Pleasantly surprising comfortable win by us. Some shocking disposal by foot, but tackling and pressure absolutely supreme. Like what Buzza brings to the team.
Any other players that stood out and looked capable of playing at AFL level
I felt Tunstill played much better on ball in the intraclub games compared to when stationed forward
He kicked 3. Did you notice if he was midfield, forward or most likely both

Good to see Tunstill keep that form going. He looked good in the intraclub games, and managed to get shots on goal in those games as well. Clearly seems to be something that is part of his game.

Seems to have very quickly become a star in the seconds.
Won't lie in saying this but I really didn't think much of him when he first arrived at our club and was quite disappointed we didn't draft a KPP with that pick instead. Now though, I think Tunstill has the ability to be a decent player for us in the future and might be a serious consideration in the midfield/forward for us at AFL level sooner rather than later (if injuries & COVID impact us), even if he has only played two practice matches for us so far.

He’s got some height but is only quite slender but he certainly doesn’t mind cracking in.
Hard as a cats head, and gets himself involved in everything.
He definitely has some potential, just needs to fix up his disposal a bit, but he will be good value.

Mathieson replacement in two years.

I read somewhere that Tunstill reminded them (can't remember who) of Simon Black. Clean, quick hands, good vision and accuracy. Is this proving to be the case?

If this young fella is anything like the player Blacky was, we have a beauty. I see he has been pretty handy around goal, kicking 5 in 2 games. Lohmann also impressing in areas. Got a feeling already that we have nailed another draft with Wilmot, Lohmann and Tunstill.

If H Smith and Lane start taking leaps fwd. The potential of Carter Michael. Then Ashcroft and Fletcher, plus a kpp I hope next year and the evolution and success of the Lions should continue for many years.

This will be a thread that I will be closely watching this year. It's hard to get regular info on the ressies elsewhere. I will be very keen to read the opinions and analysis of those that are regular 2nds watchers. Great thanks in advance.

One more question.
Are players we have signed as vfl players only, eg Wylie Buzza, now eligible to play in the firsts as covid replacements?

OK 2 questions.
Are the players we have signed as vfl only, eg Wylie Buzza again, better than the covid replacements we are likely to get from the 2 Vic clubs the Afl has allocated us.

Last question I promise.
Other than Wylie Buzza who else have we signed as vfl players and what are their roles or positions?

We submit a list of 20 players from various sources, including our VFL team and the two Vic clubs. Most likely guys like Buzza would be on there, as will probably some of the academy kids passed over in the draft last year.

Not sure who else we've signed.

Thank you, very informative. Good to see we've stuck with players previously attached to the club. Also good to see all but 1, I think, are queenslanders. Very encouraging for Qld footy. Be interesting to see if any develop in the future to earn a spot on the list propper. So glad Bruce Reville is there, from the very limited vision I've seen of the 2nds, he looks an exciting player. I've seen the names Triffett, Bowes and Abberley mentioned before, occasionally get some wraps for performances I think. The others are somewhat of an unknown quantity to me.

Knowing our AFL systems and style of play (which I understand is mirrored in our VFL team) would also be huge bonus compared to even a better skilled player who has been learning the Port Melbourne style all year

Honestly, things will have to have gone horribly bad in our country, for teams to have to dip that far in to the player top up pool.

From my limited reading of the top rules, teams can’t call up players if the team has an extensive injury list. It has to be because covid has impacted the list availability.

If covid is impacting lists that extensively, we’re likely seeing huge community infection numbers again, due to a new strain or sub-strain.

I thought I heard you only need 1 player out with Health and Safety Protocols to be able to use the top ups.
So it is certainly possible if clubs have extensive injury lists and one or 2 with Covid, players from the top up lists will be used.

You need to have fewer than 28 fit players. Injury lists are a force multiplier here - you need COVID cases to be able to use the top ups (it can't just be truly horrific injury luck), but available players only includes those not otherwise injured.

If that number falls below 28 available players, then the club will be able to pick the player to feature in an AFL game but the clubs will need to prioritise the selection of AFL-listed players where possible. Only if the number of available players is impacted by COVID protocols – and not through regular injury and fitness issues – will a top-up player be eligible to play.

With COVID A few of the boys live together as well. So 2-3 at once :(
I do wonder if they go the way of the health system. My 2 sons had it I had to isolate.
Although my wife just had to do a negative RAT everyday before work as a nurse

That’s incorrect from what I read. Teams would have to have lost certain amount of players to Covid, similar to the AFLW rules.

Edit: what dlanod posted.

There were a lot of players who had covid over the christmas break so for the time being I think we'll be ok
