Surely Watson has slipped down the board. Has nice highlights but doesn’t impact games from what I’ve watched.
Mckertcher well ahead, Curtin plays a more valuable role and much higher ceiling, I don’t love Dursma but the man kicks 2-3 goals every game. Go further back and O’Sulivan a leading marker in Coates league as key back. Sanders averages over 30 disposals.
Just opinion. Only thing that Watson offers that early is a position we need. One though that you can find later in the draft or a position that develops quickly and can play early. Unlike KPP that take years to develop
If only it was that easy. One position we've failed to replace since Boof and Flash were here.

mid to late picks, both.

Just because the club hasn't done it, doesn't mean it can't be done...and definitely means you don't throw such draft capital at a player like that. IMO.

Are we still a chance with Zac Fisher ?

Wanting to find small forwards to complement the likes of Cameron Zurhaar and Nick Larkey in attack, Fisher could be an ideal and cheaper ready-made target for the Roos to consider.

As I posted 110 pages back.

We've already seen Kozzie and Cody break barriers when they were taken in the first round, hopefully we are the ones who take the chance and takes him in the top 10. He is unique.

And just to add what I've heard from multiple contacts, Clarko loves Watto. Whether the club pulls the trigger, that's a different story.

Agree on that. We have tried a number of ways to fill it. A lot of players with good effort that can cause pressure. Still none that can kick goals
I wouldn’t be against getting Watson but just rate him below the others. Definitely would plug a hole immediately in our list though and immediately play games for us.

We don’t need Reid or Sanders. Or any player that involves decreasing a draft hand we worked hard to increase.

I don’t know why we don’t just take picks 2, 3 & 16 to the draft.( it looks pretty clear we will get band one for McKay)

If the weagles want Curtin instead of Reid, we shouldn’t have to offer up a draft pick so they can save face.

If the weagles want Reid then they got him.

Regardless, we could just take say…McKercher and Duursma with 2&3 and take the best KDP available at 16
Not a disaster. A long way from it.

If North can’t live in a universe where they don’t get Reid, they should not have fielded anything close to our best team against GC
They made the right call beating the suns.
The club needed it. The players needed it.
The supporters sure as hell needed it.

We don’t need Reid.

I suspect the Weagles are making noises about taking Reid and forcing a substantial trade because they somehow know that North will not be drafting Curtin under any circumstances. Wheels within wheels.

We need to hold our nerve and leave them with their precious, single draft pick in the first round.

And leave us with our 3(or 4 if we aren’t rogered by the AFL over Sanders)
I’ve only just come across this post but it is perhaps the most insightful I have seen from an opposition board. We need our picks as they stand and you need your picks as they stand. Pick 14 is going to give you a lot of good KPP options without reaching and is hugely valuable thanks to Port’s inevitable f**k up. If we are stupid enough to take Curtin at 1 (I hope we aren’t) then we get what we deserve but I don’t think #1 is leaving WCE without getting #2 and #3 back as part of the deal which would be stupid by North. Both clubs need to stick to their guns and everything will work out just fine.

I don't know what it looks like but I reckon a deal could be done that involves 2 but not 3.

Is there any other club that you would trade you feel you’d be prepared to trade for pick 1? Eg Melbournes freo pick (6 I believe) their pick 13 plus their future first? Although the freo pick likely pushed out to 8 or 9 with Gold Coast academy ect

If only Freo had some draft capital that could make them an option to trade into a position to draft Curtain.

This would allow us to toy with WC that if they don’t draft curtin at #1 Freo is super keen and we would be willing to deal with them and this would end all possibilities of them ever getting him as he would be likely to stay at Freo his career.

But they don’t have anything worthy of a trade to allow them to get into this position to offer us anything of value for pick 2 unfortunately.

I am super keen on Reid so I want WC to want Curtin enough to be reasonable with us over a trade for pick 1…

Next years first… still have that guy feeling they won’t be as low next year as they were this year

I should preface this by saying I don’t want to trade pick 1 under any circumstance other than the most one sided trade in history. I wouldn’t have thought there are any clubs other than North that could put forward a satisfactory trade in the eyes of our list managers. In simple terms I rate the draft like this:

Reid
Daylight
McKercher/Walter
Daylight
Picks 4-10
Daylight
Everyone else

I don’t like to think of it in terms of picks, I like to think of it in terms of players. I think we’d give up Reid if the trade meant we get McKercher and Curtin. That’s the only scenario I see us trading which eliminates everyone except North so up to you guys to come up with something that ends with that result. Obviously as it gets closer to draft night we’ll all be more aware of Hawthorn and Gold Coast’s intentions with their picks, which is probably the information the Eagles need to make a decision. If you look at the players likely to be available with your picks as they stand you should absolutely keep your draft hand as is, rather than trade up for Reid. If Clarko wanted Reid so badly I guarantee you as your colleague said, North would have lost that last game to Gold Coast.

Pick 2 or 3 for Brayshaw?

I could stomach that a lot more than losing first rounders to get Reid.

Assuming pick 11 assistance, and Mackay 3.

My preferences:
1st) 2 & 11 for Reid & 19
2) 2 & 14 for Reid
3) 2 & 11 for Reid & 35
4) Take 2, 3, 11, 14 to draft
5) Trade GC: 4 for 11&14

If AFL give us a pick 11, it's with a deal done already imo.

I think it's worth paying for Reid, with the intangibles of having Marquee player, potentially a match winner, you cough up a pick in the teens and don't think twice.

If Reid adds to the wardlaw & sheezel hype, you get pick 14 value back with the ease...

We just traded an F2 for Logue who was Pick 8. No superstar, but an example of recovering pick 11-14 value.

North don't attract stars of the competition. And in an unprecedented manner, just lost an interstate bosom suckler pick 1.

So, when there's a pick 1 on offer, who's a Victorian, who's requesting to remain in Victoria, who can play at both ends, wins matches, will drum up hype, potentially becoming a marquee face of the game, and your North melbourne, the least attractive club in the state, with no hope of ever trading or recruiting said player, you grab that opportunity with both hands in my opinion.

Thinking pick 14 moves the rebuild needle more than Reid is a bit of a head scratcher from how I see it.

But we all see things differently.

2 AND 3, for 1...I can see that being egregious for sure.

But coughing up 11, or 14... which becomes 14 and 17... whatever. It's a pick in the teens, who gives a...
I’d love it!

The reality is we are one of the slowest teams in the comp so while he’s not necessarily my first preference as I really dislike how he plays for frees but I think we need to get Watson. Every coach talks about speed on the ball. Voss made mention to getting speed on the ball was a big factor in winning the game. Watson is quick and slippery. The next pick we get a tall kpp. Then with our next picks we see what’s available. But I would be looking to bring speed in.
