Fixture has finally been released (1 day early).

Gill would have been fuming it was leaked by The Age :laughv1:

there is a little place called Melbourne.

Would have preferred another opponent than a SA club on the Gather Round, good spot to visit.

Showed my partner the fixture and explained to her the situation. Her suggestion was we go home (she's originally from Melbourne too) for a trip.

The thing about Gather Round that was/is so appealing is that I have family involved in multiple clubs (currently Saints and Suns, still lots of attachment to people at Carlton, Hawthorn, a couple of others) so when it was announced we made immediate plans to be in the same city at the same time. Just a unique situation.

You're right though. Time to go home.

Rounds 1-12: We play against 7 Top 8 sides from 2022 (including a run of Lions, Dogs, Pies, Swans and Dees between rounds 8 and 12).

Rounds 13-24: We play against 3 Top 8 sides from 2022 (Dockers, Pies and Dees)

First half of the year is going to be absolutely critical if we are going to have some success in 23'.

If we go 6-6 in the first half and 8-4 in the second half of the season that’s guaranteed finals.

I think we can do better than that.

I do too. A game both sides. 16 wins is a big jump but a combination of improvement from within, luck with injuries, and the additions of Acres and our draftees 15-16 win season isn't beyond this group.

Then it's about solidifying things and that premiership window 2024 and beyond is wide open.

Looks a reasonable draw to me. If we can keep the list relatively healthy, this draw doesn’t hold too many fears. Of the double up teams, Melbourne are the only one I think we wouldn’t be favoured against, but I also respect the fact that Collingwood, Saints and GC have each given us trouble in different ways over the past few years. Only one trip to AO against Adelaide is a win from the perspective that we struggle at the ground (haven’t won yet), but obviously disappointing for our SA Baggers.

The AFL want to have their cake and eat it too - they want to ream us fixture wise - and grab the cash we’ll generate as the biggest away drawing team in the AFL.

Huh ? We have one of the easiest (on paper) fixtures on paper. Happy we get Geelong early and only once (hopefully still nursing a premiership hangover)

It's a great fixture for us imo.
And interstate, SA and WA Bluebaggers get to watch us live too.

Ticks almost every item I had on my fixture wish list.

I like our fixture. We get most of the good teams before they start hitting their straps and we also have a reasonable run with our double up games.

7-5 or better at the halfway mark gets us in with a real chance of top 4 imo.

Have you seen the Pies- cam 4 th
Only play double ups against 2 finalists ( some of the other finalist play 4 teams that made finals)
Play 4 games interstate against interstate teams, none of whom made the finals.

That’s a draw you want

Our last 8 or 9 games look a lot easier in 2023 then our run in home this season.

I can see Melbourne being sliders this year a bit without Jackson and an aging squad with not a strong forward line (KPP wise)

We owe St Kilda some payback, I want us to flog them twice.

Lost Jackson but gain Grundy, can’t see them dropping to far.

wish people would quit talking up our chances relative to opposition form/injuries, match location, player "tiredness", price of anchovies etc - we beat who we play - the end.........

On paper this is a very favorable draw but I am still frustrated because
1. We only play Richmond and Essendon once. How on earth can we not play 2 of our traditional rivals twice? I know we got Collingwood twice but still.
2. Too many "home" games at Marvel. A club as prestigious as ours should be playing majority of home games at the G. Someone needs to abolish this nonsense contract that makes us play all these home games at Marvel.
