• Chair, Specialised Assistance School for Youth (2019-present)
Previous
• Director, The Paraplegic and Quadriplegic Association of SA (2017-2024)
• Chair, Country Fire Service Foundation (2010-2020)
• General Manager, SA Power Networks (2005-2017)
• General Manager Football Operations, Port Adelaide Football Club (1997-2002)
• General Manager Football Operations, Sydney Football Club (1990-1997)
AFL football experience, governance, leadership, strategy, financial and business acumen
I have completed three years as a member-elected Director of the Port Adelaide Football Club and
offer myself for re-election, which I hope is supported by members.
During the term I believe I have made a positive contribution to all aspects of our strategic
direction, with a particular focus on on-field performance and financial sustainability.
The club is in good shape on and off field.
We have been AFL finalists in recent years and are in a strong financial position (record
membership, surpluses, healthy balance sheet, good facilities) and I would like to continue as a
director, to add my voice to all aspects of our continual improvement and growth.
In a good position on field.
C'arn mate!
How many flags have we won in the last 20 years?
How many GF's in the last 15 years?
We are average!
If you think you've done a brilliant job, and are happy to pat yourself on the back, then you're not the candidate we need.

My thoughts:

Snowden - pale, stale, insipid, believes his own fan club, oblivious to our issues. An absolute no brainer NO for mine.

Fitridge - well done for having the courage to put himself out there. Already got enough accountant's on the Board though. Does recognise fan base disconnect is vital. Wouldn't be my primary choice, and unsure if he could influence behavioural change, but we could certainly do worse.

Fiacchi - saying all the right things. Demonstrated capacity to unite a divided club before (One Club). Empathetic to fan base. Hoping he realises older rusted on fans mean just as much as newer fans who are just sling for the ride and happy to accept mediocrity! My first choice, but still have some reservations. Not only a past player, but also a quite successful small businessman.

So, 3 candidates. One a failure. One a second term try hard. One inexperienced in the political machinations of this club.

Really hope a ticket of diverse candidates with a cross section of appropriate skill sets, put themselves up for election sometime.

Sick and worn out waiting for positive change, instead of the rinse and repeat of what has lead to multiple failures.

FishingRick was my first thought when I heard that the 3rd candidate was an accountant. I thought he had snuck in without telling us.
I’m the least accountant Accountant there is to be honest.

Kris is trying to hard with corporate lingo if you ask me and just will be another number person on the board.

George would have to be the ticket.

The way the system is now, someone like myself would never win against one of these more profile candidates.

However my ticket would simply be listen the members and keep the bastards honest. At the moment we’re all being fed a lot of corporate spin and bullshit. We don’t need people pissing in pockets, just people getting the job done.

If anything the new board member mantra should be to get some board movement rather than the stagnant ivory tower we have now!

Thank you for your message.

I have no alignment or relationship with any current board member, so what I can categorically say is that I have no issue with forming my own thoughts about issues, with our members in the forefront of my decision making. I want to bridge the gap that seems to be forming, and having a look through this thread, there is discontent for sure.

When it comes to being transparent, I will be as transparent as I can be. There would obviously be some things that would have to stay in house, and it would not be my job to speak for the board either. But when I can, and I see an opportunity for an issue that needs clarification, I will be on the front foot with the members.

With the future of the Board, whether the Board be fully member-elect, or part, I think two out of nine is probably not enough. We have 70k plus members now, us as members need and deserve more of a say on the Board.

With Ken, this is the last year of his contract, without knowing the ins and out, and from what is in the public sphere, the bar would be very high for him to coach past 2025. I am not sure whether the board regrets the 'In August' mantra from 2023, but we cannot be making that mistake again. Any decision would have to be made either on an ad hoc basis, that being if he is to be relieved mid season, or post a finals campaign. I do hope the latter, as this would mean we are playing finals. But as said above, the bar would be very high for him to coach again. It sounds like the word around is Premiership or bust.

Thanks

Dunno if this has been brought up before, but saw a thread on main board, so decided to look into it. By this report, our brand value is 9th in the AFL. Slightly below West Coast, slightly above Sydney. Well above Adelaide. Seems a pretty flawed assessment, I mean West Coast are the biggest club in the league and Sydney are the darlings of the country's most important city, but no doubt the big nosed bald one will reference it at some point.

Hi Chris,

Appreciate you putting yourself forward and reaching out to folks on this forum to answer questions etc.

The 3 main issues for mine are Ken, unaccountability within the club as a whole at all levels, & disconnect between club and fans, and fans themselves.

And just on your last line, at least since the 21 prelim debacle, Ken's reportedly been coaching to a "premiership or bust" ultimatum every season, only for the narrative to change late in the year and for the club to double down and herald what a remarkable job he's done and how much the players adore him and want him to continue coaching. I honestly semi expect this season to go the same way and would not be at all surprised if he is granted an extension almost regardless of results. People in high places writing their own narrative, dancing to their own tune and looking out for themselves. It's supremely frustrating & encapsulates a lot of the current issues we have at the moment. My optimism and interest in the club is basically non existent. So much is stale and needs genuine reform and re-invigoration, less of Kochs idea of what we should be (a corporatised little battler from suburban ADL just happy to exist with with the big dogs) and more of Fos's idea of what we should be.

This was discussed about 6 weeks ago. I wrote it was meaningless drible, but I also found the link to page of the report on the relevant company's website, who put this out, at the following post and discussed why they probably ranked us so high - "known for its passionate fanbase and innovative approach."

Why can't anyone run with this agenda:

  • Invest in football operations, attract the best talent (read between the lines - stop the ****ing nepo garbage)
  • Hold staff accountable for performance + we exist to win premierships
  • Member board control

That's it. That's the ticket.
What we'll get:
  • Own the corridor
  • Give a shit
  • Block the noise

In terms of the new generation, we have a women's team who is doing wonderfully, and we need to harness these new fans of our football club, with the family environment that the women's football brings. If we can transition this family environment to the men's and the whole club, one big family, we can make sure this club is successful.

what do you mean by successful?

I agree with those three, with the last two part of my main agenda. Members deserve better. We deserve to know what is going on, and what our membership money is going towards.

I have commented on Ken, last year of his contract. From what I have gathered in public commentary it would be a stretch to see him coaching past 2025. If 2025 is similar to 2024, he may not even want to go on. We shall see!

If we can transition this family environment to the men's and the whole club, one big family, we can make sure this club is successful.

Also, in this new age of social media etc, rightly or wrongly, we consume our information in different ways, and the board being more transparent with fans, our number one stakeholder, is paramount.

I am a fan first and foremost, and want our voices heard at board level.
I've re-read your replies and trust I have been interpreting correctly.

Stating the obvious, the Port Adelaide Football Club is first and foremost a football club. Everything and I mean everything builds from there.

Unfortunately Koch and Co have spent way too much time on peripherals and no where enough on the football side. For example the appalling performance of the Magpies. The Z grade coaching/development panel for both teams.

Yes things have changed over the years but focusing on 'family environment' does not win football matches and if the general chat in the Black Diamond area in which we used to sit is any indication, members could not give a rats about 'family environment' and only want to see skilled on field PAFC teams.
